  1. there is a sawmill near Wem, they run their own wagons, cant think of the name at the moment but in the past they had said they would do haulage work. If i can find their business card i will pm you their number
  2. cheers guys, I have used cp stuff in the past and found it not overly comfortable, looks like i should be giving berthoud and hardi a good looking over as well
  3. Hi all, looking to buy a load of knapsack sprayers, and looking for some feedback, ideally want something lightweight for carrying long distances doing spot spraying of invasive weeds so tank capacity isnt that important, balance and comfort are important. Looking to get 5 units so dont want to get something thats uncomfortable. Anyone use the solo range?
  4. definatly a stihl 070 / 090
  5. Do you sell the timber for milling etc? there is a guy up in Barley that does oak timber work, etc i can dig out his contact info if you sell any in the future
  6. cant say its a name i have ever come across, but then again there is a lot of contractors around that neck of the woods
  7. I have done a few cuts with it, and it seems alright seemed sharp enough out the box was taking good chips out the cut with it. It defiantly has its place in the tool box, i wouldnt fit it to a felling saw in the woods but for rough timber and around the yard etc i think it will be handy.
  8. This weekend is DCC's woodland show, I went last year its only small but there are some wood crafts, bushcraft bits, wild cooking, milling nice morning or afternoon out if your at a loose end http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/images/PosterFinalVersion_tcm44-162272.pdf
  9. the netregs page will give you all the details you need but basically clearfells/thinnings if the land owner has a waste exemption for burning the products you want to burn from the EA. If your taking tree waste onto a farm the farmer needs to be registered as a waste collection center and i would be very suprised if you could get the certification for this, and be allowed to burn it! The few farmers round here that take chip are all registered as waste collection centers for taking chip and woody material
  10. crank was ok, bearings piston and cylinder were shot to bits though
  11. ah that would make sense, only one of the fiskars is ok for knocking in wedges and thats the supersplitter (dont know what the new one is called) TBH i dont normally give them that much grief on the back of the head but i can see why it would be a problem.
  12. the fiskars axes are IMHO one of the best out there, mine take a hell of a lot of abuse, and have stood up to it well, buy the dedicated sharpener from them, as it will help no end. I have the older version of the x15 and the splitting axe. I rate them both highly, the small axe is used nearly daily in winter on scrub thinnings, delimbing small trees, hedgelaying and coppice work. I would by another without even thinking about it. Mike im interested as to why you have had bad experiences with the plastic handled fiskars axes, as everyone i know who uses them really rates them?
  13. the gloves are pretty good, and thats from someone who hates wearing gloves at all, not tried the powersharp yet, got some fences to remove next week for hedge laying this winter so should be giving at good work out on the nails and staples
  14. I have just been outside there is a combine one field downwind from here, and about 80acres of straw in the swath, and there were two people lighting chinese lanterns, if it had made it about 150mtrs it would have either been in standing crop or going over straw. I sort of lost it at them, one of my mates had the vets out to shoot one of his cattle last week due to getting wired, these people tonight were telling me that their lanterns were animal safe, yet still had a wire frame. Im fuming,
  15. very good
  16. I had an email last week say it had been posted out, not had it yet though
  17. bet its the side off the crank bearings looks very similar to when my 084 went, with the little bits of metal stuck on the piston like that
  18. if they had a good dose of something like tordon which is used for knotweed control, that would kill them, its a long term persistant herbicide, and is active for 2years, I would as a precaution take the chip to a licensed tip, as if you mix them into a chip pile for compost or mulch and it does still contain some active ingredient you could end up with problems down the line
  19. it will twist the shaft! trust me and that was on a ht75 so less power
  20. deja vu??? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/876-blackthorn-clearing-stihl-fs550-clearing-saw.html
  21. It makes me smile all these threads about cord being to dear when someone advertises some timber. I dont think its going to cause the price to drop! I think you guys that think you will be able to keep buying cord at £30/ton are kidding yourselves, not by the time the timbers been felled. Decent cutters arent cheap, Extraction isnt cheap, diesel is going up a lot, most the nice easy woods have now been thinned and there isnt going to be the ready supply of quick and easy firewood processor sized cord wood about in the surpluses there has been in the past, all the indications are that its going to be in exceptionally short supply after about 2018 as the accelerating rate of firewood production will mean that most blocks will have been thinned by then and there will be a lag before any more is available. All the new planting schemes for hardwoods wont be producing timber for about another 10years at the earliest. I think that if people sit on their cord surplus's untill winter, if we have a cold snap like last year there were guys begging for timber on here! I have heard of several site across the eastern side of the country with hardwood cord making £50+ at Roadside, so for ash that could conceivably be run through a process now and still sold this winter, I would hold out for the £60 if thats whats needed to turn a profit! oh and the fact that everyone thinks firewood is the thing to be in, so have been rushing out buy processors its forcing prices up, demand is rising at an amazing rate, as are the number of people wanting cord. When i was a kid i think there were three local estates doing a bit of firewood locally on wet days as some extra income. Now i know i have at least 7people with processors within 10miles of here!
  22. mine hasnt turned up yet neither has the wifes
  23. I have a 17" bar on my 084 because overkill is underated!
  24. my office is very good, but its the underwriters if you want anything other than a standard off the shelf policy it takes some sorting out
  25. Cheers guys, I didnt have a specific chipper in mind, was just wondering at this moment in time just boucing ideas about on bits of paper really, and if the idea wasnt a goer then would stop looking, I have a big MF2720 which sits on a baler in summer but spends 9months of the year doing nothing and was wondering about getting a bigger chipper on it, as it would spead up hedge restoration and wetland work over winter, and has the potential to hire out as well.
