  1. I would have thought that a dead-man interlock in addition to the primary controller would be all that is needed so the machine will not work by accidental/unintentional movement of the primary control, so wouldn’t an enclosed foot-peddle dead-man interlock would be ok?
  2. The simple answer is yes & no, though as Dean says with the latter that the amount of oil about would make it hard to see ware a small leak was when there was a much worse leak in the same vicinity. However most mechanics would place the PTO Gearbox (assuming an MBU/SBU) with the bell housing/input-shaft pointing down on e.g. a wheel to allow any oil to show its self by leaking past the seals from a high head of oil just like any gearbox. what unimog is it? if a MBU/SBU unimog also check that the output flange on the PTO box that the prop-shaft to the main gearbox fixes to has no play in it, if the output flange has play in it then the centre retaining bolt that holds the flange onto the output-shaft will be lose witch in turn will not preload the bearings which helps centre the input shafts that the respective clutches work on. Out of interest is your clutch a single plate 540/1000rpm PTO or twin-plate 540/1000rpm PTO?
  3. auto-cycle would be ware the machine will travel threw one down/up cycle on a button press with no need for positive pressure on e.g. a control down/up lever.
  4. what if they burn your shed down in revenge

  7. Mm its strange that “global warming” also seams to be affecting all the other planets in our solar-system. Perhaps its just that big orange thing is just a little hotter.

  9. i have never run any anti virus protection on my PC’s going back to win95, win98, winME, 2k beta, 2k pro, XP pro, you just have to know what to turn off & how
  10. Well are Mac not using Intel chips in now? When they were running there own chips in there G5’s they were faster able to do more FPOPS, but that was ~5 years ago, now windows & OS# are using near the same hardware. Why not make your self a PC using the best parts with the best proven reputation (best is not the most expensive!) PC’s can be super reliable, mine hasn’t crashed in 3.5 years and sometimes it on for a week at a time working 24h a day. As with anything PC, the motherboard is the backbone, the better the quality of it and its components the more reliable the PC will be.

You invest in a crane it speeds up most jobs somehow. If jobs speed up you charge the “same amount” as without the crane BUT you do it faster, ergo you earn more per hour. You obviously fail to grasp this concept as you say this time is money

  15. Err have you not got to look up to see ware the object is so you blindly don’t run underneath it when it would have missed you were you were standing. I shall remember that one if I am ever driving a crane wile your up a tree, I will keep shouting “Below” “Below” then smile as you keep looking down just as I clonk you on the head with the hook!
  16. Why not put 2 chippers on a Unimog, something like a 8” on the front & a ~16” on the rear Or Alternatively just put a big one on the rear and put a 750kg weight on the front DIN plate, with a u##50 750kg on the front would counter ~1500kg with a CoG <1m behind the lift arms & reduce the load on the rear axel
  17. well, U17## = ~170HP DIN at the flywheel & ~144.5HP to ~153HP at the PTO stub. U21## = ~ 210HP DIN at the flywheel & ~178.5HP to ~189HP at the PTO stub. a U24## = ~ 240HP DIN at the flywheel & ~204HP to ~216HP at the PTO stub.
  18. they are real easy to do, the 4-speeds are about as simple as they come
  19. my old Bedford MK, was demoted to yard work when that was taken, got it in 91 & added a spare old crane I had, cost me £1750 inc VAT in 91 & sold it at the start of last year for ~£960
  20. very good but if "practicing teaching a class" don’t you need to start the saw the correct safest way, thus set an example.
  21. Like a lot of things the words Mobile & Elevated are relative 400HP 70m 8x8 MEWP [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD8vg85iNW8[/ame] I dare say with the above you could work in the back garden of most terraced houses from the road lol
  22. Shrewsbury/Pontesbury its only <3 miles further as the crow fly’s So: How many stumps. ~Diameter. Type of wood. Access type/size/restrictions. Proximity to buildings/glass/public etc. Any known or projected services near them. Will know then the size of grinder needed or that can be used
  23. Tempting as its only 8 miles away, However I don’t have a stump grinder, lol Is there enough room for a modern day mahout & his elephant to pull them out with a bit of hand digging? If you get stuck I do know someone with self propelled up to tractor mounted stump grinders who will know doubt hire one out if I cross his palm’s with gold.
  24. it’s a veiled compliment maybe if it is dangerous you need someone skilled, so in his view an fellow American isn’t skilled enough to safely do a dangerous job so poses to higher risk to there property ?
