  1. forgetting to remove the pulley from the top of the tree.
  2. gloves with rubber palms they're great!
  3. First time climbing on my nptc training I looked down at my prussic and my 3 way was wide open where it had rubbed against a branch! Hasn't happened since but.... Maybe a spin lock on 3 ways could be developed. Don't think I'd always lock them, but if you know you aint gonna change your anchor for a while it would be a pretty failsafe design.
  4. the council keep gettting us to do 20-30% reductions on old acer pollards with 4-5yrs of growth, gimme a big ash any day!!
  5. ere, there aint no glaciers on the surface of mars and hasn't been for 00000s of years:confused1: the temp rise on mars is due to albedo, the reflection of the sunlight from dust. ie there is less dust blowing in the atmosphere of the planet, maybe our temperature rises are due to winds dying down on mars! I have to say I wouldn't sit in my greenhouse with the 088 on full revs for long, bit smaller than the earth(less engines mind) but there are plants, water, soil, insects etc I imagine the climate of my greenhouse would change I just wouldn't hang around to find out!
  6. Is that round the mid 347,970's BC?
  7. Is it true that the only ms200 chains now available are the anti kick type? they seem to be the only ones we can get at the moment. I really dont like using them, they still dont cut as well as the normal chain after a bit of flat filing!
  8. when hedge trimming leylandii (ugghhh) put down a tarp under the hedge before starting & don't let it get too full = no cleanup!!
  9. Amazon
  10. I've been on lavoro's for a year, had my first lace snap about a month back. real nice boots imo. just got some hiax, they're quite comfy (prefer lavoro so far), need wearing in me thinks but they are "what hero's wear"
  11. dude, when there's a tree to be climbed!! as for rent free, get outta town! x mwah mwah x
  12. this is a pheonix, horrible, horrible things!
  13. treemeup

    cracks

had it with beech and gum, is it due to the tension of helical growth "unwinding" as its cut? I'd agree....safe as
  14. Will do, think I've just needed a bit of a gee up! that'd be ace, nice one....there would def be a drink or two on their way to ya! I'm after 3 days a week at the mo,but i'll take less/maybe more. I'll also work weekends if someones desperate
  15. Definitly, especially when the boss quoted for a crane only to find out it wouldn't reach......and got the same price any way, in the same time frame, one very happy boss.
  16. absolutly treediver, but at the mo i'm just working for companies who are covered and will cover anything i do under their PLI.(never had a claim, touch wood...lots!) I hear you steve/tockmal, I shall follow up my c.v's with a phone call in the morning
  17. Thanks high scale, fingers crossed I won't be needing it! How was it when you were setting up in the area? If you ever need an extra climber drop me a line-07814967325.
  18. Yep, I'm referenced right up Big A. What size public liability should I be getting quotes for? I think the minimum is a mill? The company I worked for in Cornwall used to use a subbie climber and he only had to have personal injury, but that was a while back. I would obviously like to have public liability, but as it stands I dont have much work on, and certainly nothing where (much) damage could be done. I will get a quote tho. So I should be sending all my references off, I have only been including my most recent, although I've only worked for two co's, oops! Hopefully it is just the timing though like Big A says. I'm gonna hold out for a few more weeks! nice one guys
  19. a pine blew over in someones back garden, over some of the house/shed etc. No scope for getting in a crane but there were two larger pines growing either side of where this one had stood so we got a real big bull rope, tied it off on one, down to the windblown(through a pulley), back up to the other, through another pulley and down to the truck which we tensioned the rope with. We had to be quite careful pulling up the slack with guys watching all 3 trees!
  20. I'm trying to set up as a freelance climber... but not too sure the best way to go about it. I've just returned from working away to an area I've never done treework in before(my first mistake?) I also have been climbing less than 3 years however I have had plenty of experience, in the private sector mostly (lots of rigging(when needed) with some clearance work. I am now living where I grew up and I have a couple of contacts in the area who are giving me work when they can (1-2days a week). But not enough. I have been sending my c.v off to no avail. Also should I have my own insurance? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Just returned from a year as lead climber in NZ. Got my climbing kit/saw, transport. Been in the industry for 3 yrs, climbing two and a half, NPTC- cs30,31,38&39. I live in the Bristol/weston area. PM me if your interested.
