  1. I had the subaru sumo, got some bigger wheels and mud and snow tires went places you couldn't go with a land rover.. (small places) Great little van.
  2. Small people fit much better in the front of the Land Rover.. Big Plus.
  3. Many.. The benifits of the silky are no noise, no fumes, cheaper, but probably more dangerous... If the 150 had uses the same chain as the 200's I'd have ordered one last week, I'd like to try one.
  4. I know the 150 is lighter and I am tempted, but if your only using it for small stuff can you not just use a silky?
  5. The consensus seems to be I need to send him on training. Does he need a three day £650 course or should a couple of hours with an instructor be enough. I know it depends on his driving standard, just interested in others experience.
  6. I want one of our lads to do the trailer test so he can tow bigger trailers. Does he need to/is it worth him doing the training first, or should I just get him a book to read up and and book the test. Is it pretty straightforward or should we get some training first? He drives OK and tows the little chipper.
  7. Posted this on the jimny thread, but if your looking for a cheap defender, these would have had an easy life, although salt could be an issue. Land Rover Defender 110 2.5 Litre Diesel Land Rover - Asset #wts18023 - GoIndustry DoveBid You will have to may more then a grand however. I'd go for the jimny..
  8. Could bag a bargain.. Also a bunch of 110's that have had an easy life: Suzuki Jimny 4x4 SUV - Asset #wts18022 - GoIndustry DoveBid Land Rover Defender 110 2.5 Litre Diesel Land Rover - Asset #wts18023 - GoIndustry DoveBid
  9. I'm getting two tomorrow so I hope they are OK. I know the 200T was/is a great saw but only for 12-18 months. I've had 8 or 9 over the years but never had one remain reliable after that.
  10. I recently brought a "climbing wall" well a load of ply painted with sandy paint and some with tee nuts (off ebay for about £8). Planning on a small tower or round the shed. Having the tee nuts means you can easily change the wall. I'm going to keep it bouldering height so kids will be less likely to break their necks and can use it without supervision.
  11. Has anyone ever used any of them? Is there a decent copy?
  12. Do they do long sleeve versions yet?
  13. I am not an accountant, I just divided the number of days worked by the cash I had to spend. With the Flat rate VAT scheme you pay a fixed percentage (9% i think) on all sales even though you charge 20%. To us it it just a cost like anything else. Yes it will go up with sales but so will fuel use, chain use etc etc..... It willl inflate the daily costs but cash comes in and goes out...
  14. I believe the Flat rate scheme threshold is now £250K a year. I included VAT payments as to me they are a payment that goes out of the bank like everything else. I can't see why folk are arguing with my figures. I'm not making them up. I am not saying they are good, bad, high or low.. All I did was divide what I spent (excluding wages and drawings) by the numbers of work days in the year. As I see it that is what the daily cost this year has been to run my business.
  15. The figures are not exaggerated by a factor of two. We have spent a fair bit on training and a consultant this year. It does include the VAT payments, we are on the fixed rate so we can't claim any of it back. Others posting with one vehicle are around the £130 for one truck and chipper so thats not a million miles out. We have two teams and the stump grinder and 4x4 for quoting and surveys included.
  16. Were are you based? Our local dealer is £52.50 + VAT per hour!
  17. We sold all our chip last year. Probably 12 arctic loads. It's worth a couple of grand even after loading..! I never give it away any more, unless it helps the job! Each truck load is £10-£20..
  18. It was just a subject for discussion and as a balance for the "your worth £150 per day threads." Also to make people think, in a hope they will do the math then put up their prices.. If I do some more comprehensive analysis I might post it.
  19. That works out as less then £7,500 a year, assuming you work 5 days a week and have holidays.. We spent about £10K last year on fuel.
  20. Have you ever worked out your costs per working day...? Just thought I'd post as employees and lets be honest employers often have little idea what it costs to run a business. If I include renewing the trucks and chippers every 5 years I reckon add another £52 a day!
  21. Doing my accounts for the last 9 months. We have Landrover and TW190 and Iveco with TW250, 4x4 and stump grinder. It costs us: BEFORE WAGES £336 per working day! How does that compare? That is without any major purchases or depreciation included..
  22. £120 for a skilled reliable freelance climber with saw etc, but for someone with only a years climbing experience expect allot less. Most guys in my experience do not climb at a commercial rate for at least 3-5 years. I've had new climbers ask for that and they don't get called often. £60 self employed does sound cheap but there are lots of people in other industries working as interns for months at a time.
