  1. Mac and Jason are the font of all knowledge, the giver of all that is wise, saviours of the broken chipper. Yes, they work for GreenMech.
  2. I asked a simikar question over driver cpc. I still get conflicting answers too. One lobby says "not needed as driving is not your work, and your vehicle is less than 3500kgs even though combined mass is more". The other group says that as "a tacho is fitted, you do need to complete the driver cpc!". Right confused.......
  3. Phone Mac or Jason in the morning. 01789 400044 and follow the instructions.

    Grillo Cultivator

I used to use a Howard Rotovator in my youth for doing my Boss's field. A hell of a lot easier than digging a large plot over. I see the size of the veg patch at my girlfriends parent's and think "When they ask me to do that - I'll invest in a two wheel tractor and cut n collect the grass and turn that in a few times pre-season to improve the clay ground a tad! Thanks for sharing - post a picture of your wonky ploughing too.

  6. Don't forget the free loan machine too! Bang Tidy!
  7. Don't you mean "Hoagies"?
  8. I was looking at buying my first in the late 80's after years of carrying brash about the East Midlands and huge bonfires in the yard or on site. The cost in those days was a very big issue for a struggling company so it was early 90's before I took the plunge with my first. Back then, Vermeer, The Mighty Rivett Chipper (Bandit), Turner 90 (Gandini), QuickChip (TS), Premier (Schiesling) and Arboreater were the machines that were freely available and mainstream. Other makes also included Dosko, Morbark, Jensen, Exenco and I even got an Asplundh brochure but don't recall seeing the machine. GreenMech started in 93 although they had been going for 30 years previously under the Turner name and rebadging Gandini. Timberwolf were starting up as well and the machines were becoming generally more available and commonplace. Some makes have stopped being imported as changes to the HSE spec make conversion expensive and, to be honest, the market place didn't really like them so things became financially unviable. A 6" QuickChip took my eye but was close on £7k more than a budget Arboreater. Michael Dalrymple delivered it at a cost of £12k, complete with spare blades and a quick talk on how to change the blades!
  9. Samsung 7" tablet starts to recharge, shows one battery section then screen goes blank! Is it hoosed and time to get a new thing? Is there a way of doing a "factory reset" to see if it can survive? What replacement would you recommend if I have to do that? (would go for 10" screen this time).
  10. One of the GreenMech rep's express had the Prodrive button, the driver said it was good towing a lump uphill!

    Kohler

Am I right in thinking that any Lombardini stockist are the Kohler people?
  12. Valves seem to go up and down the same amount and the valve springs etc seem to be in order. It smells like petrol and isnt oily like diesel. if it was a safety switch, there wouldn't be a spark. Fuel filter cleaned, hoses checked. Choke works. Occasional clunck from solenoid under tank and engine will not turn or turns slowly for maybe one cycle (as if battery weak or bad earth).
  13. The grief goes on! Took carb off, solenoid works and tube got a blow through. Valves appear to go up and down in the right sequence. Spark plug was wet and had a decent enough spark. Is there a timing belt? How is the camshaft driven? It is almost as if the timing was out! Any clues? The grass takes a lot of cutting with a walk behind!
  14. Rent one as and when needed or see about acquiring a rich benefactor! Contact Cambrian Plant in Cardiff....
  15. Surely not!?! Ian, you are a man of the world with a modicum of common sense - would you recommend a Landforce to the OP? What do you base your findings on? Chip dinner week after next?
  16. Now Ian, my recommendation would of course be GreenMech. The superior, British built machine!
  17. Id choose a main stream make that will have parts available, service back up from the supplier and something that would be worth more than its weight later on! Sorry to those that have them but, avoid it if you can.
  18. Log? Yes you do need to keep a comprehensive log if a vehicle is fitted with a tacho. I got a fine to prove that one!!!
  19. This doesn't apply to crewcabs though does it? So we are back to the point made by Pete Haines that I don't need a CPC for using my reps towtug CrewCab or the beaver tail. But I do need to keep reasonably extensive manual records of every days work/driving/rest times and destinations, along with start and finish mileage. And obey the working hours regs for tacho equipped vehicles?
  20. AAARGH..... Still not clear! Pete says only if over 3500, others say category of use, then category of licence held applies! I'm a rep. A machinery rep. I drive a crewcab towing a chipper. Sometimes I drive a 3500kg beaver tail which will carry one and drag one. Sometimes I use it for private use otherwise it is a tow tug! Do I need a CPC? I'm over 50 and have had a licence for 30 odd years but am ashamed to say, I don't know the law!
  21. I've had rooks of bother since September - one bit of advice I keep coming across is regularly turn off your phone and re-boot it and regularly check for updates! Keep it backed up to your PC and often do a factory reset.... That and have another mobile for standby when your main one doesn't work then you can call the network and supplier and get fed more BS! After a long time on hold or queuing for the next available operator.!!!
  22. Straight answers only please.... If you drive a crewcab or 3500kg beaver tail and it is fitted with a plastic card tacho - do you need to be a CPC holder? I know about keeping manual records as well as using the tacho but I get different reports on the CPC bit! Some say I need it and some say I don't! Others say "read this pile of BS from VOSA!" but that wouldn't get an award for simple and easy to understand!
  23. Errr....I think one criteria is to do with standard door width. Last time I looked, a TW125 or 150 was a tad too wide? Go with the CS100 - cracking tool! But then, I am biased slightly.
  24. Isn't BDM hire are spin off from Predator anyhow?
  25. Anyone done anything like this with twin steer? Looks a tool Dean, do you still use Blooms to haul for you?
