  2. Indeed And also a real shame that this is another issue where the AA have just rolled over and said "yes what ever you prefer" too the powers that

  6. Reading this thread makes me feel very lucky to live only 45 minuets from Alex Price. There is nothing worse than having 6 ton of steel sat not working!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Not very "handy" for a "handy man".
  8. At that price with the trailer if you don't want it I'll have it!!!!!!!!!! Get it bought!!!!!!!!!!11
  9. I'm 40 and do all the climbing, get in an extra groundie occasionally but never a climber.
  10. Were 9,10,11 not just ground work tickets??? I have 20,21 and 22, which covered some ground work and all the climbing.
  11. :congrats: You are correct!! I have been think the very same for years. We have stepped out side of evolution, even thought it is done for the very best of intentions. We saved the lives of 1000's of "hole in the heart" babies, many of those babies are know having babies and need a great deal of health care though their pregnancy, they are also far more likely to have a "hole in the heart" babies. We help infertile couples to conceive, but they are much more likely to have infertile children. We are in effect breeding a weaker and weaker human race, which will require more and more medical help.
  12. I think its very hard to judge your own ability, its better to ask those who have worked with the person in question how good they think he or she is.
  13. When I was having my first go on a pair of spikes the climber who was letting me have ago started cutting away at the base of the tree (a dead Elm) When I got down there was a fire place sized hole in the side of the hollow stem, he had cut of a large burr off for his dad to turn. It taught me good lesson in just how strong trees are.
  14. Its incredibly hard wearing in the right situation, many cranes use nylon in the king post.
  15. Its official!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are skilled or even supper human!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last night we were out and some boys were trying to get two foot balls out of an Oak, I just nipped up and got them for them. There were shouts of WOW!!! and look its spider man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. I think one of the main points being missed in this debate is natural aptitude. I would argue all the very good climbers I have known will have had an inherent ability, a gift if you prefer. I think all the best people in any field have an inbuilt ability that takes them above and beyond their training.
  17. :confused1:How the "the box" going too help that??????
  18. :confused1:Why vos????????????????????????????????????????????
  19. Yes fiberglass is standard, I bet they burn like hell in a fire!!!
  20. Yes, in fact the later W's had a standard bonnet. I'm sure any bonnet of one smaller chassis mogs would fit, IE 12's,14's,16's. I think the bonnet on the older 1000's is cool though, a bit retro like a Capri
  21. Good job!!!!!!!! I reckon that split looks way worse on the pic's that it really was, we can only see one side. Also its clearly an historic split that has stood for years. Anchoring to another tree is good, but if you do that you must NOT then strop to the knackered one, because if it does fail you will become the jam in a harness sandwich!!!
  22. So I guess you don't bother wasting your time doing them?? What utter rubbish!!! R/A's prevent most accidents. I'm not just talking about written R/A, I mean the ones we have alway done. When you get to site and are looking round, if you see a trip hazard, you move it or if it can't be moved you tell every one on site about. When your up a tree your "assessing risk" every second, "will that go over?"" will that swing in??". On really knackered trees, "have I taken enough off this side?, better take some off over there" To consider accidents as inevitable is ridiculous, but we must be prepared in case they do happen. With the right training and the shirt off you back you can keep some one alive till the pro's arrive. If a big yellow box will make you feel better, great buy one, but please don't try and make me get one.
