  1. Its strange, I very seldom look forward to work, but I often find I enjoy it once I'm actually working. My family is far more important than work and the reason I work as hard as I do. Work for me is a means to an end, not an end in itself.
  2. Thats not a normal Aga. Aga's have no door on the firebox.
  3. My Aga has no firebricks, its all cast iron, it does have a riddler. Do you drop the logs in through the top
  4. I can't see how an Aga could be converted to wood. We have a solid fuel one, we burn anthracite. Its loaded once daily through a hole in the hot plate, the hole is only about 4" in diameter and the fire box is very small. The flue gases pass through a hole smaller than an old 50p piece, lighting it with kindling smokes the place out. Rayburns can be converted.
  5. A credit card or overdraft facility is acceptable I believe.
  6. I still have my old paper licence, never got a photo one. Pretty sure it allows 12t train.
  7. I will never understand these I've watched plenty of mupets banging their spikes in and cringed for the poor knees, but I have only ever place my gaffs and let my body weight push them in.
  8. Yes, but with the VAT man you are guilty until YOU prove your innocence.
  9. While this is true, the revenue will take an interest in you if you hover just below the threshold for a while.
  10. Some people really are morons:thumbdown:
  11. Lower than what? If someone is charging a good high rate before going VAT registered then the 20% hike is going to be a tough sell, if its not maybe they were too cheap before. I hear what people say about charging plenty and looking for the customers who will pay for high quality work, but there must be a ceiling price thats very hard to exceed, otherwise we would all just quadruple our rates and only work one day a week.
  12. Whats the big claim? and where is it?? All I saw was that the aperture is bigger than some others in the class.
  13. Because a smaller lighter chipper will do the same job, may take a little longer with a little more snedding, but the job is still done. A 3.5 tone trailer is what it is.
  14. Because if the VAT man decides they are not separate business, with separate equipment, they will go back 6 years, calculate the VAT due and bill you, they may well also charge you interest and penalties.
  15. The answer to the problem is to get a yard, thats why most people have a yard.
  16. Do you buy "duty free" Ian?? Why has everyone got all arsey about avoiding tax? anyone with half a brain will endeavour to reduce the amount of tax they pay. Tax avoidance if perfectly legal, tax evasion however is a criminal offence.
  17. I answer all calls, I always have, if I don't want to listen to or talk to the caller I simply hang up. My wife has a thing about not answering "no caller id" calls, one day her phone was ringing, she would not answer it, I answered it and it was the hospital with very important information about our daughter.
  18. It can be done perfectly legally, you just need to keep the two completely separate. I did it for years, my accountants are very good and would not have entertained it if it was dodgy.
