  1. Is it going to be at Saltex or the APF? i look forward to seeing that one.
  2. I've sat back and watched this one rumble on. Mike isn't back from Egypt 'til monday so we will see what he has to say on the subject if anything. Personally, upto a certain size, give me a GreenMech over them all. High productivity, UK made, parts from dealers or factory, warranty good, blades cheap and long lasting, machine specification and above all, a rep who isn't full of bulldust who can also have a sense of humour and isn't full of his own self importance. Some of the previous posts smelt a little of booze by the way. Best regards to all.
  3. Try dragging and welting the drum at same time, that might undo it.
  4. I think that the bobby was embarressed because he had to respond to a complaint yet found three polite, well mannered children who apologized for the inconvenience caused instead of three foul mouthed chavsters, who know their rights and cannot be touched, a bit like the yob who jay walked infront of me and found that I'm not afraid of them, and horns blaring and ABS pulsing is frightening!
  5. Just got called to the door by an embarressed local Bobby, aparently, someone has complained that my two kids and a mate have been riding around the green area (dogs toilet) behind the house on an old ride on mower. Yes, I know that it's not right, but what harm are they doing really, and why is it people try to stop others from having fun because they are miserable! The people that have complained are probably those who had a miserable childhood and now let their dogs crap on the green area and pretend is wasn't them!!!! Anyone know how much 3rd party insurance on an old Westwood with no deck is?
  6. My Matador was in Egypt in 1942 (or so I was told), released thro Ruddington Sales in the '50s and converted by the first owner, I was the fourth. It was fitted with a 9.8litre engine from a bus and frequently ripped the x member from around the gearbox as it twisted in the chassis. Used to tow it to site on a solid bar behind a large tractor (Tax reasons) at lights I'd put it in first and push the tractor across the line!!! Great Tool.
  7. Good old Bedford TK series. Later badged up as AWD. I had 3 of the 4x4 versions which came in handy. They could stand for ages then fireup without any bother. I had one with a mid mounted winch we we hoped would replace the Matador when a friend had fitted a strong sub-chassis and a rear mounted Atlas crane. Project left unfinished in his yard about 10 years ago, probably covered in brambles now. The gearboxes were prone to getting nicked. I had three go in one night!!! Someone tried to tell me that they were sent abroad as they fitted a tank!?! Nice ride, it doesn't seemed to have suffered from the metal maggot yet.
  8. "Can you stack those logs in the back of the garage"? Whilst doing some fencing along a footpath a milf walks past with a couple of kids, one kid says "Why are they doing that"? Mum replies in a quiet voice, "because they've been naughty and the Judge has told them to"! "You've left bits of sawdust on my lawn"! Q "Do you have a big man from Huddersfield working for you"? A "The one with missing teeth and boxers eyebrows, yeh thats Mick, sound lad, please don't keep him talking he has another job to go to"
  9. Mr Ed's comment on personal debt is true, I've heard many a tale about people borrowing huge amounts on their credit card or on the knock because they want it now. Personally I apply the three mantras, Do I need it?, Can I afford it?, Can I get it cheaper elsewhere?. I'm not tight, but take a more sensibly view. After buying a house in '87 when mortagage rates were at 15.5% and the repayments on a borrowing of £35k were over £400 a month I soon left the "Have it now" crowd. I makes me very cross that these irresponsible lot (include the present government) are making the more prudent amongst us pay for their cock-ups.
  10. I used to have the Iveco 40.10 4x4 that went to George Walkers at Syston. They've since sold it on. Should have been about £30k back in mid 90's, but got it for under twenty. Slow on road, capable off road but with no real capacity. Looked the tool tho'.
  11. try the GreenMech 1928, far better than a 540.
  12. I generally do not get hangovers - I just feel monumentally tired. Years of practise seems to have cured the problem. 12 bottles of barley wine = 24 pints of beer in one sitting did make me feel a little tender for two days, even the hair could not fix it. A couple of good rules are; 1. Never on an empty belly. 2. Stick to the same poison. 3. A satchet of resolve before and after. 4. Plenty of vitamin C in the morning.
  13. In some ways, I would liken a GOT to an old fashioned (now extinct) "Brickies Labourer". Doing all the other work to enable the skilled to lay bricks and blocks. The more that got laid, the more pay the Brickies got - the more the Labourer got. All about piece rate. A good mate (and former groundie for me) kept three brickies busy and got paid a third more than me, the Boss of a tree surgery company. Same as climbers - some are good, some are mediocre and some ought to be encouraged to Sainsbury's to stack shelves. A good GOT is worth as much as a climber - I was a better groundy than climber and it worked well. I ran the business and kept the sites organised and the climbers were happy (I hope). Dont put them down unnecesssarily.
  14. Spell cheque dunt wurk!
  15. I think I would've gone home!
  16. Nice to see that the lead assesser for a prestigious organisation that leads this industry can spell!
  17. Good luck with the op. Here is too a speedy recovery. Best regards.
  18. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Trailers/ There you go!
  19. Someone asked me to sign another No10 petition. This one was to have some kind of legislation regards to trailers having regular official check overs, something on the lines of an MOT. On the one hand I agree having just found three out of four tyres with blebs on them but do we need another peice of bureacracy when common sense and self awareness is all that's needed. On a trip around the rep's patch today I counted more trailers with poor lights, then good. Missing number plates etc, poorly loaded units and one guy who definately had forgot that it was on the back of his Transit. What's your opinion. Test or no test?
  20. As I'm useless at house plants but can grow spidery legs on potatoes in the cupboard, I ought to have a go at Bonsai. I'm in - cheers Steve!
  21. Sausage, eggs, chips and beans. Possibly followed by a tin or two of Stella.
  22. Sorry to hear of your loss. I'll keep a watching brief on any PX deals, but to be honest, I'd not hold my breath on getting it back. Probably abroad already.
  23. If you put that on a 3 ton swing, I'd run and hide. Too small and not enough power through the standard aux circuit.
  24. Home grown new tates (cheers Mum), belly pork and rocket salad (Thanks again Mum). Might have a glass of wine to follow.
