  1. When my Hot Rod car had lost reverse gear, I drove it into the garage a bit too tight to the wall and then had to struggle to get out the car - I forgot that reverse wasn't there and I had to do some manouvering to get it in the right place. Doh!
  2. I ran a 414 in the early '80s. With crawler gear it could tush out some quite nice big sticks for the Matador to load at roadside. (perhaps it was the driver that was good!) Good luck with the sale.
  3. I heard a story about a manager with one of the major rial players. He emigrated and left the company car and his notice in short stay. The employer got a 'phone call saying can you collectthis car, it owes over a grand in fees! The employer wondered why he could not get hold of the employee!

    I can sympathise with both sides, but surely when you buy a used Landrover it is gonner come with some baggage! You behaved properly in that you did not hide anything and the buyer looked at everything, so, what is his problem, you took the right line and offered to cough for some bits but surely he cannot thjink he is getting away with it? Stick to your guns fella and don't send him owt or give in to owt! Good luck with the pregnancy, trying times for all.
  5. Blades to shear bar was a minimum of 2mm. Use high temp grease to grease the main rotor bearings, max 3 pumps per week. There are two nipples, one on the flange bearing and one between the rotor paddles. If you need any more help just ask. What is the serial number? Best regards

  8. Fair play to that and thanks for the response. I've asked the question at GreenMech but at the time both myself and the decision makers were too busy to have anything but the brief "Heads Up". Enquiriys are ongoing - I'll let you know, although it is a veritable nightmare as to who and how all the levels of regs are interpreted. I stand by a previous post saying that we all have our machinery checked out before coming to a decision to build.
  9. I know of a fellow who lengthened the drawbar on his trailer and had a GreenMech 220TMP on the P/U, He ran the tractor at 1000 speed at something like 1400 rpm and that was a sweet deal. Admittedly he had to unhitch the trailer to chip into it but that was a minor deal to him.
  10. I will make suitable enquiries as to what is what as this is turning into a case of "You say,I say". All I know is that JoBeau and GreenMech had all the rules and regs before them before we each made them. The HSE have been involved with GreenMech when we first bought in the GMR100 and there was a design change to satisfy all bodies before we sold the first one. Dillsue, I would appreciate knowing who you are and your role in life as you appear to be quite knowledgable. Are we to be party to that information?
  11. Ensure brakes are off and coupling is fully out, find adjuster on backplate and wind in until wheel will not rotate forwards, this ensures that both top and bottom shoe is correctly adjusted. Then back off the adjuster will you can just hear some "drag", if the adjuster is via a bolt head, a light tap with a hammer will help to "settle" things. Then adjust the cable lengths to suit so that all compensators are level. Then activate the handbrake a couple of times - then re-adjust. If you have a big energy store on the handbrake, then your lever should only come up half way. In the future just adjust at the drums, leave the cables alone. Remember that the height of the handbrake is a visual indicator on how good the brakes are. If the handle comes right up - they need attention.
  12. Thanks for that, very informative. I'll pass it on. I do believe, however, that the JoBeau and the GreenMech do comply as they come under a "reach distance" regulation which is stronger than the "height" regs. Do you agree?
  13. Oddly enough, the JoBeau, GreenMech CS100 and its for runner the GMR100 had all been put to the HSE for their approval. If they didn't comply, why would they still be on the market?

  15. A customer of mine mounted a GreenMech 220 in the bed of a road/rail 110. Interesting conversion which nobody likes to drive. If I can find the pictures I'll post them. It's not something that I'd recommend as a conversion and a suspended PTO driven machine would fair better.
  16. Diven't worry. We went thro a period where people wanted bigger woodchips, so for some time we were fitting machines with only one row of two blades. This worked well enough and it did not effect the balance of the rotor although it was a tad noisy when chipping some timber. We went back to two rows of two after a while when people told us that the noise pressure was an issue.   17. I rebuilt a 200tdi lump some years ago after a gudgeon pin "moved". I Had it re-lined and fitted new rings and pistons myself and chucked it back together using a Haynes as a reference. It went on for a few years then I swapped it but in that period it never burnt oil or missed a beat. It got to the stage where I could have a Landrover engine out in about 90 minutes! Good luck with the replacement.

  19. Your original post asks for a comparison between two totally different machines with very little in common. Read the thread from Shreks Wee Brother about micro chippers. That mainly deals with two very similar machines. BTW a CS100 is about £3,500 plus vat, call Jeremy Smithers on 07795 451159 if you want to see one going, he works out of the Soham office of CBL at times

  22. I respect your superior knowledge and you're very correct about the angles etc, but the logs have no brakes so don't they meet the Hoss now and again?
