  1. The "fell to view" issue is debatable in its merits. However, what galls me is that some pretentious buffon with aspirations to have a river view has purposely killed off an otherwise harmless tree because he did not get his own way. Was he a spoilt child or is he rebelling because he was not breast fed as a baby? The LA ought to demand that all of the residents of the site pay for some semi mature Tilia Euchlora be planted around the edges of the car park. That way the green issues of the site are dealt with and the spoilt, selfish vandals have an ongoing problem with the Lime tree goo all over their cars! Yet they still have their precious river view, then I would invite the EA to park their barges and kit in front of the flats along with some of the abandoned, half sunk boats that can be found on our waterways. Or am I being petty?
  2. The biggest selling point on the round blades is that they can be rotated to reveal a sharp edge, rather than having to swap blades for another set when the edge goes orf. The square blade still gives that option but is for those out there who think that "flat" edge blades are for them!
  3. The "QuadChip" thingy is that instead of the traditional circular blades that GreenMech have been using exclusively for the last 15 years. This is fitted with two square blades giving you four cutting edges to use. We could also fit round blades to it if you prefer those. The term "Muts nuts" has been used when discussing its chipping capabilities!
  4. If your near Saltex next week, there is another chance to see our brand new "QuadChip" woodchipper. 6x9 inch opening, brakes, turntable, under 750kgs with 34hp turbo diesel, awesome chipping capabilites, brilliant "throw", four sided straight edge blades and under £14,500 + vat. It can also be had with the Kubota 1505 engine if needed! Also on display is our full range of machines including a pretty awesome stand showing a 1928 SafeTrac and the MultiTask on a good slope. I'll post pictures sometime next week if I can.
  5. We'ev done a bagging cyclone for wood chippers and shredders. Either free standing on a big frame or bolted to the machine. Trouble is that your bags fill up rather quick.

    Losing keys

I have left a full set of keys (yard, house, trucks) on the bonnet of a Landrover once, they were still there after five miles. Twice now I've left my house keys in another vehicle to get home (60 miles) to realise what I've done and the neighbours (spare keys) were out the first time and in bed the next! Doh!
  7. Wow, what a hedge cutter. You'll get an extra three rows of carrots in when you've clean the mess up! Like it.
  8. I did it from '82 thro to '99 before going to GreenMech. Uncle Dave did it from late '40s thro to '87 and his Dad from before WW1 upto the late '60s whilst running the village post office. His Uncles taught him the game too!
  9. I thought of both the Nikon and the Canon. My independant guy told me that both were great cameras but don't bother with "Own make" lenses - too expensive, but the photo processing software for the Canon was far easier to use and in many respects better, although the Nikon camera had the slight edge. He did point out that if most of the work is on Auto, then the Canon was the better bet. I got Canon and it has been very good, easy to use and the software is more than complicated enough for me and a Sigma Macro/Zoom was reletively inexpensive. One rub is that the pictures are so massive, you have to fanny about when emailing them!
  10. Ring Nigel Fletcher at Fletcher Stewart. He sold it, he'll tell you all about it!
  11. Cracking idea for brash removal! Can you swap them for family tickets or adopt your own Giraffe?
  12. My Mum's dad was a sniper at Ypres and Passchendale but would not talk about his experiences, neither would his wife who was a nurse. My Dad's dad was injured in a tank accident in the Italian campaign and he is the same - doen't want to talk about it. My Dad was a pilot in the RAF for some 35 years and even now we get to find out some of the "different" stuff he was involved in and he admitted that it grates somewhat to be involved in all of that to see the sponging element of society with no morals or scruples who couldn't give a toss what others have been through to allow them those privelidges!
  13. I listened to a programme about Harry Patch on Radio 4 the other day. I agree with Andy. Rest in Peace Harry, you've earnt it.
  14. Are you also fitting a sticker that says "Powered by fairy dust" as well? What a bout some pink seat belt pads to stop them from hurting your shoulders?

    Sweet Sixteen

I understand Mike, that with the carb, manifold, headers and cam, it should be close to 195 but with big gobbits of torque. I might get it dyno'd for fun but I'm not fully happy with the gearbox, the bands may want adjusting again and I just have this feeling that there may an internal oil leak as some times the change is a little harsh. It's a standard torque convertor which is road spec rather than something the size of a pork pie which would give big revs before a change, therefore getting a higher output.
  16. If the weather is fine and the kids can put up with it, I'm off to the custom car show at Auckley Lakes at Doncaster this weekend.

    Sweet Sixteen

Mike, its well modded already, tho I'd like to get rid of the rust and change the colour and interior. It runs a narrowed Transit "I" beam front with Ford discs and Volvo shocks, Rover 3500 V8 with Offy 360 inlet and Holley 390cfm, tubular stainless headers married to Borg Warner 35 auto box and a Jag MK10 IRS rear end. Rear arches have been extended in steel to take the 295/50/15 tyres and the lip dropped to suit. It won "Best Car" at the '87 custom car show at Doncaster but the last few owners have left it outside so the metal maggot is gradually winning.
  18. Nice ride Nifty, I trying to get time to go there myself in Sweet Sixteen. But there is the Jones event and the National forest woodfair to consider as well as the my kids might be with me.

    Sweet Sixteen

    quick and loud!!!
  20. I'm almost tempted to bid myself. My V8 runs a holley 390cfm so a 500 is the dogs - but you do pay for it at the pumps!

    Sweet Sixteen

Finally got my Austin 16 thro the MOT (only just mind). There is something about a V8 burble, even better "on cam". Just got to save the fuel money now!
  22. Richard Court Forestry Engineering is the guy who sells them in the south of England. He's a good honest chap who knows his onions. Mobile 07966 546735. Don't expect a man in a suit and a smart showroom - excellent on the spanners and sensible to get on with.
  23. A few years ago I watched Nick Hilton of Woodwise slab an old oak butt at the Weald Woodfair and we remarked on the blue stain. As Nick slabbed off more we watched the stain grow until it ran with ink. He stopped and set about the area with wedges and axe and came out with a horse shoe that was minus the nail holes. It looked like a farrier had gone to shoe a hoss some 200 hundred years ago and hung this shoe on a low branch then forgot it! If found the usual gate hinges, shrapnel, musket balls and electricity wires in growing trees.
  24. What's long and thin, covered in skin, pink in parts and found in tarts? Rhuabarb!
  25. How do you get two whales in a mini? Down the M5 then turn west along the M4!
