  1. I agree, don't try re-inventing the wheel! I would favour 1 - process small 5ft max and throw shift. I man throws his own batch from tree to chipper so route is clear for next man to follow and 1st man is gone before 2nd man, 3rd man etc. starts throwing. Done this for years and there are far worst methods. Good luck.
  2. So 25 tonnes next year and 1000 tonnes the year after. It would be interesting to hear what you plan to do with 1000 tonnes of Hardwood.
  3. That's a fortunate scenario and an advantage of having plenty of level space, whereas I have plenty of sloping space which doesn't fit with stacking up IBC's.
  4. If you buy one of these used be aware that the central bearing can be worn and replacement bearing can cost up to £750 and not an easy replacement task. Also I have know for water to ingress into the gearbox when kept outside. Good luck.
  5. With just cutting hats how do you keep the rain from soaking the sides of the IBC's.
  6. Point taken. I think as Arbtalk is promoting sites, people should be aware of the legislation - none of us like skeletons in the cupboard that may appear later to haunt us ?
  7. Being the devil's advocate - should we not all be checking that the site we tip on has EA exemption for what we proposed tipping in place ?
  8. It's extremely encouraging to hear so many thinking about what sort of planet we are going to leave for our children and our children's children in future years. When you read those cut and paste editorials from the woodburner installers about how great kiln dried is and don't burn anything else because it is inferior, it gets the blood boiling. If they just told the 100% truth that's acceptable. There was an individually selling imported bulk loads, but he soon fell by the wayside when customers trying to save on kiln dried switched to our air dried and have never looked back. Kiln dried Firewood ?
  9. You can if you wish - however it's just not worth it as to comply: No 'artificial' separation allowed. Partnership required for one of the businesses. Separate bank account. Separate set of accounts. Separate advertising etc. Cannot use the same equipment for both both businesses unless you Invoice 1 business for say use of vehicle e.g. 1 day hire inc. fuel. £ 90. Etc Etc
  10. I forgot to post this info ---- At the APF I did a real time test of the new MSA 161 against the old model. Crosscut some 8" Ash, Old model 10 seconds New model 6 seconds I make that 40% faster - sort of says it all ! ?
  11. A dehumidifier is a 100% waste of time. It will only remove what is in the atmosphere surrounding the timber and in any container it will be months and months before the wood tissues give up their MC. ?
  12. You need to replicate on a smaller scale exactly what the commercial manufacturers produce only on a smaller scale. However I would not consider investing in most of those on the market in the UK as they are inefficient and costly to run due to fundamental design flaws. If you are on the feed in tariff of course this doesn't matter so much.
  13. I've held back on any form of advertising because as we all now in the South West timber was in short supply and this delayed our drying cycle. Fortunately we have had a few loads of timber well on the way with around 37m3 on the lorries and hopefully more to come. Luckily as we have a reasonably draughty storage area with everything in crates, MC drops rapidly even in winter.
  14. Everything Spud ported 346xp, 357xp and for the small work 201 rear handle. Oh and off the ground 2511.
  15. Last week was well up on last year 26m3 and we had raised prices by £5 which made no difference. 9 so far this week, so it looks set to be a record year and everything we have crated up is drying rapidly in the dry breezy weather. Oil prices are steadily rising and more and more customers say they are just using the woodburner.
  16. More like 14 metres if he fills them to that level ! Some great photos there in the sunshine ?
  17. Or fit hydraulic motor run off the tractor service through basic spool valve.?
  18. The Posch is faster than it looks actually and we love it - but the amount of oversize is killing us. 1/2 a 25T load 2 weeks ago was oversize - murder ! If I was in your shoes I would be looking at cutting a track to get the lorries to the processor, possible harvest the stone from site (ugg - maybe not if granite) and getting a log deck you can load from stack to deck. You know about ibc's and everything is in place to grow your business and have an easier life further down the road. You already have a great reputation, so it would be easy to expand your customer base. Dare I say you are limiting your own growth - think BIG, or at least larger. It's always easier looking in from the outside of course. ?
  19. I was going to build a splitter with a metre wide roller infeed that finished within 14" of splitter knife centre, so that large 2ft dia. hardwood rings would slide off the trailer or pallet across the rollers and its own inertia would take the ring under the knife. A used conveyor on the right of table taking the split into IBC's. Trailer or pallets of rings always just above wide roller infeed - never lifting those heavy rings. I decided easier and far more cost effective to change to the 480 processor - soon !
  20. Need to be registered, taxed, insured and on white diesel if not solely for use in agriculture or forestry.
  21. I think you will be far better off selling privately, as that's what I plan to do with my Posch. ?
  22. Yes, pretty well all the hire companies have them - we've hired several for weeks at a time over the years and I'd be happy with one.
  23. A Bond machine - so well looked after. Where do I sign?
  24. Just missed you then. Spent 1 1/2 hours with Mark, Adrian at Kilworth and also the technician from the Tajfun factory. Waiting for the price now on my particular modified 480+. What do you think the depreciation would be on a 3 year old 480+ ?
  25. This is one of my favorites of Duckgirl's impressive use of a Duck with Engcon attached.
