  1. we mainly prune for the benefit of the tree owner, very little of the work we do is of help to the tree we cut, believe me if that tree could talk it would not thank you. Where as telhol's post gone?
  2. I have a hiab 071 which is mounted on a trailer behind my mog,it has 7M reach, but i've got a new crane coming in the new year, palfinger Pk10501D 14M reach with radio control, great for big take downs,it will reach just under 60ft staight up.
  3. I eat pizza because im hungry,i have never had a hunger or even a desire to use drugs,so why bother, if you don't have an itch you don't need to cratch, but if you want to good luck, and you're welcome to my share:icon14::wave:
  4. Never have never will! I just don't see the appeal, you're mind is who you are,why mess with it! Life is good i have no need to escape.
  5. i use comprest air from the mog,is this workshop gear? works well!
  6. You might get rid of your mogs once you have read this! NEVER!
  7. new binderberger? you've lost me? i may be being a bit thick, can you help?
  8. could not agree more, burnham beaches and the oaks and windsor the list could go on and they are only ancient due to a good butchering! tree work of all kinds has its places but the home owner should know the effects of the work carried out..felled a hacked sycomore today thats now twice as thick and going for the sky due to a butchering last year as the guy wanted more light didnt realise the effect of a good 40%+reduction and should of been told maybe a thin and raise would not of caused such regrowth and he wanted to keep the tree but after the butchery there was no way it could be kept if he wanted light but i think people just have an idea that thats the thing to do and it can be damn hard to change some peoples minds... I agree you must tell the customer all the facts, and only if they insist that if you don't do the job they will get some one else to do it ,then i will do it.
  9. some times you don't ,wether to firewood it or weigh it in!
  10. By law a tree should have to be cut using growth points always but it could never be managed who would check every job impossible. don't we have enough legislation,if we carry on the way we are going, you'll need a permit to fart, and remember some of the oldest tree we have were butchered in the past.

    Query

Think it depends on what your burning, you cannot make dark smoke, if a tree is left to rot it will release the same carbon as if burnt, and if you cart it about or chip it you are adding more carbon,i removed a large hawthorn hedged for the council last year and they had no problem with me burning it so long as i took proper precautions regarding h&s and wind direction, had two grab tractors on the job, took all the hassle out the job, sweet!
  12. mine was just like this but council yellow, great little tipper, but do prefer my mog.
  13. I do the same, tell them it may die, will rot and shoot like mad, with weak attachment and will have to be cut again in 2 to 5 years or will become dangerous,if they still want it mutilating i will do it,it their tree.
  14. My Dad has one of these, they have two cylinder kabota engine,he gets 100+mpg, he's a joiner,he has had a reliant ant in the past, and so have i,but much prefer my mog
  15. Oh well my yard should be just fine then!:)
  16. If the price is right they always put a smile on my face,i love the smell of laurel chip, its its like marzipan
  17. Oh well can't claim every job, i should concentrate on getting the jobs i can do!!! This is such a good point, you can sometimes try to hard to have a setup for every job, when you could specialize on the work your best at and have the best gear for that work,i realized a while back that there is a lot more work out there than you think and there no way any of use could do it all, this is important when you quote, its better to set your price and try to stick to it ,within reason,if you quote say £350 for a job and your competitor wins the job for £300,don't be tempted to drop on your next quote,he may then drop to £280 and so on,but if you can stick to what you feel is a fair price, when he's doing the job he may well ask the customer what other prices they had, when he hears you quoted £350 the next time he quotes he may well raise his price to £330 or £340,he want's to beat your price but only by enough to win the job and if you make the quality of your work the best there is people will pay a little more to get that,it works for me, you may not agree:wave:
  18. I think when on the tailer it is only about 4 or 5 inches higher than when on the ground, so not much of a problem, but as you say every thing is a compromise of some sort,it not my trailer or chipper, but when i saw it i thought it was a clever idea and would save time on small jobs,i imagine on larger jobs he will take it of the tailer, and the tailer is so small and light he will be able to easily push it out of the way,he could probable not justifier two chippers only a small co,much like myself.
  19. A guy i know said to me that this industry is like a disease that once you get it your stuck with it for life
  20. depends on hopper size and stop bar position
  21. with you now and agree
  22. If i see it again I'll take a pic,the trailer is very small and when i first saw it i thought it was a tow behind,i think ratchet straps stop it jumping, the best way to describe it is like a bike trailer or towing dolly.
