A local powerstation wants me to plant on the top of an ash heap. The ash is apparently pretty inert, very fine particles not very porus and possibly high in amonia. Covered with topsoil only 8 inches deep. Any recomendations? They want instant effect, but I think the only way we are likely to get anything to establish without adding lots of top soil is to put some small whips or plugs in. They want natives. My thoughts. A mix of alder, birch, feild maple and ash.

But if you have a 300 trees to do and it takes 3 months, you can't invoice untill all the works are complete.. -
I must be doing it wrong.. I found to decend I needed to hold on to the wrench, pulling it down to the VT. I think the cord from the wrench might be to short..

Tried SRT with the rope wrench today for the first time on a poplar tale down. Can't say I was blown away, yet.. Did feel a little odd, but not that different from climbing with a hitch climber, felt weird only having one line. I guess the main difference comes from using ascenders, is the pantin combo the way forward. I used a pair of acenders which I've had for about 12 years but never used... Is it only me or do others find the edges of the wrench and bolts, less than comfortable when gripping it to decend? Could someone biuld a nice smooth brushed alli device which is more tactile...

Jack, are you keeping busy with the private work.. With councils there are lots of hoops to jump though and you have to be able to afford to wait before you get paid! It's normally more then three months from start of works to getting any cash, our last job started 14th of November and we were paid last week february! Unfortunately any staff and subbies are not willing to wait that long so it is a pain with cash flow. -
Mine hopefully arrives tomorrow, along with a rope wrench... Recent threads on Arb talk have been costly.. Reckon I might have found a use for those hundreds of golf balls I picked up!

Get a bigger chipper and they ain't so bad. Felling over 40 big buggers on a golf course. Lots of chip (and golf balls)- filled the 6.5 ton iveco twice, the 8 ton grain trailer twice and the 130 today. It's our second day and were about 2/3rds through. Got to get rid of the timber next! Anyone want 15-20tons of leylandii wood..?

I have two numbers with Tamar, both forwarded to my mobile. Also have a landline diverted to it. You do get annoyed with sales calls however because you pay for the cost of the divert! So every call you get costs at least 6p.

If you are VAT registered and buy a secondhand vehicle without VAT, if you then sell it do you have to add VAT? -

There have been lots of threads on this. We sell ours £9 a ton to stobart biomass.

Which form is it? As I we have to down plate the 6.5 tonner to 6 as our chipper is 2.2 tons and didn't realise the little 106 after the c1 on the licence restricts our train weight to 8.250

Give the lad a chance, was he trying really hard to impress? Guys new to tree work trying to keep up with old hands will rarely manage. If he was just being lazy forget it but if he worked himself sick sounds like he's keen.

Unless you really need one I would get something else. They have they're positives, and there is not much to compare but they are agricultural. For £4000 you could buy a 1995 LR 90 with 150,000 miles for the same money you could get a 1999 disco with 100,000 miles or even a range rover.

Ditto! I flew hang gliders and paragliders, put it all on hold since kids and starting a business. Takes over your life! There is nothing like thermaling wingtip to wingtip with a a buzzard or a red kite.

It's an emergency.. They are not phoning round for quotes. Make it safe as quick as possible, come back in normal hours at normal rates to clean up.
