  1. IME, its all down to complains, the EA and Environmental Health tend to be reactive, rather than proactive, if no one complains your fine, but if they do you are screwed.
  2. I think its every 12 weeks, if you only haul your own stuff.
  3. But he's not burning stuff from his own land.
  4. Same here, I had no ideas HC could not grow in woodlands??? Who knew???????? Some one needs to tell the HC round here
  5. Brilliant!!!!!!!!! There is one branch stub visible in the pics
  6. Its wood, get it cut and dried, it will burn just fine
  7. I always intended going to Fred's yard with the timber trailer full of fire wood for his steam engine, but his untimely death scuppered that. Defiantly some where I would love to visit.
  8. No data needed, its physics
  9. Pointless, chipping increases Co2 production, only if the chip is used for fuel, saving the burning of other fuel can there be any positive to chipping.
  10. Burning green waste releases no more Co2 than letting it rot.
  11. It is illegal to burn green waste on any site other than where it was cut.
  12. Threads like this are so very sad:thumbdown: I often do jobs myself, rather than get a professional in that trade in. I may not do it in the most efficient manner, I just find a way that works for me. Why are some so stuck up their own rectums that they feel no one else is entitled to do things differently?? As for the HSE comment, can't say I'm surprised given the poster concerned, but surely its better to concentrate on your own life rather than worry about what others are doing Live and live would be my advice.
  13. That "dappled paint" is really dear too!!! nearly as much as the Tartan!!!
  14. When people have been using an 020 for 15+years, with no damage issues, its not unreasonable, IMO, to expect the 540 to be able to be used in the same manner without it disintegrating. My 540 was under 6 months old, the rear AV mount snapped and the saw tore in half The fuel tank was already leaking from a split joint and the top handle was cracking at the thin point where the switch and triggers are. IMO, they are simply not fit for purpose.
  15. Just reads very strange, to me. The chipper broke, so there is a mountain of brash from the huge amount of trees that you had reduced?? but you continued cutting, by moving onto the Plane?? Why would you start such a job two days before an op that would put you out of action for 2 months?? Why spike a "beautiful London Plane"?? or at least why admit it on an open forum?? How does the customer feel about all this?? Fair enough if its genuine, no offence intended But not the way I would do things
  16. Is this a joke??????????:confused1:
  17. Trees within the CA carry the same protection as TPO'd trees, so work carried out without notification (not application) could lead to a very hefty fine.
  18. I think your getting your leg pulled Even if there was a "licence" do you think it would make an ounce of difference??? All additional legislation does is drive up the costs for the legitimate operator, making the less scrupulous operators prices even more attractive.
  19. This price is set by the foresters, as they bid for the standing timber. People complain about low pay in Arb and forestry, but we are the ones who set the rates.
  20. Sprocket size also affects chain length.
  21. Chains don't actually stretch, the bottom of the plates wear, as does the bar and sprocket, this causes the chain to become slack, giving the appearance that the chain has stretched, but it hasn't. So I don't see how any chain could be "pre-stretched", I would certainly not want my new chain to be pre-worn. Chains do expand when when hot, which makes them slack, hot chains should not be adjusted up, as when they cool they will shrink again and could bend the crank shaft or split the bar nose.
  22. Agree to a point. IME the 540 is massively overrated and if used in what I consider to be a normal commercial manner it will disintegrate I will never buy another. My 201 is a most excellent saw!!! its had the upgrade kit fitted, I really like it, bags of poke, picks up perfectly, pretty tough, with the exception of the rear top handle mount, which do break if bashed, but at least the saw is still usable after it goes and its a cheap, easy fix. I had a not to old 200 fettled by one of the best saw guys in the country, it runs well, but I prefer my 201
