    Walnut

ok, yeah its gotta be chainsaw milled because of access, which is a bit of a shame in itself. the main stem isn't that long, 7-8 ft. thanks for the advice guys, i'll post some pics of the planks

    Walnut

We felled a mature black walnut today, unfortunately it had grown a foot from a wall so pulling the root ball out was out of the question but the main stem is really dark right out to the sapwood. We were meant to be logging it for the clients son but decided against it! So financially speaking whats the best sizes to mill it? Here's a pic of a piece from the upper crown to show the colour of the wood. the main stem is probably 60-70 cm DBH.
  3. nice one guys....next question: where can i get mine retro fitted with a knee bar?another.. can i do it myself with a bit of welding?etc.. is it worth it or should i just sell and buy something newer...didn't think i'd be needing it hse standard but turns out i will.

  7. does anyone know the torque settings for the blades on this chipper?
  8. up north for the next 3days i'm afraid
  9. pop off the black plastic cover and have a look in the side of the roller casing, it often gets clogged up with bits. It helps to cut a little bit off the black cover to allow the 'bits' to fall out the casing rather than collect then get jammed
  10. every helmet should have a heat proof brolly attachment for such occasions!
  11. I'm not entirely getting why there is such a problem with his method, it's just a spear cut but big isn't it? as for kickback it's a big heavy bar so aint gonna punt too far...and kick seems fairly unlikely...looks like he's done it before. i like your vids dude, keep em coming! And I definitely wouldn't pick up a grizzly to trip a widow maker (it's just a term which kinda fits i guess, didn't it get trawled in his last thread too?)
  12. Awsome Fiona, good work!!
  13. House Prices will tell you if the house has been sold in the last 10 years (and the price )

  19. ahh, fair enough, anywhere round here?(spares). have to say i'm not totally impressed so far. is the honda a diesel & what was the damage?
  20. is that the only option, no parts so new engine?
  21. wowzers Did you ever manage to find parts for it?
  22. Does anyone know where i can get parts for the kohler magnum m20 engine? i'm after a new pcv valve, had oil gushing out the dipstick holder today, i hope its the pcv as if it's not its the piston rings apparently
  23. Cheers guys. Yews can be hot harder than most in my experience, it's just the re growth can only be dealt with viably with hedgies, this was my dilemma, reduce by alot and write off the remaining shadow as forever dark or attempt a thin. I don't generally like major reductions unless there is a major structural problem, so steered the customer in the direction of a thin and lift ( not having done a yew thin b4) then stood back from a different angle ant the tree has a two tree definition pretty much 50/50, one side growing much faster than the other. I'll get some pics to show what I mean.....this leant me in the direction of a balance by reduction...something i had just lobbied against.......hmmm dilemmas major red or thin or thin and balance reduction on one side of tree? Def gonna photo yhis one, maybe every 6mths to monitor progress ( it's on the site of my yard)
  24. Just looked at a medium yew, the client wants more light to reach the house as its quite, but not too close. they like the tree, which is lopsided which i'm gonna balance up, but i said i would attempt a thin with light in mind. what're my chances of a decent outcome. never tried to do this spec to a yew
  25. just been offered part of a large barn for £4 sq ft yr. can choose how much of it i want so was thinking of putting the chipper, saws, ropes etc in it so think about 10x20 should be enough for me, might get a bit of a workbench in there too, reckon it's a steal!!
