  1. We sharpen blades that come back to us on an over size valve grinder. Put the blade in the end of an electric motor and shuttle it back and forth in front of a spinning stone. Easy peasy. We also do sharpen flat blades for other machines as we are indeed an engineering company not an assembly company. Round blade sharpeners are available just like flat/surface grinders. I am aware of a couple of people who have made their own sharpeners.
  2. The Ass sat on his arse and thought, "nay, that weren't a good idea"
  3. Start another thread giving your experiences of buying new and the costs of replacing. Different sizes and different formats attract different resale values, as does the financial climate. You guys are the buyers. Speak on..... All suppliers of new and used should watch and read please, let the buyers have their say without a slagging match.
  4. The new Carlton is better than the 65? I bloody hope so. but does it weigh less then the frankly stupid 750kgs imposed on towing licences? How much is it? is it supported by a network of knowledgable dealers? Yes I would by from a dealer if he also ran a contracting business, if he sold kit that I needed. Same rule apply always, "Do I need it, can I afford it, can I buy it cheaper elsewhere, what'll it fetch when I'm done"!
  5. I find the biggest problem with the Bearcat range - setting aside people who don't know their own machinery- is the re-sale value. Okay, it might work in your opinion, but consider this. In these cash starved, credit crunch days it may seem cheap but is it mainstream enough to sell on when you've outgrown it and who will take it off your hands and at what price. As a manufacturers rep I am bound to be bias, but those in the know will tell you that you cannot polish a t**d and those type of machines are worth Jack all when to you want to upgrade. Sorry, but as an ex-buyer, I would not give it yardspace.
  6. Platoon. - Barbers Adagio for Strings. Also subsequently used as an Anthem for 9/11 victims. Youtube it and watch the Proms version. Can still make me shed a tear even though I've listened to that piece for umpteen years.
  7. Down in the south west, give Dougie Bennet at Tavvy Chainsaws a ring. He has done enough of them to know what to do.
  8. I got one from the local Maplins for about £10, if you have a cat or dog, point it at the floor and wiggle it. They love to chase it about. I just have to pick mine up and the cats start looking!
  9. Just shed a tear listening to Barbers Adagio for strings and Agnus Dei, very moving. [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KkObnNQCMtM[/ame] .
  10. Love the look on your lads face, "you put it where"? My kids are 10 and 12 and I nearly asked them what they knew about sex, lives and relationships last time they came to stay, on the point of asking I bottled it. I remembered the talk my Dad had with me and my bro, I couldn't work out who was embarressed most, us or him. Him for finding out how much we knew or us for admitting we knew and how we found out. I've always tried to get my kids to feel easy about asking anything and I'll try and answer honestly, failing that - Google it! Perhaps I'll square upto the job now.
  11. I'm divorced and have two kids aged 10 and 12. We split when they were 5 and 7 and while their Mum and I don't get on, we try very hard not to slag each other off in front of the kids. The distance thing is always going to be an issue, but, if it is for work and relationships and you can still communicate with your kids and see them whenever it is possible and continue to make the effort with them, why should people moan. You too have a life to lead. There is no common facter in the break down of a relationship and everyone deals/handles it differently, so unfortunately there is no definitive answer. I have known people who have moved far away and had nothing to do with their kids and they have suffered. I have also got a friend whose kids haven't seen their dad properly for 10 years and have not suffered because those around them have handled the situation appropiately. I applaud you for having the balls to ask people for their opinion and I hope it all works for you and the kids. Best wishes and good luck.
  12. Generally speaking, nose weight on a trailor should ideally be between 80kg and 120kgs. Too much can reduce the breaking and steering efficiency and too little gets "tail wagging the dog" which can be very difficult to overcome. I've seen too many trailors/caravans on their side from that! Small er vehicles need lighter nose loadings. Most towed items of plant are within parameters but plant/log trailors can be easily overloaded on the front. A scale can be cheaply purchased from most trailor/caravan type outlets.
  13. Nasty wound mate. Hope you fully recover quickly Best regards.
  14. I simple terms, a lease is like hiring. But you have to maintain it and care for it but at the end of the term, you can wave goodbye. It's not on your books as a depreciating asset and you don't have to worry about selling it or trading it in, just ask for a new one and away you go. You can walk away from it at the end of the term without a backward glance and either get another on or get a different make without the hassle of advertising, arguing over it's value, waiting for people to come and view it or anything like that. A lease can be set up to include servicing costs over 3-5 years, extra blades, blade sharpening (even a three year warranty) etc, so, if desired, you know how much that machine is going to cost over a long period of usage without the hassle of unexpected bills or other more routine costs.
  15. Everything that is good is either, immoral, illegal or bad for you!!!
  16. When you get to the position where you can afford and need to buy. Spend as much as you can, newest is best, warranty is King and talk to all the suppliers, if they are genuine then they should promote their own machines well, if they are less honest they will slag of one or two makes. Beware of cheap imitations and think of the value they should have at three years and five years. Consider this, do you NEED to buy or would a lease be better. Good luck.
  17. When you look at what genuine AVO cars fetch, I could indeed weep. Sold it in 1983 for £800 with a smashed drivers side front wing. Kept the bent RS badge as a momento. I still wonder if it still exists.
  18. "where do cd's sneak off two"? with two ex-wifes? I know where a lot of records and discs went!!!
  19. "You put your left leg in, left leg out, in, out, in, out and shake it all about"!
  20. Clamp up the bearing bolts and turn rotor over with blades attached. As long as all knives pass the anvil by roughly then same amount then that will do. We set ours up using an adjustable bearing carrier with a gap of about two mm twixt knief and anvil. Oh and don't forget to secure the bearing to the shaft overwise you'll hear a very expensive noise! Good Luck.
  21. 'Tina 1600E Bug c/w 1600 twin port/twin carb, balanced, running on super wide 5 studs. MK1 RS2000 ex rally car. Lancia Beta HPE Landrover Series 2 (for work) Volvo 340 (that went surprisingly well) Austin Princess (wedge) x 2 for racing Diesel 405 (again, surprisingly nippy) RangeRover 4.2LSE (stretched) At GreenMech Diesel Mondeo 200k miles in three years, mostly towing. TD4 Freelander 150k miles in three years Isuzu Rodeo 160k miles in three years Currently looking for Ford Pop with V8 for summer fun at Santa Pod, Shakey or York. Must be three plus seats, all PMs answered.
  22. Talk to Redwood, they should be able to diagnose over the phone. If you can turn the motor by hand, it's more likely to be the either pump or motor. The blow off (PR) valve and solenoid valve are part of the hydraulic valve assembly on the right hand side of the infeed chute, but if either fail it is unlikely to have the same symptoms you seem to be experiencing. Good luck.

    What a pilot!

I heard on th Radio 4 news that he gave the shirt off his back to a passenger that was cold! Top man...............
  24. In a way I hope it does blow, but in your opinion, would it reallyhelp the guys who are struggling for work at the mo?

    What a pilot!

A good pilot is one who has the same number of landings as take offs and every landing is a controlled crash! My Dad crash landed a Canberra in Luqa airport in Malta in the mid 60's and said later that your so busy you don't get time to worry about bowel voiding, but the "rush" you get when climbing out will last until the 12th beer! Well done that pilot and staff....
