I know a 130 can tow 3.5tons and GVW of 3.5 tons so does that mean its MAM or GWT is 7 tonnes? Or if it's fully loaded can it only tow less? and I guess It needs a tacho..?

Remember the PTI is not designed to teach you to do tree inspections but to assess that you can. You will lean stuff but won't pass unless you already know your stuff, especially fungi ident. The Mike Ellison VTA course teaches you about VTA but you don't get a qualification. I've not done the QTRA so can't comment.. I'd do the PTI if you think you know what your doing or the VTA then the PTI if your not so confident! -
If you have a level 3 qualification you can join as a Technical member and add Tech.Arbor.A after your name!!! Does cost more however.

I want to replace the spout on our quickchip 222, it makes a right mess compared with our Timberwolf 190. We had an extension on it but it was still rubbish. Has anyone got a spare round chipper spout I guess it should be about the size of the TW190 (6 inches?) We can then cut the one off the 222 and use its mounting plate. Cheers? Do fletcher stewart no longer deal with chippers? I cant see them on their web site?

I'm using gefa hollow cable to brace a limb on a tree in the morning but my kit has been sent with no instructions. The gefa web site is all in German and I can't find any instructions there... It's to go behind the tractor. We already use a grain trailer which we load with the loader but a crane and grab is going to be more versatile. It's for arb work so rings and short lengths. Skyhucks trailer or similar is what I'm after but I have little idea of how to go about it, or costs involved, hence my question.. Could we just get a crane of a truck, elongate the drawbar on our trailer, plonk the crane on and go to work? If so what's the best size crane, does it need to be piped for the grab, can you add that to a non piped crane? is that worth it.... etc.. etc..

What I should be looking for? I want to fit it to a grain trailer like the one sold by swb (I think) hiab tipping trailer - Arbtalk Classifieds But I want to have a grab. Recomendations please..

I'm burning loads of Wellingtonia at the moment from a tree we felled a year ago, burns well, light and fast but still good.

Make sure it's clean, AHS have rejected a number of loads from us, some had some horse muck and some soil contamination.. If they decide it's not good enough they offer it back but you have to pay haulage. If your not sure of it's quality they can send it to be screened and pay you less for it! Our chip is only loadable when dry but we have sent 6 or 7 arctic loads to them last year. When it's good they pay £7 a ton I think, which covers the cost of loading it.

Are there any out there that do 3 across the front, like the old LR's. My honda FRv does it! I want a smallish 4x4 pickup that is able to get 3 in without losing much room in the back. The extra seats would only normaly be for two of my kids so it doesn't have to be that comfy but they like riding up front and helping out. I think the double cabs end up leaving you with a tiny load area. The other option is the king/super cab.. Who do them? Nissan Navara Ford Ranger Izusu Rodeo any others?

Does the an anvil on the 190 need changing /setting up? Our 190 is not chipping as it should. We've changed the hydrolic oil and put a new filter on but even with sharp blades the chip is stringy..

Which is the best cable bracing system?

Link to the web site if your german is any good.. GEFA Fabritz As to the if it needs bracing/fell debate. I am no fan of bracing but this is a prominant tree protected by a TPO in a school. It is IMO worth keeping but I can not risk it squashing some school kids. I can't move the target so I'm going to make sure if it does fail it doesn't hit the deck. For several hundred quid a tethered system can be installed to provide a back up. The school has regular inspections so I don't have to worry about it being forgotton. -
I am installing a 'tethering system' as a back up to catch the limb if it were to fail. Any recomendations on system to use. My thoughts is the 5% expansion Gefa, but I have never used it..

I've got a Disto D8, it can measure heights without having to get a reflection off the top, but can also be used for distances in 5837 surveys etc. Leica DISTO ™ D8: UK supplier of Leica DISTO ™ measures: DISTO A2, DISTO A3, DISTO D3, DISTO A5, DISTO D5, DISTO A6, DISTO A8, DISTO D8, Leica Lino L2 and Leica Roteo 35 I'm not sure its much better then my estimations for tree heights, as it's difficult to know where the top of the tree is. The D8 is the only model with the 360 degree tilt, needed for indirect measurements.

Isn't it bad luck to cut down a yew? On the lethality of yew, I know farmers who are terrified of it.. They are convinced that the smallest leave/needle will wipe out their cows and sheep.. and have seen it happen...! I'm not convinced... I've been meaning to look it up for ages, found this: YEW Contains an alkaloid, taxine, and a heteroside, taxicatoside. Toxicity is maximal in winter and is not reduced by drying. Cut branches that are a few weeks old are more toxic than when fresh. Oral doses in g fresh plant material per kg/ body weight: LD cattle 1-10 horses 0.5-2 pigs 3 sheep, goats 10-12 dogs 8 rabbits 20 So if an cow weighs 400kg it would need 0.4 - 4kgs to kill it! Whereas a horse the same size only 0.2kgs.. I guess it's not a lot for a hungry animal to eat!

It amazes me that people will ignore recomendations.. I looked at a tree in the grounds of a hotel. They had had a report from a very well known arb saying that as long as the cavity with the bees nest at 6m is not extensive then it's acceptable, if the cavity is over 50% then it should be felled.. I got the job to probe the bees nest found the cavity to be VERY extensive and recomended felling. The estate owners decide not to fell..?

You don't have to apply it before decending! I'd get out of the tree quick if I could. Then reach to the wound dressing on my harness as soon as I hit the ground. It's good to have..

They've lots in Christchurch, New Zealand. Took me a while to work out what they were, they looked to me like British trees (if that makes sense), they didn't look like native kiwi trees, but I'd never seen big avenues of them..

I would highly recommend the Proclimber Personal First Aid Pouch. Had mine at least 3 years maybe even 4. Rarely comes off and never opens.

PD results 2008/2009 I think this demonstrates that to obtain the PD you have to be pretty special... Paper 1. - 50 entries - 27% Pass Paper 2. - 41 entries - 54% Pass Paper 3. - 32 entries - 16% Pass Paper 4. - 23 entries - 26% Pass Paper 5. - 48 entries - 38% Pass Paper 6. - 36 entries - 39% Pass Then Management exercise (these are people who have pased the prevoius 6 papers, so must know lots!) 18 entries - 27% Pass
