  1. Did you agree too do if free or did they not pay???????? I have done big trees cheap, because I want to win them, but never free:001_huh:
  2. Do you drive??? It always amasses me that people think what we do is so dangerous, but will get in their car and do 80mph surrounded by other lumps of steel doing similar speeds. I have been climbing for 16+ years and have never cut my rope above my hitch, I have cut the tail twice.
  3. 69 was the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Its an old turner PTO job nailed onto a digger undercarriage.
  5. I used to do line clearance and always took pride in my work, as did most of the guys I worked with.
  6. Clog makers love it, my dad has flat feet (broke both ankles) he only wheres clogs. He as just had some light weight ones made for cycling, they have beech soles, as the maker had run out of Alder.
  7. Totally agree Tom, if I make the money I do as an unskilled or semi-skilled worker, I'm doing even better than I thought!!!! As far as working for the council goes, I know how much I would want to do my job, if they won't pay it I won't work for them. What others are earning is of no interest to me and what I earn is no one else's business. If the councils can get cutters and climbers for the money they are offering they will not pay more (why should they??) Tube drivers get over £34K, why?? because they could not get enough staff when they paid them less, so they had to up the rate till they could get enough staff to operate. WE are the ones who should set our wage, I will only work for those who will pay me what I ask. Unfortunately our profession is all too popular (you only need to read all the threads on hear from people wanting to get into our job) the more of use there are the less employers will have to pay. I could see a time when grass cutters get more than climbers, because who wants to cut grass?????????
  8. And what about the 30mph minimum on the Mway?? I was told your vehicle had to be capable of 25mph on the flat, but obviously it would be slower on hills.
  9. Are you sure about this?? and where will we find this legislation?? I have followed mobile cranes on the Mway doing well under 30mph.
  10. Your right!!!!!!!!!! Well spotted!!!!
  11. I take your point, but my dad was always working and I don't want to do the same. I try to keep evenings and weekends as family time doing things together (not work)
  12. Was yours a 500hp tracked one????????? Thats the sort I was talking about.
  13. They are no longer a requirement
  14. No one is going to pay £12K for that!! You would just get a big mulcher in and get it done for under £2k.
  15. I'm on IE and have had no problems at all for the last week or more.
  16. Is that what you will tell the guy in the wig??
  17. Just get a copy of their cert, then you will have the renewal date
  18. Calm down Stevie I feel sure no one is trying to say you are skilled.
  19. I have noticed of late that more and more people are slipping back into the use of expletive's (swear word) with missing letter or *** inserted. Steve has asked us all on many occasions not to do this. If new members see this they think its acceptable and it becomes more and more wide spread. Steve has created a great site here and out of respect for him we should abide by the site rules.
  20. :scared1:So you will do a 4ft stump for £48!!!!! Wish you were nearer me, I would sub all my stumps to you!! I want £2.50 per inch minimum!!!
  21. I think you'll find it is!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. I am a one man band, I have a labourer who works for me. I think many are under valuing the good will a small Co can have. I have had the same mobil and land line numbers for over 12 years and I would not sell them for £20K I get calls for all manner of people who have been given my number by a previous customer. I know your client has not been going long, but every satisfied customer can lead to any number of referrals.
  23. This is another tragedy. We all try to find some reason the accident happened and apportion blame, it a way of copping with the fear of the risks we face. If we can say the person concerned acted in a foolish manner we can convince our selves it wont happen to us, as we would never do that. Its the same when we hear about kids that carry out crimes, we look to see where the parents went wrong, so we can reassure our selves that our kids wont do the same as we are good parents. (well I do)
