    Large Poplar

nice vid. noticed you used a letterbox cut on the hinge. good work.
  2. im not sure if it was this one or a tulipefera now. the guy told me that it was from china but there are 2 varieties, one from america and one from asia. there difference is slight from what ive read, only size of leaves. its a nice looking tree. just read that they can get to 200ft tall.
  3. did some work in a garden today that had a 100yr old Liriodendron chinense. it was a beauty, shame i didnt have a camera. only seen two by me, how common are they, have you worked on one? i think this should have been posted in the other part of the forum, can someone move it?

    elm pics

theres still alot of elms in brighton and hove, most of the street trees are elms.
  5. the womens world record footlock is on velocity.
  6. splices are great but expensive if you cant do it yourself. im a bit suprised by these tests. i bet the test was done on a fresh knot. i only use fishermens for my lanyard but after a while when its bedded in and the loose end has shrunk i recon that it would work better then a new knot.
  7. is that a kohler petrol engine, what hp is it? similar to the one in my chipper.

    hook/pole

no thanks, i get frustrated as it is. the last thing i need is to watch my groundies messing around with my throwline. steve, where do you get them from?

    hook/pole

anyone got an idea for making a telescopic pole/hook for hangers? i need one and dont want to buy one for silly money. there must be a cheap alternative?
  10. seems a bit wasteful to me, surely it must be usefull for something other then firewood.
  11. what colleges offer open learning via post or internet?
  12. theres nothing wrong with alloy spikes either.
  13. whats a dutchmans? cutting the strap on a bore cut should be done parallel or below coming up. there is a danger that your saw could get trapped if you cut above the strap. what do you do if the diameter of the branch isnt width enough to do a bore cut safely? do you make the face cut deeper and then keep cutting on the back cut?
  14. according to the website its 12mm http://www.samsonrope.com/index.cfm?ind=13&app=25&rope=73&inst=1
  15. im unsure if i should go for samson Arbormaster as its seems popular and has good reviews. also its a 12mm line which might be a better then taking the plunge on a 11mm rope and then not getting on with it. but im still tempted to get a velocity rope.
  16. i paid 150 for my Haix and i thought that was alot. im hoping to get more then a year out of them.
  17. i never went to college and i hope that my work isnt rough. ive known climbers who have been to college whos work isnt great. at the end of the day its more about your attitude then your training. but if i got into treework at an yearly age i would have gone to college. im still planning to do a open learning course very soon.
  18. goto college, that way you will get your climbing/chainsaw tickets and learn about tree biology.
  19. well you know what they say big hands..
  20. 2mm makes alot of difference. 11mm just feels so small in my hand.
  21. im going to get a new rope. whats your favourite 13mm rope?
