just out of interest why if your cutting up pallets and felling small trees do you want an 18" bar? if your cutting 18" timber mostly then look for a bigger saw. If you not get a smaller bar, most the stuff i fell is 15"+ diameter but this is more than made up with the speed the saw can pull the smaller bar (13") at. If you order the saw you will get a chain with it so dont worry about that. the 18" bar doesnt balance that nicely on the 346xp IMO as its the top end of bar sizes recommended, 13 -15" are fine

hewitts salvage would be worth a go, specialise is written off ag and plant kit EDIT: now seem to have been bought out by a company called copart. -
and "girly start" I should add the multicut chain is better for dirty timber and whilst i have only used it for a couple of days its miles better than the standard stuff if your cutting timber with and debris in it

It could mean that a chainsaw wielding neighbour has been round and the tree isnt there anymore whilst its in the scheduled ancient monument, this only effects underground work such as footings for buildings, no metal detecting etc on this site. Its a shame as the council did have the tpo's on their online mapping system but they seem to have removed that layer now so you have to contact them. I assume the big sycamore that is maintained by G&T as part of English Heritages part of the site is a TPO as its had cable bracing etc installed when really its damaging the SAM. -
try and buy just a 346xpg powerhead then fit a 13" oregon microlite pro bar, with oregon 95vpx multicut chain, and an 8pin drive sproket I can cut stuff upto 18" inches as fast with this set up as i can with my 372xp

what an awesome bit of riverine habitat they have created with that large woody debris what you should have done was fasten the trunk to the stump and leave the crown of the tree in the river trees in rivers are awesom

somewhere on the keyboard there will probably be a key with a symbol like an upside down mouse on it with an x on it, that should deactivate the touchpad I only know as my 9month old managed to disable mine the other day whilst mashing the buttons

my local dealers i think are about £12 cheaper for that model as they had one in stock i think. so probably no better one you stick shipping on it. PM sent about the 070

so it sounds mostly positive, I have been offered a great deal by the local dealer £25 less than i have found from any internet suppliers just wish they did a smaller bar really as i think it comes with a 14" as standard. right just need to sell some bits to finance a purchase then anyone want to buy a mint Stihl 070

Hi just wondering if anyone on here has run any of the smaller Echo saws, the very lightweight ones. On paper they look good had a look at one today at a dealers, and was impressed with the features on it. Im after something for the jobs where I dont need the power of the 346xp also im finding that the husky seems pretty thirsty. Im thinking something like this would do for some first thinning where its fell to waste type stuff, where it needs brashing down so cant be done with the clearing saw easily (Diameter upto about 6inches). anyway I have been looking at the small model as its 2.4Kg lighter than my 346xpg weighing in at the grand total of 3.1kg any feedback would be appreciated, I know they arent a pro saw but its not going to get that much hammer, and I try to look after my kit well.

Interestingly the second case mentioned against NT from earlier on, it is my understanding time they had been warned about the offending branch and why there was a longer investigation into it. NT arent having a very good time this week. I have been doing some bits with NT and tbh they are so paranoid about this now, I have felled trees that have a single small dead limb in the crown. Today i have taken down a couple of trees that were classed as hazzards despite being completely sound. Its a shame but areas where the public are now known to use have to be managed very carefully, this now extends to desire paths rather than RoW's as well. Its a sorry state we have come to, in my woodland i have told the insurance company that if i want to go for FSC certification I need a % of deadwood to make this criteria so this will be retained and they were fine with this despite me having a permisive path through the wood.

why not try some of the granberg ripping chain, i have just had some from Rob D on here and its a world better than the orgeon stuff

on a de-rail i have just started using a pulp hook and get on alright with it for moving stuff about. Although i now also have a holster for my foot felling lever as well as my tongs and hook and my hook one holds a felling wedge on the front, one of my contract managers asked if i was on comission for advertising for stihl and husky the other day

you will definatly want a ripping chain, i have done 18" with a 372 and it was ok, so i would suggest limiting it to 15" diameter timber really you certainly wouldnt want to be milling 20" planks with that saw as i think it would put to much stress on the saw

If im out working by myself i work on a system that I ring in once an hour even if it means walking to somewhere with signal, if I havent rung in 30mins after the time then a emergancy plan can be put into place (i admit not much use if you have hit yourself with the saw). Or if your on an estate buy some cheap two ways and give one to a keeper etc so you contact someone if you need help

thats a hell of a lot of timber, how many hand cutters do you have at your disposal?? want an extra pair of hands seriously though what about something like a tigercat harvester or there was one that had 4wheels that could be indepedantly leveled (i think loglogic or someone was importing them) so you can sit across the slope level in the machine if the timber wasnt huge. -

there is a used naarva shear head on mascus but i dont think is a processor just has the bunchers on on it. there is also a used vimek 404t3 harvester on there as well with a keto head, in sweden i think got about 700hrs on it from memory, price on application so i can imagine it will be dear.

to identify the tree for monitoring purposes, so when people come back year after year they can ensure they are recording information about the correct tree

ouch looks like £23k new on mascus looks a bit steady but as said that could be the timber its in. But for that kind of money there are two harvesters on ebay you know you want one
