  1. 346xp with an 8pin sprocket in it! very fast saw
  2. 18" is a bit on the big side for most bed processor as the common ones are a fair bit smaller that, if its only the odd 18"stem then you may get away with doing them by hand for the first log or two, but if its mostly 18" you will probably struggle, unless its a big machine, also not sure are you considering loading the processor with a winch?
  3. oh dear, i can see your cheque book twitching all ready you must be due a machinery purchase soon ?
  4. surely if its thorny, in my experince of hedgelaying and clearing scrub, you would want the biggest opening chipper you can get, as its horrifically bushy and springy, the though of trying to crane feed a chipper the size of a TW150 or 190 sounds like and awful plan. They would be quicker burning it all than trying to chip it! is there a problem with site access for a larger machine? if it is, a better solution maybe a small forwarding set up out to where a tub grinder or the like can get set up and deal with there if the extraction route isnt to long.
  5. the sort of info thats on the FC example ones on its website, or read Ben Laws book on woodland management as that covers most factors
  6. machine mart or ebay, dickies winter overalls about £35-40 a pair they are the same as the John deere ones without the logos but 70quid cheaper!
  7. i assume if your looking seriously at using the bak rak system, that you will be using a redirect at the base of the tree as there is no way i would want to shock load this system in a vertical direction as its only a small pin that holds it on the tow hitch, and is designed for horizontal pulling really, also given the length of most winch cables is this not going to end up putting your 4x4 in the dropzone so if something went wrong your going to risk having your vehicle damaged, unless you use a smaller diameter longer winch cable i dont see that this is a realistic solution, i think a capstan winch would suit your needs better and be more versitile for you, but it depends on if your using a vehicle you can install one on (defender only) or look for a petrol capstan setup.
  8. i have looked into tracks on atv before, but at a minimum of £5.5k for a set of allseasons tracks,(if you can get someone to import you a set!) suddenly duals at £700 per axle look a lot more appealing!
  9. look like they are designed for sand and snow, not sure i would trust that tread to cut into mud well enough not to slip about, also it has no directional pattern to it, so whats to stop it slidding sideways rather than gaining forward traction. why not look at a set of clic duals with kenda bearclaws or executioner tyres if your serious about working on slopes
  10. thats exactly what i thought when i saw the post i would have asked them to slow down, scariest taxis i have used are in spain, they dont even slow for red traffic lights at night
  11. and sip progess on offer
  12. any idea how those husky scarlet blades compare to the oregon ones in terms of lifespan, i know its a bit dependand on the nature of the work, but i seem to be sharpening the oregon one quite regularly even on clean timber, really getting into using a clearing saw, may even have to do the ticket for it!
  13. Just wondered what clearing saw blades people were favouring, I am running an oregon 24teeth pro brushcutter blade (the ones badges as lasotex), but its dulling pretty quickly, and not going to last very long at this rate. what other options are there, is anyone using the oregon maxi blades or know how they compare to my current blades, this is mostly for clearing small regen on wetlands and river banks so most material is 8cm and under. I see stihl do a carbide tipped blade, but i have concerns about being able to sharpen it easily and also if it hits a stone and damages a cutter is it likely to be written off easier cheers Charlie
  14. 346xpg heated handles are in stock! wish i had them on my 372xp, especially when ringing up for long periods of time
  15. sorry to hear that, its a gutting experience to have tools nicked. I hope you get sorted by the insurance company quickly so you dont loose to many days work
  16. Kelly's Heros, Black Hawk Down (editors version, not the one with all the US cock ups taken out), sniper, behind enemy lines, then tropic thunder and the A-team when i want something a bit less serious.

    Husky 575xp

I fitted the full wraps, never needed the hi-capacity air filter even when milling the standard one was fine the big spikes really help when felling stuff and funny angles as you can really dig them in and use them as a really good pivot point, i found the standard spikes next to useless the big ones really do help making it easier

i think if you get the part number of ipls, stihl and husky will supply them I would add that full wraps are a compromise, you cant cut stumps low and do very low felling cuts, tbh i havent put my set on my newer 084, but i use my 372 for lots of felling on river banks and as such am not always able to get in the best position for felling so being able to flip the saw over can be a big help. For everyday use especially woodland felling, i wouldnt have them on, snedding out trunks can be awkward as you cant sit the saw flush to the trunk because of the handles so you push the saw engine out and the tip into the trunk and as such greatly increase the risk of kick backs if you dont have your wits about you.

here are some of my 372, you seem to be lacking some big spikes on the 575
  20. Has Tony had to get his new saw dirty then
  21. thats fantastic! not sure about the last pic though
  22. nice pics, if your doing a lot of the sheet piling dams you can buy a metal weight profiled to fit on top of the piling that makes knocking them in so much easier got to love bog restoration!
  23. my honda atv costs me more than my defender to insure per year atvs are far less fuel efficient on the road agri registered ATV have 25mph speed limit on roads Hondas are not great on road due to the solid rear axle There is a grey area regarding distance restrictions for agri atv use on roads if you get it PLG registered it will need an mot so not worth getting a dog as it needs to be road worthy, but you probably wont be allowed to tow on the road with it under your insurance (especially timber! check your policy allows this as many dont even for agri use!) buy your self a cheap banger it would be far more sensible than an atv for day to day use, and will be cheap insurance to start with, if your only doing a few miles round local woods it may be worth looking at getting a cheap 4x4 converted to limited milage so you can run it on red and cheap insurance but you will be limited to something like 5miles from the farm its registered at.
  24. I love to see a pic of it on the hitch if u have one please. Superwinch Towball Winch Mount: dont have any pics of mine but this is the mounting i use
  25. :thumbup:Cheers Guys
