  1. I think you got your shirt pined up a bit there mate! Thats the problem with letting your misses go out to work, they start to think some of the money is theirs and get all upset when you spend it! I keep mine at home making my tea! (before the attack begins this is tongue in cheek!)
  2. That wood needs some serious management! some of those old bugger need felling! Only kidding! great shots David, thanks for sharing!
  3. I never give day rates to private customers, do you not find that you can get far more done in a day than the "have ago's" that you speak of ? I know that I am cheaper than many of my competitors on the price of many jobs, but also know a make more per day than most.
  4. Good point Bob, but I think that climbing get together's and the like are far better for picking up new techniques, than have to do a mandatory refresher, IMHO. And really trees have not changed in all the years I've been climbing, cars and roads have changed more, but I have not been asked to retake my test.
  5. LOL!!!!!!! As he was a climber they'd be a fair size too!
  6. Fair do's But you did say profit was his only justification for buying kit, I don't think that is true, if you can make the life of your staff easer and thus them happier thats a good thing in my book, but many like yourself would rather imply an ulterior motive. So as an employer you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.
  7. I think is a little simplistic. Yes the "selfish gene" and all that..... But as an employer I also got satisfaction from having employees that felt appreciated and an important part of a team, I am not saying this is totally altruistic, but if is a far cry from being a profit hungry slave driver. Unfortunately I encountered more staff like you, who treated me as if they were doing me a favor by coming in, than staff like Josh who clearly sees it as a two way street. Thats the reason I scaled my business down, as you say firms are not profit share or LOSS SHARE, so the employer is taking risks and has to work very long and very hard at the start of the business. If being a boss was so much better than an employer, we would all be bosses.
  8. Does the drive or wall look new or newish?
  9. Sounds like a nice symbiotic relationship! How it should be, but it ALWAYS takes two to tango. I think the very fact that you started this thread shows you have a great attitude to wards your boss, they can see that and are reciprocating!
  10. Just wash it in warm soapy water and place on a radiator to dry
  11. It is very clear that YOU are an employee!
  12. And then the tutor's wonder why we hold them is such low esteem
  13. few things are worse than sharing a vehicle with someone with B/O or bad breath or even worse both
  14. Employer! duty of care and all that.
  15. My boss is ace!! He gets me all the gear I ask for, pays me as much as he possible can, always understand if I'm late in, only gives me a b****cking if I really deserve it! Being self employed is great!!
  16. Why would I ?? I've been using a saw and climbing on a daily basic for 14 years I'm not likely to forget how to do it am I. If you take a course and only use a saw occasionally I can see the sense in doing a refresher. I passed my NPTC in 1996. I took my driving test in 1988, never had to retake my driving test. I have crashed several, times mostly not my fault. I have never cut myself with a chainsaw.
  17. Careful Dean!, "bundle" doesn't like jokes!
  18. Or cs20,21 and 22 if your old like me.
  19. Yes!!, I've used those cranes, their terrible, they made me look bad, LOL!!!! .
  20. Not a clue, should have asked, he was taking it to a site where a school is being built.
  21. No,no the pic's were not taken on the hill, I did not think of taking any pic's till later, as he was holding up the rush hour traffic. We were only working just up the road from the site he was taking it to, at brew time it was still parked up just down from us, so I nipped down and took the pic's.
  22. Come across this today, it was stuck on a steep hill, the driver did not know the hill and had not got down the gears in time. I've done that a time or two in the mog, but I can stop, select lower box + 4x4 and away I go He could not get traction, so I gave him a tow, he was a little surprised as all up he weighted 64 ton, but thats nowt for a mog
