  1. I am after a short 10m to 15m length of 50mm rope of a conventional three strand construction with relatively stretchy quality something like Nylon to act a little like KERR, I.e. to alivate shock loading that you would get from wire or HMPE etc when towing something. Any clues?
  2. Did you cook the engine so it sized because it was running a chipper and no one was in the cab, or did it just go all of a sudden with clouds of steam and was turned off without it getting to hot, or is it just unsung water slowly? Just because the head gasket has gone or the head is cracked doesn’t meant the rest of the engine isn’t ok! The OM352 & om366 are very popular engines (the latter more so now) & you can puck up used MB 814/817/914/917/1314/1317 with OM366 in of eBay for <£1500 or if you need a OM352 you can get them out of the old 1017 or 1617 trucks for less cash, however a reputable truck engine reconditioner will be well versed with both OM352 & 366.
  3. vegetable oil (SVO) is subject to the full amount of duty and is not included in the 2500L per year. Vegetable oil that has undergone transesterification to split the triglycerides (fatty acid chains) from the bigger main glycerol molecule of the Vegetable oil, as a result the triglycerides witch are the bit that burns witch are much smaller than the main molecule from witch they were split so the end product is much less viscous than SVO and on a par with normal diesel, as a result it is not so affected by cold and conforms to the same specification as diesel, thus can replace it so is called bio-diesel as it’s a direct replacement and as such the 1st 2500L per year are duty free.
  4. Duel wheels are a waste of time off road, this is proven beyond all doubt if you use logic, ALL off-road 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 trucks witch have a high off-road bias ALL use single wide tyres rather than duels, this is because if you use duels and the wheels sink in the ground the inner pair of wheels generate extra resistance as they have to form there own rut rather than following in the rut made by the leading axel/s, thus a truck with duels has more than twice the resistance to moving threw wheel ruts than a truck with wide single tyres. Also on ridged duel wheel trucks because the front axel uses the same tyres as the rear but with a moderately higher proportional loading it is normally the front axle that sinks. The width of tyre depends on the ground beneath the surface, if it is bottomless bog then a wide tyre is best, if it is a layer of mud with hard ground 4” beneath then narrower tyres that will cut threw is best.
  5. err they do, if in a rock quarry tracked vehicles will use narrow tracks, if in normal mixed ground they will use standard tracks or if on soft ground they will use a wide Undercarriage with LPG tracks (the latter wide Undercarriage can normally take the other 3 or 4 track shoe widths)
  6. hear is one i made with MS movie maker & Windows Media Encoder 9 about 3 years ago [ame] [/ame] hear is one with sony vegas witch i have only had a few weeks, its just made of still images overlayed with a 3d logo and other bits i made with my 3d program http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/toddysspace/crag_vid.wmv and a duff one as a test of 3d + adding sound http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/toddysspace/crag_logo_oops.wmv i find vegas much more easy than MS movie maker + Windows Media Encoder 9
  7. I use to have long hair witch was half way down my back in length, I then started a high stress job in 2003 working 156h a week for 9 months and developed psoriasis as a result on my scalp so I shaved it all off. As for working, it never use to get in the way.
  8. In some countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Zimbabwe and New Zealand, the April 1 tradition requires jokes to be played before midday: if somebody pulls an April Fools' Trick after midday, then the person pulling the trick is actually considered the fool. The following rhyme may be chanted: April Fool's has come and gone. Who's the fool that carried on?
  9. For £3.5k per quarter I rent out a workshop that is 14m wide x 18m long with 240v & 414v power + water, WC & a 4.5m high roller shutter door witch is wide enough to get 3 trucks threw at once complete with a full length pit, also side office in the building + an external office 40m away in a small office block & 75m x 15m + 10m x 15m parking area’s for truck “operating centres” So it strikes me that £700 per quarter for a 10m X 7m barn with 1 open side is far to high. It maybe the farmer is having to factor in the “change of use” factor with a planning & rating change with the council as well as loss of part of the SFP?
  10. Mm the timberjack doesn’t look like its changed much since I see one in 91 If you didn’t know some of the largest land machines in the world “walk” rather than have wheels/tracks and that has been the case since the early 60’s, though they don’t walk like that dose. The Ace of Spades (P&H 757 electric dragline) (note the little man!)
