  1. I heard this today from within the trade. I had the pleasure of supplying Nature First with some chippers and found martin and the rest of the staff very kind, courteous and knowledgable. Best regards to his family and the staff at Nature First, I'm sure he will be sadly missed. Far play to the man for doing an incredible journey for a worthy cause.
  2. I was offered a chunk of money for it by Dougie Bennet a while back for a double ended planker. (thats a saw - not Dougie) How would I stand flogging something with no chainbrake and inadeqaute AV system tho?

    Sales calls

Urmm.....those of us who sell stuff to folks like you are also trying to earn a living. I personally don't like the cold call 'phone technique but sometimes it has to be done. I prefer to go and knock on someones door and get face to face with them. You can soon tell if you are a pain in the arse and your apology for interrupting them does then carry some meaning. Outfits with an office are easy to get in front of, but you guys who run their business from home are harder to get in front of because your truck is you office during the day so sometimes we sales folk have to do the 'phone thing. I do agree tho with the tone of this thread and have got my home number recognised with the phone preference people.
  4. Blimey!, bin it and get a new one.
  5. I've got an 090 stuffed in the garage but I ain't heard of an 009. Probably cheaper to buy and new equivelent tho.
  6. Hi Ben, Fletchers still are the importers for the TS range of woodchippers so would be able to supply a new one or you could take it to Eddy George at Long Whatton and ask hime to fabricate a new one. Eddy used to do welding and fabricating bits for Barrowcliffs many years ago. Cheers.
  7. King! Just where did you dig that up from? Methinks you have too much time on your/in your hands!
  8. BTS have a shop in Needham Market.
  9. Sad news to loose a pioneer in the trade. Condolences to his family and friends.
  10. Defrosting here in North Leicestershire. Had some yesterday but that soon turned horrible due to the cold.
  11. I once put a deposit down on a new Landrover HiCap as there wasn't a 130 single cab pickup anywhere. I asked the dealer in Nottingham to do a round robin of LR stock and was told there wasn't one in stock anywhere. Two days later I saw one advertised in Stratford - the agent in Nottingham just said "Tuff, you've just lost 1700 quid". Needless to say I got the 130 and never went near the dealer in Nottingham again, and at that time I was after a 4.2LSE Range Rover as well. So he lost a bit more than that over the years!
  12. Blimey Lee! That must be some time ago, I did not even know that Wessex did them before we did. How long ago was that and how much were you quoted? We used to flog them for about £5,200 plus vat.
  13. Lee, when I said hydro drive, I meant that it was hydro static drive to the transpoprt wheels not the head. In all honesty they were a good grinder - but then what is so different from other small grinders. They all have an engine (mostly Kohler V2), most have an electric clutch and the same muscles to use them, they all have a couple of bearings and a dead man's handle. Some are heavier than others and there are a variety of cutters available from Patrick Watts 50p peice to sSandvik tips, greenteth etc etc. But they all do the same job.
  14. Shaggy, well done mate for entering and winning a prize on the Arbtalk Raffle 2009. I think you won the GreenMech Fleece and mug. PM me with you address etc and I'll get it sent out early next week.

    Cheers

  15. Nice one Lee, it reminded me of the fella I started in Overhead Lines with back in '82. He always sang this song.
  16. Well done! Could you ask the new owner to register it with GreenMech to avoid confusion in the future. Cheers.
  17. I thought the skidder a bit dear for an "off farm" machine.
  18. Click the link on the Danequip site, apparantly they do a good and narrow grinder
  19. I have heard of it being done, in fact I did a couple when I worked in the GreenMech service department some 10 years ago. The thing to be aware of is the gap between the rollers, some woodchippers have a "stop" to prevent the top hitting the bottom, if there is one then you can adjust the gap. If there ain't - you could end up with too big a gap between them for thin stuff. Generally speaking, as long as there is some kind of edge and the spring is in good nick then all should be okay.
  20. It was sold by GreenMech as the STM25-18, I preferred the hydro drive to the electric drive too. It was a good grinder with plenty of poke, with a slightly bigger cutting head with a couple of extra teeth. Narrow, but not too so that it was easy to tip over. The biggest shame was the Laski cutters were not the same hole centres as Vermeer or Rayco cutters which were plenty cheaper. Easy enough to get the head cross drilled to accept them tho'.
  21. Just fitted Kaspersky 2010 as recommended by the confuser supplier. Had previously had the Virgin package that that let a trojan or two thro'. The Virgin package is a homologated version of Kaspersky.
  22. I went to deliver a micro chipper north of Newark this morning, then spent the next 4 hours getting back to Nottingham pulling people up slopes only to find that there is no snow to speak of there or in Shepshed! (20 odd miles)
  23. This issue of "not pulling in" is often asked and it happens to all woodchippers with a "blow off" valve in the spool block. On a GreenMech it is set to blow off at 3000psi, if the spring in the valve looses a bit of tension, it will blow off at a lower psi. Get it checked and re-set then replace the big spring as they can also loose their "pull".
  24. Yes Alan and the Team at Beaver are good folk, yes they are now GreenMech dealers, yes they will still service and repair any make of chipper, yes the shop is good for kit and yes they gave up the Jensen thing as did many other dealers because of the pricing structure. No Steve Barnfather doesn't work there anymore and I try to help sales with "cold calling" (being a pain in the ass) when I'm in their area on their behalf! Also, was it widely known that..................................No, I should not repeat that as I cannot get B on the phone!!!!
