  1. Had similar some one saying tree across the road on a call out, got all kitted up got there and it was a branch. The person could have picked it up and moved it his self. The thing about it was it was 3 in the morning
  2. Reducing big conifier hedge, customer watching you most of the day. Finished tidying up the cusomer comes over and says " Can you just take a few more inches of please. Yes inches not feet, I couldn't help but laugh but they were serious. I did ask if they were joking.
  3. I've had a slipped disc, very painful. They recommend not to stop work as it will make it worse, but to lighten your work load. I had to go down to a three day week, But mine was also operated on the disc was trapping my nerve making my leg go numb (not a good feeling when your climbing). I also started going to physio first which helped alot. I think you could make it worse all it needs is being in a funny angle and it could go. Just be careful. It's like Andy said "What do you do if you have a family to support" . I do wife and two kids, it's harder because it's not just about you, Did i act to late or to much pressure , But all i know i've been off a year and more likely the rest of this year too so act sooner rather than later. Like you and proberly everyone else i loved my job not qualified to do anything else what else can you do, if you get told "ever thought of a new career". I know i might be rambling on abit but it's always better to be safe than sorry.
  4. I wonder what the tree officers comment would be if he found out. E-mail the pic to him, there's so many people getting away with this type of thing and then the public will winge at the tree surgeons because there taking it down. I thought most trees have a tpo on them near shops and on verges. They are were i am.
  5. speechless, People like that should be castrated. I would say tree owner for getting the landscapers into do it in the first place. Also the landscaper (if you could call them that) should have advised them against it in the first place, instead of trying to earn a quick buck.. Would the tree officer no about it?? as it's privately owned.
  6. this will let you know i think, if anyone is intrested. cs45_arboricultural_ground_worker_as_oct06[1].pdf
  7. I found it, It's similar to the one in the link i posted.
  8. Thanks for the heads up, I know how your brother feels I've been on several painkillers for the last 6mths or so and these only seem to be the ones that do anything. I think your body builds up a tolerance to them. Waiting for another op on shoulder this time, so i'll be on them proberly the rest of the year.
  9. Very impressive, It's also nice to see climber and grounds team work so well together rare imo. I'm not as experienced as some people on this site to comment much but alot learnt and understood. Ian
  10. I know in sweden they put mot s on trailers, If not you can only travel 20mph everywhere. Test is good sometimes you forget about checking things. suppose test is better than a fine and points for a bold tyre. There are some dangerous looking trailers about tho.
  11. If you could send it would be good, What's the best for you cheque? I'll be out of action for the rest of the year probably anyway. Oh by the way the catheter is not nice when they take it out they pull out about a foot of tubeing.
  12. Justin, I've Had a Lumber discectomy a few months back. It was to remove part of my disk it was pressing against my nerve making my leg numb towards the end i was peeing myself no control over it. Was ment to be in Hospital for a week but couldn't cope ( they were crap). So Got out in 3/4 days Lots of pain killers. I was out of action for about 2 mths bored out of my mind, Had to have a raised toilet seat and a funky chair. Was only aloud to sit down for 20mins at a time other wise it's led down or stood up. couldn't do anything for ages, the painkillers i have are Tramadol 50mg/500 2 four times a day work well with paracitamol too. Don't have co dydromol they will bung you up for weeks. The morpine was good at hospital self medicate:stickyman: going good now a few twinges now and again, Doing physio at the mo. Thats why i'm selling me harness. I've got to look forward to it all again when they operate on my shoulder:sad: Anyway good luck for the op:thumbup1: Hope it goes well, Ian
  13. http://www.norwoodindustries.com/product.aspx?prodID=1037&cID=1005 This is what i meant link above, Used to use it in hard to get places and instead of big machinery. Keeps forest/wood looking nice. We Had a bigger version with a few mods. Ian
  14. Robinia:thumbdown: , Hawthorne got one of those spikes in my leg before that with chainsaw trousers on, hurt for weeks:sad:
  15. Might sound silly but I've used a big stainless steel hinge before to fell over a river to make a natural bridge. Also aided by a modified jack to help push it over leaving a large hinge. (can't remember the name of the jack thingy). Ian:thumbup1:
  16. The gamekeepers do have alot of say, Like you said it mostly comes down to what generates the most money. We got told we could coppice sweet chestnut by someone and next minute the gamekeeper finds out and then all stopped.
  17. I think i've done it right , Here is some trimming pics.
  18. I'm currently trying to price up a job to make some plaques 75cm square out of oak or chestnut, The thing is they need to fixed to trees about 10ft high so vandels don't destroy them (It's in a park). What is a safe way to fix to a tree that will last approx 10 years and stretches with the growth of the tree. Any advice or links would be great , Ian
  19. I went yesterday gave justin my harness to sell. I did save £500 pound to spend, But a few days ago my car started playing up and it ended up costing me £477 to fix:thumbdown:. Once i payed to get in i'd be lucky if i could get a karibiner. Best start saving for the other show .
  20. I think NPTC is a good start , most employers won't give you a lookin without the basic tickets. Maybe there to expensive who knows. It's also finding a decent employer who will point you in the right direction, not just to do it yourself. Knowledge should be shared, it's no use to you when your dead. It's only my opinion.
  21. Im the same i get 3-4hrs sleep a night. Over active mind can't shut down had it for at least 10 years feel rough in the mornings tho.
  22. Just got back from hols. Silky arrived cheers Justin.
  23. Hmm what shall I do , back up or sell. Haven't climbed for a while now due to back op and trying out a new harness will be difficult due too can't lift left arm past 45 degrees(waiting for other op). Decisions decisions . consultant says look for new career I had to laugh.
