  1. I was replying to gensetsteve. who said they could only tow 2 tons. I now now you want a 4x4.. This has been endlessly discussed.
  2. My 3.5 ton NPK Grafter can tow 3.5 tons and some of the cabstars also can.
  3. Why dot get a grafter or transit or cabstar etc..
  4. Have you got all those pops down yet?
  5. Still looking for experienced climbers. Groundies also contact me as we may have need for you also.. I want local guys/gals who I can give regular work too. We have a good experienced team and great kit! [email protected]
  6. I believe so, people downplate 4 and even 5.5 tonners to 3.5 so they can drive them on a normal licence and without O licensing etc.. You have to show that the vehicle is not overweight when empty. I thought about downplating a sprinter 4.6 4x4, but you end up with being overloaded even quicker then in a regular 3.5 tonner!
  7. As I understand it on a pre 97 licence you need an HGV test if driving with a train weight of over 8250kg or a vehicle with a GVW of over 7500kgs. The 107 code on the pre 97 licence restricts you to a maximum train weight of 8250kg as said, it nearly caught us out, and we had to downplate our 6.5 ton iveco to 6 ton so we can tow the 2.2 ton chipper! But in the land rover and our new NKR we can tow the 3.5 ton trailer. It is a bit messed up as I'd much rather be pulling the 3.5 ton trailer with the iveco as it stops and pulls much better then the landrover!
  8. You didn't say you needed lots of power and ground clearance... I've been looking for 3 seaters in the past with fuel economy as the primary concern. The partner/belingo with the bench seat would therefore be good IMO. I have recently been looking for tippers and saw that little tipper. As I was mentioning partners thought I'd post the link.
  9. fiat multipla, Honda FRv and the new berlingo's/partners can have 3 seats up front. Unfortunately this partner only has 2.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2012-PEUGEOT-PARTNER-HDI-TIPPER-TGS-CONVERSION-FOR-SALE-/400524320688?pt=UK_Commercial_Trucks&hash=item5d411c1fb0
  10. Anyone any experience with these type machines? CPM Pellet mill/briquetter rape straw sawdust biomass fuel wood chip shavings | eBay Pellet mill / Pellet press PTO tractor driven for fuel or feed pellets | eBay
  11. Has there been any progress in this. There was chat 4 or 5 years ago, with forum members designing or doing it. Are there any smallish scale processes out there that will work with arb waste.
  12. We put two lads through the trees and timber apprenticeship last year, we had to pay a couple of hundred quid and pay them. I was not that impressed with the course, nor were the lads. It was different to what is currently on offer in that they had to do days every now and then rather then every week. Don't underestimate how expensive it is in to train guys or gals. Getting a climber to a commercial speed takes a lot of practice, with an experienced guy often watching/acting as a groundie and therefore not working/earning as they should be. The plus side is that they learn to do things your way.
  13. Due to my broken collar bone I've had to get the value contract climbers in again... Not a bad reduction, although the PPE was lacking!!
  14. I wish we could get 850-900 a day for two men and chipper! There are countless variables in pricing. A bigger crew, with bigger kit can be quicker. Two men on a big job are going to way slower. Depending on the job a decent climber can keep 3 guys on the ground feeding a 10 inch chipper busy. If you have one guy on the ground feeding a 6 inch the climber is going to spend allot of time waiting. They might have sold the chip for biomass so having a whole tree chipper in at no cost. Or they might have messed up! I have lost count of the number of big jobs I have underpriced.. Its not an exact science. I am sure in the past other outfits would have said how can they do it for that price the truth being I thought it would take us x days and it took us y. Luckily they aren't all like that. A firm from birmingham has been on a job local to me in Derby taking out a load of big pops the client had 5 quotes all from reputable firms the cheapest £12000 the most expensive was £25470. (I was somewhere in the middle). I would not have wanted it for the bottom figure and can't imagine the company is going to make much profit as they have already spent 2 weeks and only about halfway there. They have lots of big kit and I am sure know what they are doing but my guess is they have underestimated and won't be doing financially great on this job. They might however do great on the next one. You can't win them all. Back to the OP, it is not such a risky strategy as I am pretty sure if they felt they couldn't do it for 5% less they just would not do the job. At least they have had a chance to try. It's not like a potential client will force them to undertake works.. They might actually win work at a higher rate then they would have quoted. I've often been told after quoting that so and so quoted way more.. If I had known that I could have been only 5% cheaper
  15. I know it has been done: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/large-equipment/21153-got-myself-log-splitter-last-2.html Does anyone know the flow rate and pressure a TW 190 should be able to produce. Our tractor that we currently use is 50l per min and 180bar. But using a 160hp tractor to run the splitter seems excessive and would like to split without the tractor.. The powerpacks all seem to be only 30l per min and would presumably not have the flow and be slow...
  16. Office has lots of templates if you have word
  17. We have use for experienced freelance climbers, fair rates of pay. Based between Derby and Nottingham: email: [email protected] 01332875869
  18. We took the seats out, blanked out windows and removed seatbelts from our land cruiser and registered it as a Van. Cheaper insurance, and tax efficient. Also cheaper and more comfortable then a LR.
  19. Cheers, how do you rate them. I know they won't be a full on 4x4 but they have to be OK across a wet field?? They are plated for 4.6 tonnes Internet searching reveals the chassis cab can carry 2,735kg so I guess they must weigh 1,900kgs. Which if I am right compares with a transit at about 1,500kgs. Contemplating downplating for use as a third vehicle but I guess the load would be non-existent..
  20. Has any one used one for arb work? Any idea how much they weigh?
  21. As others had said, this is wrong! You have to do one but it doesn't have to be recorded unless you have more then 5 employees.. But if it all goes pair shaped then it is going to be difficult to prove you did one if it isn't recorded.
  22. I wish you would make your mind up:001_tongue: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/large-equipment/13123-wee-chipper-club.html