  11. HMPE (High Modulus Polyethylene) comes under many trade names like "Plasma" "Dyneema" "Spectra" "amsteel" "eurosteel" & "steelite" but the "no stretch" factor is not good if your falling out of a tree! witch is why its used with winches etc. contra to what is said about "HMPE" it is not as strong as the best wire ropes
  12. go to the folowing Sony vegas link http://sony-158.vo.llnwd.net/dspcdn/archive/vegas/ and download "vegas70b.exe" useing the mirror tab http://dspcdn.sonymediasoftware.com/archive/vegas/vegas70b.exe then go to http://sony-158.vo.llnwd.net/dspcdn/archive/dvdarchitect/ and download "dvdarchitect40a.exe" useing the mirror tab http://dspcdn.sonymediasoftware.com/archive/dvdarchitect/dvdarchitect40a.exe this will give you Sony vegas 7b & dvd architect 4a you then need a program to unlock them e.g. like http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/toddysspace/SV_DVDa_keygen.exe (copy & paste) Register with serial/activation code generated with the keygen (you need to go through "..From Another Computer" activation method. the SV_DVDa_keygen.exe dose other programs as well
  13. Why not “Girls name” Arb Angels I.e. “Anna’s Arb Angels” witch would emphasise the feminine aspect more I must say as a groundy I would have no objection to working under a woman. (For 3 weeks per month)
  14. well i have been running Unimog’s since ~1991 & have also been running 4x4 & 6x6 trucks as AMV's in the past so have had to deal with the DVLA & VI (VOSA as is now) in order to register the 4x4 & 6x6 as AMV's (the DVLA don’t like this) and I have to know the law somewhat in order to get away with things because I can quote the law to Mr plod if he stops me as he easily gets confused if he is looking at a truck but is being told it is a tractor, the same is true of Mr VOSA Besides I am one of the kinds of people who retain info.
  15. 1: Unimog’s can be in many VED categories, some can use motorway like trucks, recovery vehicles, mobile cranes, etc, others cannot use motorway like e.g. agricultural motor vehicles etc. NOTE: the use of rebate fuel (RED) is a separate issue witch is related to VED type & USE, trucks & recovery vehicles cannot use red but can use motorways, mobile cranes can use both but carry no load (other than for propulsion or equipment related to being a crane) etc, etc, etc, etc. 2: see reply to 1 above. 3: Thanks , but I don’t just mess with trees!
  16. On normal single carriageway roads the maximum speed for a Unimog is: Unimog’s <7500kg = 50mph Unimog’s >7500kg = 40mph On normal dual carriageway roads the maximum speed for a Unimog is: Unimog’s <7500kg = 60mph Unimog’s >7500kg = 50mph On normal motorways the maximum speed for a Unimog is #: Unimog’s <7500kg = 70mph (if towing a trailer it is 60mph) Unimog’s >7500kg = 60mph # = AMV’s (agricultural motor vehicles) are not allowed to use motorways as they are prohibited vehicles due the concessionary VED (vehicle excise duty) by the DVLA
  17.
  18. I am in the same boat as you, i cashed in my "B" test pass in oct 1988 so effectively got my full UK driving license then, every one who see's my licence think I have C1+E up to at lest 12000kg as there is no category restriction or upper weight limit specified on my license, it also states that i can also pull ANY single axel trailer (10000kg is the maximum weight for a single axle trailer) effectively giving 17.5t GTW witch was at the time in line with EU 7.5t drawbar rigs. I have contacted the DVLA over this and was told that "they" retrospectively in 1998 placed a 107 (I think) category restriction on there computer so should I send my license back to them it would be changed to 8250kg (7500kg + 750kg trailer), however i was also told that if i had sent my license back on or before late 1992 I would have had grandfather rights to 12000kg GTW, however i told them that they never notified my of this change in writing so how was it to know this, so they said if i was to send a letter to them explaining that i never got a letter (that they never sent to any one anyway!) they would remove the retrospectively added category restriction to allow 12000kg GTW under the grandfather rights as a post 1992 appeal, however i said that that was totally unacceptable as my C1+E has no GTW limit other than the manufacture GTW of the 7500kg truck (towing unit is still 7500kg) witch was in line with the rest of the EU at the time & what it clearly states on my paper license and as I also stated to them retrospectively changing my license without notifying me has made me liable for conviction unfairly. Anyway I haven’t got any further to resolving this yet as I am not going to accept the 12000kg GTW limit as I was legally towing more than that up to 1998 when the when the retrospectively added category restriction witch I think is highly illegal.
  19. very true no PPE, but i did have steel toe cap boots on! Light-hearted silliness

  22. mm I use to have a MK with a Atlas 3006 that I use to use for light forwarding long distance, I also use to have an S26 6x6 with an Atlas 3008, still miss the MB 2631 AK (6x6) that replaced the S26, so much better! FYI: did you know that the MoD now has MAN Kat II 4x4 6x6 & 8x8 as part of a £3.3B order (MAN ERF UK)
  23. very true (spoken as a Unimog & Land Rover owner/driver)
