  1. That makes me and my crane feel all inferior.
  2. Many thanks for taking the time to come on here Paul. Could you please advice me, I have NPTC units 20,21, and 20. Which are dated 1996. If I wanted to became a AAAC what would you require me to do in order to show competence?
  3. Great stuff Stevie!!! This is like a video blog, a week in the life of............ As mozza says we can't really see the cutting but just from the sound you can tell its a pro with a razor sharp saw. Loving it mate cheers!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Often the public don't realise the AA is a business (the fact that its a charity does not help this) and the way the AA put it make assessment sound like a simple cheep process that any Co capable of passing would do, when in reality its not.
  5. Nick (Nailer) has a link to his website under his posts, so he ain't hiding (unlike me )
  6. Autotrader is not a charity, and the selling of your car using autotrader is not being pushed by LA's.
  7. Which I have. I do work for LA's and utility Co's the date of my cert has come up when tendering, I have always put forward the argument that I have set out in my earlier posts and they have always agreed that what I say makes sense. And they have always been more than happy with the standard and safety of our work. Maybe a time will come when commercial pressures make me have a rethink, but I am still waiting for some one to explain to me why we are a special case who have to keep proving our competence.
  8. This is one of the things about the AA that really get up my nose!! The AA always talk as though any one can just ring the AA and say "please and watch us work for a day and see if we are up too the mark", this is so far from the truth, becoming AAAC is a commercial decision and require a large investment of hard earned cash. You are trying put pressure on none AAAC to come on board for the wrong reasons.
  9. The most dangerous thing I do most days is drive to site. I took my driving test 23 years ago, at the time there was no the theory test or separate test for trailers and 7.5 tonners. Since then the test has changed to include all of these, but the is no suggestion that those who took the old test stould now take the new one or that their license is in any way inferior. My farther served his time as a joiner 50 years ago, he is a better joiner know than ever, because of experience, there would never be any suggestion that he should retrain and it would be insulting to suggest he should. Why are we any different from any other trade, why do we have to continue to line the pockets of the training providers. I honestly think the reason we are being pushed to retrain and there is an endless supply of new tickets to take is that we are a small industry and the training providers want us all on a carousel going round every 5years keeping them in a living.
  10. The day I start to measure my professionalism with bits of paper is the day I quit.
  11. Why do they never do this with drink drivers or speeders????
  12. I remember it well mate
  13. I get bored of hearing this "your insurance won't payout" tosh. Please give me ONE example of this happening. I was rigging before 41 even existed, so how was I insured then??
  14. Sounds like a crap day, but to be honest if thats the worst day you have ever had you have led a charmed life sir!!!
  15. Buy cheap buy twice!! And have all the frustration of trying to make a pile of rubbish work!!
  16. So the CC are doing the right thing.
  17. CC are spending taxpayers money and have a duty to get best value. Just because a firm does not chose to go AAAC does not mean there work is of a lower standard.
  18. Looks like I don't need any certs, as I have been useing a saw since before 1998 http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg317.pdf
  19. But that will be law mate, not a recommendation or guide line
  20. Yes the equipment has changed (a little) BUT for the better, so I would argue that if you were safe with the old more dangerous equipment you should be even safer with the new safer gear. Did truck drivers have to take a retest when power steering came in??
