  1. I just went for assessment, in 1996 units 20,21and 22, cost £55. At the time i was earning £60 a day as a subie climber. So the costs have risen by a ridicules amount and there were only two of us that day so not a bad assessor to climber ratio.
  2. It was the diversify bit that intrigued me?
  3. Totally agree! when i was pulled on the M6 the man from the minisry went all all over my old mog with his little hammer and could find no fault, they put it on a rolling road and tested the breaks and said that although the back axel was 2ton over the design weight the breaks were better than they needed to be and his exact words were "its got the breaks we'ed expect on an artic" Just because you don't need an MOT there is no excuse for not maintaining any vehicle that goes on the road.
  4. Don't know how you could stroll any where with a bar seven and a half feet long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Road hauage is definded for hire or reward,so long as you are not charging for removal of the arisings and you are taking it back to you're yard it is in the coarse of you're business, you are doing nothing wrong. Why should you pay road duty for the fuel used for operating machinery ? should all chipper run on white? If someone is using a mog to tow a chipper with its own engine they are bending the rules or even breaking them. Its a very British characteristic to find fault with the way someone else operates we all do it. I have spoken to the police and the ministry and the way i operate is within the letter and spirit of the law. My mog has done 7000 hours and 100,000 km saw if it was manly road work i would average 14 kmph which is about 8 or 9 mph,it will do 80 kmph,so not much of my fuel is used on the road.
  6. Why should a unimog that has been on private land all day running a chipper, winch or crane use white just because you need to drive it home at night?
  7. Thankyou wills-mills,often it is not the legislation that is at fault, but jobsworths who like to over apply it.
  8. Daft yes,do charity shops sell waste? I think not, to say the fact that you did not pay for something makes it waste is utter nonsence, some of these officials speak from some where other than their mouths. I have not got one and will not be getting one!
  9. Quality! how i laughed!
  10. Good point! and yes it happened a few weeks back,I managed not ro run over all my gear, just the felling bar,the 200t slid adout 200 yards down the road! not good, but luckily no real damage and a good wakeup call.
  11. Hope it all comes together smoothly, down time and teething problems are the biggest draw back to upgrading you setup. In my experience its always been worth the hassle,a few days down time is soon forgotten when you are saving hours every day and finding you're work easier and less stressful. Good luck with you're new setup and I hope the new year is a good one for you and the rest of us choppyloggers!!!!!!
  12. Here is my old ducker, the blower was very good it meant you could chip into a trailer on the back of the mog by extending discharge pipe, not a bad chipper, but not as good as schliesling, imo.
  13. Nice! could i use that on my palfinger?
  14. Stihl have a 4 stroke blower, you still put oil in the fuel. The bottom end fills with fuel,so the is no oil sump,i think.
  15. can some one please explain to me why i need to renew my NPTC cert which is 11 years old, but not my driving licence which is 20 years old? I know which is the more dangerous activity.
  16. you were the first to mention the 88 in this post.
  17. on a site like this you hope to learn from the experience of others, when people put up post about things they have little experience of it just muddies the water and causes confusion.imo

  19. I have a ms880 and there is normaly only me and one none saw using groundie when you need it, you need it, had my 088 nicked and got a new one staight away.
  20. cant speak about vermeer but they are massive machines need a diet. powerful tho. They do make some small ones.
  21. Very good advice! the purchase price is not every thing and dealers need to make a little more so they can carry the stock of spares, you need them to, I've been going to Dick leigh for 18 years and he has always had the part i needed for my saws in stock.
