  1. I disagree with you and agree with dadio, I hate pegs and never leave any, they are the work of the devil!!!!! What happens if your line raps round a peg below you and you then cut yourself with the saw??? I would sooner have a pulley and whoopee sling sent up than leave a peg.
  2. I've worn one climbing Plane's, it was awful I'm no to worried about myself, but my boy starts with me this year, he's only 16, he could have 60 years of cutting in front of him
  3. Have you tried wearing a mask when climbing?????
  4. For sure, but we don't get to decide how we go and if we worry about it we are wasting the time we do have.
  5. Very much depends on genetics Tim, according to my Fathers doctor, my Dad cut up 1000's of sheets of asbestos on circular saws, in the 60's, he never wore a mask and is now 70 and still working pretty much full time as a joiner. His doctor reckons some people have "sticky" lungs and some don't, those without cough up all the crap. The facts are life kills you, death is just a matter of timing, it will get you in the end, its just a matter of when
  6. I think we'd all take a guess at alcohol poisoning
  7. How much more per week do you think the mog costs over the cost of a 3.5 toner????
  8. Yes, thats how it looks to me.
  9. I can't see a flip line, but having watched it a gain it looks like this main line is hooked over a peg on the back the lump he's felling, as it falls his line moves forward and he goes up.
  10. Oldmilltrees, is your mog on finance??? If so I can see how getting shut will reduce your overheads.
  11. No, you can see that his TIP is further up the tree, I just don't understand why his hitch lets him go with the piece, but it may have been worse if his hitch had held??
  12. Sounds like you have a good arrangement going on there
  13. I find my eyes are often sore (as are my groundies) when removing Ivy, but not my chest.
  14. Depends how much your rent is and how much timber you produce, I get far more for my timber than I pay rent for my yard.
  15. Because its very labour intensive and does not pay as well as tree work. Also retail is often a nightmare, Joe public can be a real pain, IME. I wholesale mine to guys for whom fire wood is their main business, they are far better set up and prepared to do firewood to the public, IMO
  16. That second vid is horrendous!!! Why did he go with the piece?? did his hitch slip?? was that a good or bad thing?????
  17. I would go up the tree its resting in and dismantle the hung up piece until it falls free.
  18. You could not really have chosen a worse time to try and and enter the industry, saturated really is the truth. Many old established firm are shedding staff and some are even closing down. Just last night I was talking to a friend of one of my local competitors, he was telling me that they has had to diversify into landscaping and selling coal (they already do fencing) After the boom there are more firms than ever before and there is very little work. I'm keeping going, but know that much of my work is won on price alone, which is far from ideal.
