  1. That santana would have been perfect!
  2. It was just a subject for discussion and as a balance for the "your worth £150 per day threads." Also to make people think, in a hope they will do the math then put up their prices.. If I do some more comprehensive analysis I might post it.
  3. That works out as less then £7,500 a year, assuming you work 5 days a week and have holidays.. We spent about £10K last year on fuel.
  4. How much then?
  5. That is before everyones wages..
  6. Have you ever worked out your costs per working day...? Just thought I'd post as employees and lets be honest employers often have little idea what it costs to run a business. If I include renewing the trucks and chippers every 5 years I reckon add another £52 a day!
  7. Doing my accounts for the last 9 months. We have Landrover and TW190 and Iveco with TW250, 4x4 and stump grinder. It costs us: BEFORE WAGES £336 per working day! How does that compare? That is without any major purchases or depreciation included..
  8. £120 for a skilled reliable freelance climber with saw etc, but for someone with only a years climbing experience expect allot less. Most guys in my experience do not climb at a commercial rate for at least 3-5 years. I've had new climbers ask for that and they don't get called often. £60 self employed does sound cheap but there are lots of people in other industries working as interns for months at a time.
  9. My local large dealer charges a bomb for repairs, it's often not worth fixing stuff. I would love to have a small trustworthy local shop who could fix my saws at a reasonable price.
  10. We used to tow our TW 190 off road with our little Mitzy Pinin. It worked really well. You wouldn't want to go proper mud plugging with it but fine across fields and tracks the transit wouldn't go.
  11. Some pics of tree. They look even bigger in real life..
  12. I had plan to rig it down but we have been 3 days on it's neighbour which is as tall but only half the size. It would be a PITA to rig as the trunk is so massive and leaning the wrong way. I messed up on the quote and it is the first time in ten years I have gone back to the client and said I'm sorry I can't do it for the price I quoted.... Feel bad about it but not as bad as I would breaking by back at a loss..
  13. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/4167-your-opinions-new-type-chipper.html Not sure if anything came of it..
  14. I have a HUGE poplar in a back garden, 2m DBH, 30m high, 20m spread, over half a dozen gardens, numerous sheds and greenhouses. The road is about 40m from the base of the tree. Is there a crane that could reach? What would they charge per day? How much would it be able to lift?
  15. If you have sold out already your too cheap... It's not even been cold yet! £75 for a bulk bag 0.6m3. £5 for a sack. Seasoned mostly hard wood, arb waste.
  16. One of our apprentices cut the tendon on his knuckle has been off for 6 weeks so far. There was very little blood just a few little holes. Take care with saws
  17. I wore mine all day climbing today. It kept me dry which was pretty impressive. I don't think it was very breathable. But cost wise it's not bad..
  18. Was there any root pruning undertaken in the years before the move? Can you update us in a few years..
  19. I was back at the property today and asked the tree owner what had happened re his legal action. This was his reply: "The outcome of my Redwood is farcical, in that the legal company representing my insurer, basically said that the courts typically only offer around £2,000 in compensation for damaged/lost trees and that the court costs could approach £12,000! So if I lost, they would have to meet this and although they accepted that the damage to the tree and ultimate felling was caused by my neighbours action, because my neighbour claimed that the roots had damaged their pathway, they said they have a valid defence and counter claim! " Just shows you can mutilate your neighbours tree without concern... On a brighter note a nice police lady has just returned my stolen D8!!
  20. A D8 came up for sale in my village 2 days after mine was robbed. What a coincidence... Anyway the little numpty must have thought christmas had come early when someone was going to bring him £300 cash. I guess he got a shock when it turned out it was the old bill! He was knicked and I'm getting my D8 back! I would have loved to have seen his stupid little face!
  21. It was stolen from my truck last night.. I did use it for tree heights and plotting trees. It did work well but deffo a luxury. I am not sure I will replace it as it was very expensive, I don't think one without the camera would be worth it. I generally used it to get the height of a few trees during a day but I tend to estimate most heights as even with the D8 your guestimating the top of the tree. Some of these phone apps look pretty good so might just try them..
  22. I spent the extra on the D8. Always use the camera function when measuring tree heights and it works well for me.
  23. I had to buy the GRCS, I've had it out on 4 or 5 jobs now and am now one of the converted! I love it! Used it for lowering big lumps and lifting stuff over phone lines, tensioning zip lines and pulling leaning trees. It has numerous uses.. We took down 7 willows leaning over a canal last week. Customer annoyingly told me one firm had quoted £2,600 one £1,400. I'd quoted £750. The control you have with the GRCS is great and we were done by 3! Customer was impressed by our speed and efficiency!
  24. Ditto to that. Try German makes, they have wide feet apparently.
  25. That is who I called to get me out! The diff locks on both vehicles are temperamental at best with the Land cruiser just not working at all, so as 4wd vehicles they are both lacking somewhat! Stick a trailer on the Land cruiser and it will get stuck as soon as it gets a bit slippy.
