  2. While this is true, the revenue will take an interest in you if you hover just below the threshold for a while.
  3. Excellent post!!!
  4. Some people really are morons:thumbdown:
  5. Lower than what? If someone is charging a good high rate before going VAT registered then the 20% hike is going to be a tough sell, if its not maybe they were too cheap before. I hear what people say about charging plenty and looking for the customers who will pay for high quality work, but there must be a ceiling price thats very hard to exceed, otherwise we would all just quadruple our rates and only work one day a week.
  6. Whats the big claim? and where is it?? All I saw was that the aperture is bigger than some others in the class.
  7. Because a smaller lighter chipper will do the same job, may take a little longer with a little more snedding, but the job is still done. A 3.5 tone trailer is what it is.
  8. WOW!!!!
  9. Because if the VAT man decides they are not separate business, with separate equipment, they will go back 6 years, calculate the VAT due and bill you, they may well also charge you interest and penalties.
  10. The answer to the problem is to get a yard, thats why most people have a yard.
  11. Yes..
  12. Do you buy "duty free" Ian?? Why has everyone got all arsey about avoiding tax? anyone with half a brain will endeavour to reduce the amount of tax they pay. Tax avoidance if perfectly legal, tax evasion however is a criminal offence.
  13. I answer all calls, I always have, if I don't want to listen to or talk to the caller I simply hang up. My wife has a thing about not answering "no caller id" calls, one day her phone was ringing, she would not answer it, I answered it and it was the hospital with very important information about our daughter.
  14. It can be done perfectly legally, you just need to keep the two completely separate. I did it for years, my accountants are very good and would not have entertained it if it was dodgy.
  15. Caused by the sap bleeding out. I pollarded a Birch just before bud burst a few years back, it bleed like hell, looked a right mess, turned assorts of colours, I was sure it was going to die, but it came back lovely, its right by a main road, so I pass it often, it looks great now
  16. Thats bloody harsh IMO
  17. This is fine, BUT you need separate equipment for each business. I used to do this, but amalgamated the two in the end.
  18. So why is the flat rate scheme 11%, why would the VAT man cut such a sweet deal?? I only save around £800 per year on the FRS, so not miles off actual cost.
  19. Thats outrageous!!!!!! How much was the bill and what for???
  20. There will be very few tree firms (not subies) making more than 50% profit, IMO. I'm on the flat rate scheme and pay 11%, some how I can't see the HMCE loosing out.
  21. You need to take into account the VAT you will now be reclaiming, this will reduces your costs, this may well mean you only actually need to charge an extra 10 or 11%.
  22. Very few farmers will have anything set up to pull this. Great trailer, really sorry to hear its been stolen, I'll keep my eye's open.
  23. Probably deleted by the mods.
  24. Flicked back to the page, I had viewed it earlier.
  25. This one?? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/trees-law/98726-kingston-tree-conservation-areas-tpos.html Someone trying to promote their website I guess, rather "coals to Newcastle" on here through.
