  1. I think in honesty in the past there were very few if any "arborists", they were nearer to foresters.
  2. Indeed I do. But as Mark points out, I never kid my self that trees need me, I try to give my customers what they want, whilst doing as little damage to the tree as I can. If the tree could decide, 99.9% of all our work would not be done.
  3. True, but if people chose to ignore the law (by being on the rail line in the first place) in order to take from hard working people to make their lazy lives better, then they deserve the consequences of ignoring the law.
  4. As far as I know they were not in a tunnel and were hit from behind. I too felt no sympathy at all for these leeches on society.
  5. LOL!! You ain't seen my hand writing!!! Thanks for your reply Paul and on a weekend too!!!

My whole hand gets pins and needles and some times goes totally numb.

I get that some times, but only if I lay on my arms with them bent up, so I squash my bicep and cut off the circulation to my hands.
  8. I feel sure you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I would go AAA to get more LA work not really for private work. If it is a requirement then I may get something made up, that I just right the price in and sign. If I had to do a detailed quote for every job, I'd forget going AAA. I hate paper work, I dropped off some invoices today dated 12;12;09 lol!!!! I have given verbal quotes of £10k to the LA and never had any bother.
  10. I agree with hama, dormant buds are triggered by light.
  11. They only way the tree can feed is through photosynthesis, mostly through its leaves, so it has to put on more or die.
  12. Who suggested not making it clear to the customer what the consequences would be??????????????? Maintaining a pollard is no different to maintaining a hedge, I have often told customers that if they insist on a major reduction they are creating a hedge on a stick, that will need to be maintained My applause signify I agree with the very valid point made by Josh:thumbup:
  13. I would be happy to take the risk, if I became an AAAC and a customer lied to the AA, saying I did not stick to my quote I would sooner let the punter pay me what they want. Going of previous experience it's very unlikely to happen and if it did it would cost me less in real terms to let that punter shaft me than waste my time on every job.
  14. Paul do AAAC's need to give a written quote for every job?? I give almost no written quotes, I give them a price there and then, if they agree I shake their hand and thats the deal done, in 15+ years of trading I can think of only one case where a customer has tried to say I quoted less than I had. I 50 years time I'll most likely be dead, I'd hate to think I wasted any of my precious time on things that ain't really needed, just because some one else thinks something bad may happen if I don't. Plus it stops those "we'll beat any written quote" muppets.

I've had problems in the past (tend to change mine ever year), but the last 2 I have had have been fine, no problems at all. The duff ones I had in the past got sorted under warranty, my dealer fitted new old model carbs to them.
  16. I have the Stihl long reach cutters with the adjustable head, but I now only use them very occasionally for the little bits at the end of the job, because I find the vibration levels on them are terrible and prefer to use my HS85's from steps.
