  1. From experience I would just refurb/replace the lot! Trying to remove bolts from a worn roller that has never been changed is a nightmare, you might as well replace the rest of the assembly as they do break/wear out eventually. If you have the patience and a thread tapping set it may be worth it to save a few pound though but didn't think the cost of a whole kit bushes and all was well out of the way.
  2. Would not waste my time in doing any thing other than a pro sharpen and teeth check , definitely worth it.
  3. Elm looks really nice timber👍🏻
  4. Have a couple of each, as usual with stihl it has the slower pick up and possibly more torque where as the 550 is just a rev up and go Ferrari of snedding saws. Both have given no real issues with the 261's being absolutely smashed on sitka regen clearance when new and they still keep on going, I think they have had there needle bearings replaced once ! One of the other lads had a crank go within weeks with the261 and countless bearings and would never buy another ..... I would choose the husky the other operator would again replace with 261 so pick one up and see which you like better.
  5. Aye it's not about dragging brash!! in my first year all I did was ground and just climbed in my spare time and that pretty much set me for my career, watching those 3 full time climbers and occasional subby I learnt more of how to do and not how to do tree work than at any other point in my career.
  6. Ballsy fell that Don , proper stunt fell. Nice work on the sledge bill 👍🏻
  7. Back then Mick you had to do the 10 week course to get on the NC or ND course if you had no experience, there was a few lads doing the NC back then who had to do that, there ten week course was a good course back then and probably still is ,you had good tutors and learnt a lot.
  8. Really Mick? When I enrolled on mine the requirement was a minimum of 6 months work experience or a previous related course I seem to remember.
  9. Of course
  10. He's spot on though.
  11. That's running a business I'm afraid , probably one of the biggest battles.. Plenty of folks who have done there college stint and can talk the talk then instantly trip over when it it comes to walking the walk. Folks need a chance I know for sure ,but baby sitting to give them an opportunity to train them up and then watch them leave when they feel they have got to a good level and are worth even more money is what happens next.
  12. I think as the Lithuanian guy said above the logs are stacked for import, obviously in the countries that importing them the mark up is that great for them and the labour so cheap it's viable... in this country though it would be absolutely ridiculous the over heads are enough with out the cost of an extra 20 mins stacking per cubic metre.

Turn up the oil pump to the max.
  14. Nice vid , winch looked a beast!
  15. To the OP... you have no idea of the source of these logs, they could be from ancient and protected illegally logged sources and as Kevin pointed out there is the biohazard slave labour issues. Seriously if you can't use a computer as you have done to write this rant in the first place to find sustainable verified dried and accurately measured UK logs then your not looking hard enough and if you have spent the last 20 years buying cheap beer money logs that have been dragged from under a damp hedge and are frustrated then you have no sympathy from me...
  16. Cheers again Steve , must not be much fun spending your weekends emailing and sending out msgs !
  17. Have tried both on the geckos prefer the American though. Pretty sure they are standard on most spikes for a reason.
  18. I think " all trees looped topped and felled ask driver for details" sounds better than crowned.
  19. Looking good bill , it was up in north Tyne on the way to keilder .. near the holy bush
  20. Cheers , winter work in Spain sounds good I was in Barcelona in march a few years back and was getting sun burnt ! Just conventional cuts Darin , hum bolt may have worked better but they didn't spring back so all was good. Just spent Last 3 days on rody clearance along this stream at a Buddhist retreat... spec was to clear the ravine bottom and sides but we still needed to clear an area to get the alpine and winch to extract to along the top bank... glad it's the weekend now! Before And after Demanding on the machines but only chucked a track once.
  21. Nice work especially with the tools at hand , quit jealous you can do tree work in Spain I've looked in to it and it seemed almost impossible! I had one of those little oleo macs years back though and thought it was a great little saw.. I would get another to try but spares where a nightmare in the uk... I had to go back to the yard to get a 395 to flop this ashes top outs last week we where monolithing as I was too chicken to do the second stem on the 576, some thing about standing on spikes with a few tonne over you with no where to go unnerves you .
  22. Tried putting wader studs in but they didn't last ! Still handy though and there's cheap ones in packets of 40 on eBay.
  23. Bottom of the carb looks a different mount for the filter , I just put a HD on a 576 and it was very simple this looks a bit more of a challenge !
  24. https://www.diyspareparts.com/parts/husqvarna/diagrams/2003-119/793/ Should be all on this page.
  25. Don't really want to say mate.
