  1. Totally disagree, IMO, putting the gob in first allows the tree too flex more, putting more tension at the rear of the cut, making a B/C more likely.
  2. How is this deflecting criticism???? Just sounded rude too me.
  3. Who mentioned cash???? So you don't fell trees, thats fine, I do, but I don't really see that that makes me either a "murdering bas***rd" or unprofessional????? What I do feel is unprofessional, as I have said, is too abuse client confidentiality. But what I really don't understand is, if you don't fell trees why are people ringing you for a quote??????
  4. Several others around here have no insurance and fly tip. As a professional I chose not too follow their example. Works for me
  5. Please tell me the last time you cut a tree "for it's own benefit"? Trees have managed for millions of years before we started hacking them. IMO, to think much of our work benefits trees is arrogant in the extreme! Much of the time we are trying to limit the damage to the tree and still keep people happy.
  6. Why am I in the wrong job????????? I kill trees for a living. Maybe your in the wrong job????????
  7. I just call the LA and ask about any TPO at the address. I refuse to go into detail as to my reasons for asking, or go into the town hall and ask to see the map, it is a document that you have a "right" to see. Those who feel that more trees need TPOing, why not start contacting you LA with the addresses of nice trees you feel should be protected. But not you clients without the their consent
  8. I did a thread will a poll a while back, the majority of members (who participated in the poll) said they would carry out topping and lopping, IF the customer would not allow a better option and would only get it done by someone else if they refused. The thread seems to have been removed, not sure why.
  9. VERY, VERY, unprofessional , IMO. You have "privileged information", if the customer had known you were going do that, they would not have told you. IMO, you should advertise that if you feel a tree need saving you will go behind their backs and tell the authority's, that way the customer can decide whether or not they wish too give you the information.
  10. Thats great if your not quoting against anyone else, but if you are and they just put in a day, then they will win the job.
  11. Indeed!!!!!!! Does any one know where I can get some cyanide capsules??
  12. It always makes me smile when people moan about their tax bill, its a % so if you owe say £5K you must have had at least £20K, above your allowances, so wheres the problem????? I have a very good accountant and he costs me £2K per year, he makes sure I only pay what I have too, but if I found I had no tax too pay I would be worried.
  13. I agree!!! I hate pegs!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. "Top" job!!!!!!! Its her tree!! If shes happy and you told her all thats bad about what you've done, whats the problem? I have and will continue to do it.
  15. Some of the old timers used to get two bars, cut the nose off one and the tail off the other and weld the two together.
  16. The ms880 will take a longer bar than 48".
  17. Not yet. They have lots of the old castings and will only start making the new ones once there used up. Why not just buy one any way, those old cap's aren't so bad. :sneaky2:Then I will be one saw nearer to getting one with the new cap's
  18. I suppose if you smoke crack thats what happens. Please tell me no one actually eats fox???????????????
  19. Ed's right!,IMO. All the fictional house price rises allowed borrowing that financed garden remodeling and new housing development. This generated lots of well paying easy work, so loads of new firms sprung up. Now thats gone, only the hard working, skilled, efficient guys will be able to make a decent wage. And if you have loads of borrowed money its gonna be tough.
  20. Great stuff!!!!!!! Gives me hope for my latter years!! You can tell from your Grandfathers body language that he knows exactly what hes doing and has done it all a hundred times before. Do worry about "SOME" who think any technique thats not in the NPTC assessment is not to be used. I think putting the back cut in first, when winching, is a very good idea as he was able to see if the cut started to open or close and thus judge if he had enough pull or too much,. Thanks for sharing!!!! Looking forward to your next post. I would love to have a pint or two with your Granddad, I bet I could learn more from him than any modern "training day".
  21. True!! But we do not live in a disaster area..............well not yet any way
  22. Thanks for taking the time to give us the story behind the vid!! I hope I can still cut as well as that at 72!!
  23. How very dare you!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think he's great!!!!!!
