  1. very sorry to hear about this. can the path of the fall alter from the tree splitting out? if its a heavy leaner then surely its only going one way? if you are in the correct position when cutting i dont see how a tree can land on you?
  2. im not dismissing it, infact i think it sits nicer then a double fishermans. ive never used a stopper knot for this use before, were as i use double fishermens all the time. i think 13mm rope looks too bulky for me. how about some 11mm blaze or velocity? i take it 10mm prussik ropes knot will not be big enought to use with a double overhand?
  3. you have got turner hire in sheffield, try them.
  4. thanks marc, bob showed me some of that enex the other day and said it wasnt suitable. like you say its not ideal. im thinking more towards the 10 mm prussik rope, i trust a double fishermens over a stopper knot.

    wasp nest

i was stripping this conifer a while ago, got near the top then saw that there was a birds nest and a wasp nest in it. the bird would have flown by now but the wasps are still in it. any ideas what i can do with it? i need the cash and want the tree down. i would have thought that the cold would have killed them off by now.
  6. i do alot of conifers, cant say i feel depressed.
  7. not sure what he used it for but he was happy to take it away.

  9. i think your landrover is awesome. have you got a winch on the front?
  10. im getting some greedy boards made up for my new van and i was wondering if you think i need to make it completely roofed or not? adding a roof will make it more sturdy but will increase the cost. im getting it make out of metal but i have thought about ply as its alot cheaper but doesnt look very good and wont last as long. what are your thoughts?
  11. i need one, does anyone know a cheap supplier?
  12. bob, have you tried armitage? not sure if they supply husky tho.
  13. im going to get a bench grinder for mine. what disk type are u using again bob?
  14. what prices are we looking at for the stihl on the roll?
  15. bob, do saw and tool sharpen blades? how much?
  16. wow... beats my entec, but i doubt i could tow it!
  17. one guy used to take anything over 2 inch, must have been selling it on to turners.
  18. im thinking of using the Samson Tenex 9mm Rope as a bridge. it has a MBS 2,767.kg. this should be ok right? what do you think the safest knot to tie at each end?
  19. whats involved in making up your own chains from a reel? what do you need and how much money would you save?
  20. saw mills will have it if they can get it in good lengths.
  21. does anyone make there own bridges for their harnesses? my bridge on my butterfly starts fraying? im on my second one this year. i was thinking about buying some strong cord and making my own with a double fishermens at each end. but then i worry that its another thing that could fail.
  22. i want to go on a course.
  23. is cutting the hinge away with the letter cut a bad idea? ive heard different points of view? i read also that when topping trees, have a 75 degree gob so that the hinge breaks when the tree top is horizontal to the tree's stem. this reduces stem wobble. also if you do a bore cut, when you cut the strap cut from below as there is a chance that if you cut above the saw could get trapped.
  24. i think horse chestnut needs time to season and spits alot but thats what ive read, i havent burnt any myself. theres alot of deseased chestnuts around so alot of people are going to be burning it.
