  1. They clearly thought you were looking for wood!!! Happy birthday mate!!!!!!!!!!! You old bugger!!!!!!!!
  2. I have been running my own tree firm for around 15 years now, a few years ago I grew my business and ran two gangs, not good, I think in this game the best lads tend to start there own firm, and who can blame them. So you can end up with the not so good (this is only my experience and I in no way wish to offend any employees) Any way I came to the conclusion that trying to get staff who would do the job the way I wanted and would not take the piss was near impossible. So what I have been wondering about is setting up a separate less skilled business that would be easy to staff and would give a decent return. My wife does not work and we have always lived on what I bring in, we have a good standard of life, but it would be nice to get something else going to bring in some more income. I have wondered about grass cutting or fire wood. I just wondered if any of you guys had done anything similar and how it had worked out?? Cheers Dave
  3. Totally agree Matty!! I've been there and done that, got sick of calls saying it couldn't be done. Or sending them to do a half day job that took all day If I hit a problem, I very quickly look for and find a solution, I found that unsupervised staff just looked for problems so they did not have to work
  4. Disagree, the gear should make far more than it costs and if you do it right you have the money to fix the gear when needed. I have only one groundie, and a very occasional extra man for the odd day each year. IMHO, Staff = Hassle The right gear = More profit
  5. NO,no,no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They ARE the cure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Less staff more gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. OK, how long did you get?????????
  7. These people need a real good slap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A DITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so dangerous, what about the fact that its a ROAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cars???????? 44ton trucks??????????? Oh they don't matter cars and truck aren't dangerous, its fine to have a 44ton doing 30mph going past kids on the pavement, BUT A STATIONARY DITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!AHHHH! THATS JUST TOOOO SCARY!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:
  8. Well that didn't go well.
  9. Is that only if you don't pay the fine?, which is the same for all fines.
  10. :confused1:WHY:confused1:
  11. I asked them. How long since you did it?
  12. Yes but very expensive, £8K based on their figures, and pedantic, IMO, what business of their is it how I take down inquiries and arrange appointments?? I am interest in joining a trade body, not being part of a franchise!!!
  13. Shame the pic's aren't HD as then you would be able to see the billions of midges!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. The schemes you mention have both failed, IMO, as take up has been so small as to render them impractical, IE, if you wanted 3 quote from AAAC in my area you could not get them. After many years of people asking them for change they have failed to move, so many have built up resentment and distrust of them. Hopefully this new body will talk to real cutters at the coal face not accountant types who's chosen business just happens to be tree work. And the assessments will be of Arb practice, not business practice. Just my thoughts
  15. :confused1:So you think it is their fault??????????????? NOT yours?????????

  19. YES!!!!, but go back and look at the picture again.............they don't really take up much room, now do they???????
  20. I have 4 in the shed, they are crap, IMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Palfinger, its not realy a fast loading crane.
