  1. I've only ever seen this with folk using natural crotch rigging and/or taking wraps around the trunk...I'd be interested to know why this happened..what make of rope were you using mate?
  2. at the end of the day, your a groundie mate...so £80 - £100 a day here in Essex...or £50 cash if you work for a Mickey Mouse outfit...
  3. GULP!....will check both of mine....this is the trouble with all this fancy gear these days...an old 'in one, back thru two' buckle is safe as houses!
  4. Don't worry everyone...the Scots are canny enough not to vote for a bunch of lefty loons...Scotland will stay in the Union and Great Britain will stay that way be cause of it
  5. we had a lady who returned home as we were pulling away from doing a job for her neighbour. My wagon was over her drive, so she stopped me to complain. I said we were just leaving and explained we had knocked, but she wasn't in, it was only a small job, so we parked up and got it done. She then began to get abusive..so I just smiled and said 'that's not very nice is it. why don't you pop inside and boil your head...and make yourself some stupid soup?'. That ended the conversation as we pulled away
  6. did my city an guilds there in 1996
  7. how much would a brand new 130 with a tipper conversion cost?. Great long term investment...
  8. £90 a cubic metre (loose). All hardwood, delivered onto drive. Local only.
  9. totally agree Kevin...I wouldn't look at a climber without tickets (ie CS 38,39)...its just that a lot of employers expect lads to scoot up the tree and turn out high volume, quality tree surgery after a few days training. I don't have CS40...a local council tree officer asked my why. I just sent him some pictures of recent work and said a 2 day pruning course doesn't wash against 20 years of treework experience and Arb qualification. Recommendation is the best route to take here, I wouldn't ever let an unknown climber loose on one of my jobs, grounding is different....
  10. always makes me laugh when people ask for CS40...I'd just ask for some photos of some recent pruning. I only employ climbers I know, generally those who I have worked with in the past...its difficult getting someone in that you don't know, as lets face it, NPTC units don't have much say when it comes to saying 'I'm a good tree surgeon!'....
  11. up at 0530, at yard at 0700....back in at 1800...usually about an hour a night in the office potting about....work 4 to 5 days a week cutting...1 to 2 days a week pricing etc...sundays are MINE!. When I work out my hourly rate...I think I should have at least 5 McDonalds stars!
  12. good on these lads for mucking in!...they didn't have to do it, they did it because they wanted to. You have to remember they are both Officers in the RAF and Army...that sets them apart from your average Toff right away. With regard to politics and the flooding....I think its reflective on the general state of the UK...Labour and the Conservative party are both responsible for the mess we find ourselves in...if they spent more time leading...and less time undoing what each other have done during the previous term, we would still be a Great country, career politicians - I hate 'em!
  13. I always used Yale bullrope..but the last two lowering ropes have been 16mm Marlow and its just as good...and a shedload cheaper...they do a 18mm one too. I'll buy British from now on Lowering Line and Bull Rope
  14. how much!!!!...cheaper to fly to the States for a long weekend and pick one up over there
  15. I'm liking the look of that!
  16. sounds about right Geoff, thankfully, he didn't check for squirrels!
  17. thanks fella's:thumbup1:...I know rest is the way to cure it...but not is not a restful time!...I've been putting ice on it in the evenings..soldier on...
  18. has anyone ever had any injuries to the tendons in the back of their hands?. I spent a day using big saws in a large Sycamore last week and experienced a burning sensation whilst working. My hand has been swelling and is painful every time I climb or use a saw since then and it creaks when I open my palm!
  19. it is calculated by testing it to destruction...or in my case taking it to a boatyard and letting them stamp it up for me. Of course it hasn't got a CE mark. So I never, ever use it...it just sits in the lock up.
  20. ...and a few more....
  21. a few from around Essex....
  22. ...not sure you're supposed to strap it to your thigh, but what the hell!
  23. punched the MBS and SWL on it...I've been using in for a couple of decades, I change the belt every few years...lets face it...its not going to break
  24. me and Geoff...partners in crime for a day!
  25. ha ha, don't worry about our nasties..worry about THEIR nasties....the only way your going to get a whiff of V-agent, is if its release from a ship sailing up the river Thames....
