  1. Tommer, i will be getting a splice in my next rope (although I may search out a chandlery in the area, nice one mate) at the moment it really isn't a major problem for me, the point of this thread was to bring to the attention of DMM/treemagineers an idea to improve the HC's usability
  2. Mark, at McDonalds is freedom of thought and speech looked down upon? Are ideas of the improvement and development of equipment shot down at the first? If so i'm not sure i'd want to be part of such an industry
  3. What makes no sense Steve? There is no mention in any of the information provided with the HC or on the treeworker.co.uk website in the product description of the need for a splice whatsoever! I don't have a major problem using this system the way i do, i've been climbing on it for 3yrs and have never found myself in trouble due to it, its just a minor annoyance to me (as previously stated). However from some of your (obviously very negative) views on the HC's use without a splice and from a recent other thread about a fall (for whatever the reason) I believe the need for a splice with this system should be pointed out to prospective users at some point in the purchasing process, or the product should be altered so as it can be used without a splice end of thread?
  4. I just think something like the HC should be usable by everyone, not just those with a splice
  5. I know but up against a rope they just look a little frail whatever the rating. Blood. Stone.
  6. not a bad idea but its just more bits being untidy in the system, not sure i trust slings enough to put in my system I do have a spare ally ring though, will give that a try next week
  7. Instead of a smaller carabiner could they produce a HC which is possible to tie directly into the top hole like the new pinto's? this would work and allow those without a splice to use a HC with the same peace of mind as those with!
  8. Was he climbing on a hitchclimber? could his termination have caught the top of the vt and stopped it from biting? Hope he recovers well, never nice to hear about a bad fall
  9. Yep dirrrty great pheonix, I never got attacked too badly by them....lucky i guess. I'm sure i've got a few of hukka, and fairy falls but canny find them there are definitly some great sights out there!
  10. I'm pretty sure i'm not gonna fall(slide) any further than 5-10cm with this issue so its not a major, just a little annoying. Things do seem to be getting smaller these days ay, think i'll have a splice by then though. I'm probably due a new rope pretty soon anyway, but my list is building fast....not sure if the boss will be too keen
  11. I know dude, i really should but I've been on a fishermans for a while now and i prefer it, and what with all the mahooosive trees i climb every day i dont want to have to keep retying as i've used that extra foot of rope in my termination if things aint so smooth from the middle hoop then i'll go for a big bowline. I still think dmm should make me a carabina though
  12. This is why i love arbtalk! i reckon that'l do the trick, so long as it still self tends ok from there.
  13. Gotta love some of the insects out there!
  14. I've been on this system for 3 yrs and don't really want to change it (apart from having a splice ) I'll just keep giving it a tap before i sit back the other pulleys i've used don't have anywhere near the smoothness rupe
  15. Fair enough but my ropes don't have spliced eyes and I don't know anyone who can splice in the area. It would be nice to have a hc/vt system which didn't dictate the need for a splice though. I'm pretty sure a few people would have been put off the hc who don't have a splice also for this reason. For me.... i guess i'll just have to stick it out till i need a new rope.
  16. Could would it be possible for the guys at DMM/treemagineers to produce a smaller carabiner so that it keeps my dead end knot below the top of my friction hitch on my HC please? I don't know if this happens to anyone else but when I've just pulled in a bit of slack the hitch is lower than my fishermans/bowline which then holds on the top, giving me an occasional self descending system which I am wary of and haven't dropped any decent distance but would prefer not to have to worry about! I was thinking a small almost round one might do the trick
  17. had that on a lime not too long ago....was a little apprehensive about going up in case i got swarmed by spiders
  18. cool they have some very nice trees, the falling over oak is a beauty! they have some smaller furry tree cutters too......
  19. they do in atlanta after the olympic temperature rise i believe
  20. thanks paul, you've got some interesting stuff going on, loving the winch truck!! I think its a Australian flame tree but i may be wrong. It's out in west auckland for anyone who knows it.
  21. Pohutakawa i think, and quite a specimen! I forget the name of this tree but it's a good place for a treehouse!
  22. knew i'd seen this before somewhere. It's at the site of the beautiful days festival in devon, the pigs seemed to like them...
