  1. What ever you decide on, please consider what the resale value is going to be in years to come. I've come across so many people that have purchased "not so mainstream" machinery and then cannot find a buyer for it when they need to trade up. Have alook at the GreenMech website, there is a section that explains the difference between a chipper and a shredder and what they do. But, as others have said, by the sounds of it that a chipper could well suffice for most of your work.
  2. back up from a big outfit, yada yada yada......
  3. I glad to say I started out with buggar all and being the frugal chap, I've still got most of it left!
  4. Why not, I've always beleived that whilst trees have a high "amenity" value, they are also a crop which has to be maximised. Nobody moaned about the amount of timber that has been used to prop up the countryside in coalmines. Nobody has complained about the amount of wood going to bio-fuel.
  5. Hi Ed, you probably have seen them in France, but they are made in Belgium.
  6. Steve, morning. Hope all is well, like the new site. What happened to the thread "Favourite sayings"? I cannot find it and I fancey a laugh.

  7. I ought to post about the GMR 100, twice the price of the TW but more than twice the machine. Nuff said.
  8. Why do I get the feeling that if HSE was "around" forty years ago, we would be a real weedy, weaked knee'd bunch of risk averse pen pushers. I'm rather proud of the fact that I had a Matador on two wheels, had about 12 088, 084 and one 090 with a 6foot bar and they got used. No one got hurt because we were careful and aware. I take my two kids swimming every wednesday and have been instructed, by the young Lifeguard lady, not to be so rough with the kids. I not allowed to threw them in, duck them, make huge splashes, bomb, backward dive and they say the there is not a pool around with diving boards as they are dangerous. Forsooth! My ex-wife has moaned at the kids that I drive too fast. A friend has moaned that I work too hard for too long. Why moan if a competent old timer wants to start up his old 090 (many young guys could not carry it, let alone start it) and cross cut a stick. He enjoyed himself, enjoy his enjoyment.
  9. I ran one years ago. Should have been nigh on 30k, got it from Stormont Trucks @ Dartford for 18k including a spray job from white to red. Okay off road with a load on, fine on the highways (as long as you weren't in a rush). George Walkers had it after Barrowcliffs went bump. I heard that it got nicked from the guy they sold it to.
  10. Is it a road planer? possibly for a gypsum mine.
  11. 70 squid for that!, They got big windows there - seen you coming a mile orf! Fair Play tho' for spending that much on you partners 40th. Mine told me she wanted a divorce - so it cost me a hell of a lot more in the end.
  12. I'll change the avator on a regular basis for fun.
  13. Nigel Wright from GreenMech will be there!
  14. Once had to take a load of stuff on a demo tour of France and Spain. Filled the lorry up in the local garage, the lass says "your home late", I reply "Home late?, I am on a mission to Madrid"!, "Got your passport?" she enquires.:scared1:The 3 hours it took me to go home, get the document, then head for the ferry meant that every transport plan I'd organised was no chuffing good.
  15. Andrew, my thoughts and best wishes to you.
  16. Yeh, sounds true. Some of the pricing categories seemed fairly unquantifiable to me.
  17. A mate has asked me to post this thread. He is looking for authorised subbies in Scotland for a contract he is going to have a go at. PM me with your details and I'll pass them on.
  18. Sundays with the kids, roast Lamb, bike rides, walk up a big hill. Great stuff Sunday without kids. roast lamb and motor racing somewhere. Great Stuff
  19. I had an Alsation from the RSPCA. Great yard dog, always protected the house, kids leapt all over him and he enjoyed it. Superb hound. But My daughter had her face and head badly chewed by ex father in laws Lurcher. Hated that dog from the moment they took it in. (its was no good at Hare coursing).
  20. I can hardly think that the FC are losing out financially, nor that the collectors are really doing any damage so why waste valuable time and money putting legislation into place. Why not put a sign on all gates saying "Enter at your own risk" and "The FC is absolved off any blame if you hurt yourself gathering".
  21. Being a "shopkeeper" I'm quite often in the truck at 06:00 back home usually 19:30 - 20:00 Sometimes longer days, sometimes shorter. Once did 06:30 'til 10:30 following day, two hours sleep then out again 'til 17:30 that aft!

    bad news

So sad to end a life so unnecessarily. Condolences to all concerned. Is it about time that the educationalists focused on the full picture rather than getting kids thro the door and out rather than longer courses, placements and work experience?
  23. Sorry to admit it, but I had 17 years waggling live line rods about. Self trained, self assesed, did 99.9% live - only asked for a shut down 5 times. Only stopped doing it because another firm reckoned that they could more for less. Then EME had a change of policy. Story ended.
  24. Daughter is ten today so the house is full of birthday cd's. Mama Mia and High School Musical. Bah Humbug.
