  1. Keep an eye on Jas P Wilsons. They quite often have second hand trailers and cranes come up.
  2. Stay away i think it would break quite easily. There are some PTO kwick chips on Earborist going for 2500-3000 quid at the moment. Apart from being a pig to clogg they are really good. We use one behind a Massy 390 on brash i'm yet to clog it, however it is a slightly more frequent occurance doing saw mill offcuts.
  3. I agree. I have a 5-50 first aid kit in the truck and there are normally 2 of us! I've also added a couple of packs of Celox some blood stopper dressings, twizors, eye wash and a good pair of scissors as well. There is also a blanket and some cling film (for penertrating chest wounds) in the truck as well. I'm luck as the guy i work with at the weekends at least use to be a paramedic. I'm going to do one of these courses when i have the funds looks very good. Got some good press in Shooting Times. Its worked out on how far an Ambulance is away. 7MST - 7 Medical Support Team First Aid in the field | Shooting times
  4. Seeing this i'm considering doing it now. I like their twist on the corrispondance way of doing it. I'm going to e mail for details.
  5. Ah Wiki'd that and looked it up in my Collins book. I've no idea where you'd find one. As for a Golden Catalpa there might be one in Highfield Park although it's more likely a Indian Bean Tree. I'll try and check tomorrow.
  6. I've never hurd of one golden oak that is. Some kind of Indian Bean Tree?
  7. I've used the STIHL Oregon and Husky ones. They all do the job well enough. The advantage of the Oregon and STIHL ones is that they are clear and you can see how much fuel and oil is in the can. Also those STIHL fuel spouts last longer than the Husky eqivenlets. Although the auto cut off oil ones just seem to break on Husky Saws i've broken two on trying to fill the 346 gave up with them after that. Saying all of that i have Husky one and it does just fine. It's on it's 4 fuel spout but it does look the smartest of the lot. If i got another it would be a husky one.
  8. I like that nice little skidder. I'd put some kind of mesh screen over the rear window just incase the winch line snaps.
  9. The pico chain on the MS180 will make things a pain. I know as i did my test with a MS200. Doing a split level was a pain as i had to knock a hilift wedge in rather than using a felling bar. It's always good to bring a few spare chains with you as it's better to get more hands on felling time on the course than sharpening chains. You can do that in the evenings.
  10. I have one. I'm about 40 miles away not exactly near but close.
  11. That's my good deed for the day.
  12. Maybe contact these guys, they might be helpful. Restoring Ancient Woodland in Dartmoor National Park
  13. A mate of mine has one and loves it. I'd like one but i think a Henchman Histep would be a better investment.
  14. cool. I want to drive a harvester.
  15. Sorry Man. Dam theiving scum.
  16. Always a handy thing to have around. I use them a lot on footpath work and the ocasional garden clearance job. The clearing saw is useful too that can tackle some trees on clearance jobs. Done 6" stems with a clearing saw. I have a Husky 345Rx fantastic bit of kit the Fx version has a short shaft and a thumb throttle. Used the Stihl Fs450 that is also brilliant.
  17. shocking just shocking.
  18. I was thinking of getting a Jet Hoist one from Buxtons but i think i'll get one of these, much cheaper. Can you get the shear pins too?
  19. When i went to my interview for my forestry job i wore a suit. As did the only other guy i saw.
  20. Not tried it but i'd like to. I remember reading in EssentialArb that Decorum Council, which is just down the road from me use it in all their machinery. Not just for the health but it saved them a fortune in repairs due to poor fuel mixes and carb settings.
  21. Our Kwick Chip has a clevis hitch on the frame. How you'd put a trailer on it and keep it level when you pick the chipper up i'll never know.
  22. I thought you could tow 2 trailers behind a tractor.
  23. I'm sure it most likely is. It doesn't look very good IMO saying that i've never done it anyother way. I mean if you've spent 600 odd quid on your chapter 8 kit whats another hundred for stop go boards. Saying that we've had cars drive through our traffic lights while felling across a road as they were red for a long time so there fore broken.
  24. Larch is lovely stuff to mill. Milled a whole load last year for a roof had a man come in and grade the whole lot, i think it was 99% C24 SS grade and 1% C24 GS. Nearly 200 bits in all from 8x6 to 15x6. That was all Hybrid stuff. As long as you keep it off the ground it doesn't rot and unlike pines it doesn't stain. There is a couple of ads in the back of the Forestry Journal for people wanting Larch.
  25. Mine did the same thing a couple of times. I sent it to the shop to be repaired in the end i think. It might of been the throttle cable in the end. It was a great bit of kit but it was replaced by the bigger and better 345rx.
