  1. im going to get a porty. so what size rope best for that? ive always used 16mm, but is it needed?
  2. what lowering rope would you recommend? is it best to go for a 16mm rope? also which blocks are the best?
  3. some weeks have been very quiet for me. the private stuff goes quiet on the run upto xmas here.
  4. ive heard good things about the isuzu's. used to work with a 7.5 tonner, very good imo.
  5. is wood drier in the winter as the there is more fliud in the rootball or is that crap?
  6. shouldnt you avoid having your anchor point on the same stem as the block if you can avoid it. i would have put a step cut on that one personnally.
  7. an hour for lunch! im lucky to get 20mins somedays.
  8. ive burnt green ash with no problems in my wood burner. ive burnt silver birch with the ash and they burnt at similar speeds. silver birch is a very good wood which can be burnt green. surely all wood burns if it is seasoned?

    Holz Hausen

what i like about it is the pole having a marker to say when the wood is seasoned. also with the bark on the top there is no need for a roof.
  10. i think its fine, it does sound cheap, thats why i think hes talking ****. ill ask him again next week.
  11. i wont get a cabstar for under 5 grand unless its well old tho.
  12. i disagree with birch buring too fast as well.
  13. http://www.thechimneysweep.ca/6seasoningwood.html anyone tried this method of seasoning wood? looks interesting.
  14. youve probably heard it before but ill post it up. Beechwood fires are bright and clear If the logs are kept a year, Chestnut's only good they say, If for logs 'tis laid away. Make a fire of Elder tree, Death within your house will be; But ash new or ash old, Is fit for a queen with crown of gold. Birch and fir logs burn too fast Blaze up bright and do not last, it is by the Irish said Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread. Elm wood burns like churchyard mould, E'en the very flames are cold But Ash green or Ash brown Is fit for a queen with golden crown. Poplar gives a bitter smoke, Fills your eyes and makes you choke, Apple wood will scent your room Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom Oaken logs, if dry and old keep away the winter's cold But Ash wet or Ash dry a king shall warm his slippers by.
  15. living the dream... i love to work in a team like that. ive just had alot of bad experiences with poor ground staff. it probably my fault for working for bad com panies. the quality of the groundstaff is probably my biggest problem at work.
  16. im not saying that groundworkers shouldnt be qualified and good at their jobs, why should someone whos being paid near minium wage be expected to be doing almost everthing which is what that document suggests. the bloke who owns the vans should be responsible for there up keep. i wouldnt expect a groundworker who hasnt even seen the job to know what equipment is needed, that would be for the person who quoted the job surely.
  17. my day as a subbie is 7.30 to 4.00 but i can finish later. upto 5.30 on a bad day.
  18. my boss says he is selling his Schliesing mx 200 for 5 grand plus vat. its about 4 yrs old. but sometimes he talks **** so if your intersted ill ask him again.
  19. ground work is almost a minimum wage job. i dont see why they should be told when to take a dump, services vehicles, be responsible for what kit is on the van blah blah blah.
  20. the whole thing is way over the top imo. pure fantasy. id like a 6 foot swedish wife who loves nursing my handovers please..
  21. hope you got insurance for it going tits up
  22. i have to echo that point about the **** plastic rectangles. they are no good, they always flick to the side and im sure they will be the first thing to break. apart from that they are the business. i did lose my silk from lifting my leg up high today, but i dont think you can solve that without attaching the handle to the scabbard or the saw pod but then that will take away from the ease of use. im thinking of spraying my silky handle flourescent pink not because im a homo but its the only colour which will stand out.
  23. ive read that before, the guy who wrote that lives in fantasy land imo.
