  1. Georgio - 128ft is believable. Done a couple myself at that height. My Crane comment was purely my opinion - I was'nt there, so it was'nt my decision to make. Great display of skill on your part though.
  2. You need more than Beer money for preparing the management plan mate. Thats pretty serious business, and it needs to be good for HLS.
  3. Farmi 260HF is the best value for performance machine out there. HOWEVER - one of the members on here Shreks Wee Brother has a very nice TP250 for sale, that would be my recomendation. As for pulling a trailer, you need a special drawbar building to go under the chipper.

    E bay troubles

Ive had the same problem many times Rupe. Ebay software is full of glitches and problems, there was an article I read recently about it. Just might have to keep trying.
  5. Cool. I went to Columbus, Ohio a few years ago. I like it being indoors.
  6. not many people these days can cook with solid fuel. We have a bosky that provides all our hot water and heat, and a bit of cooking. Works well for slow roasting joints, that kind of thing.
  7. Yes... and no. Condensing Gas boilers are very advanced, recovering waste heat from the exhaust etc, maximising the calorific value of the fuel. However, thats because gas boiler technology has had lots of money invested into it. Modern wood pellet boilers are now seeing the same kind of efficiency's, with some so good they can use a plastic pipe as a chimney. They can also be set to fire up or switch off on a programmer just like a gas boiler. In fact, one of the most inefficient means of heating is a combi (or on-demand) type of gas boiler. But I appreciate that you were talking about logs. I just wanted to give a bit more info on modern wood combustion technology
  8. Best winch we've ever had on a 4x4, although ours were the older fairey winch.

Haha. The BEST bit is 5 minutes later... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksMydLGN1oc]YouTube - Bren gun scene from Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels[/ame]
  10. I want the same for my machine, but have been quoted £2K. I have a timber grab and rotator, but that kind of grab is great for raking up roots etc. Just make sure they make it opposite ways to normal, with the 3 tines on top, rather than underneath.
  11. Thats the stuff. Its good to keep opportunists out, but determined theives will crop their way through.
  12. Priced up the plastic coated wire mesh mate? far cheaper, and very effective security fencing.
  13. Thats about right Dean. Installed price on new pallisade can be upwards of £100 a meter
  14. I am LOLing at this. I shall LOL even harder at your first claim. Does your 'healthy' approach include a written risk assesment and a health and safety policy? I think you might find the Environment agancy dissagree with you on this one. Still, Its a minor point compared to not having insurance cover.
  15. No mate, its all good. It's been posted quite few times now though, and stuff like that is better in the 'lounge' area.
  16. Gosh. Not seen that one before.
  17. Where did the grapple skidder come from?

Another clip from blade runner. 'why did it feel like I'd just shot a woman in the back?' [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiCnEmmq27I]YouTube - Blade Runner (shooting scene)[/ame]

Nice one Mesterh. That is probably the best ever scene of any film. Certainly my favourite.
  20. My post is not meant to denigrate the obvious skill shown in the video, of that there is no doubt. Its just I've done a few of these, and I dislike endless slabbing down of short lumps on ropes.
  21. Meant to put that in my first post, very good point. My dining table is made from sequoia, very nice timber.
  22. There was a road right below the site. I would have got a road closure, put a 100 tonne crane in and been done in a day. A long time ago, I did a very similar tree a 130" high sempivirens, in a very similar steep roadside situation. With a 35 tonne crane cribbed up on the road, we had it down in 2 hours. ( must scan the pics I have of that job) And I dont think slabbing a tree of that size down in such small blocks is particularly efficient.
  23. I thought the same Mario, did'nt look 150" to me. I must be cynical, because I did'nt find it particularly impressive, just looked like lots of backbreaking work. I would have insisted on a crane, and brought it down in merchantable lengths.
  24. If you search back, I put up the video about 12 months ago. It is a fascinating lecture, and the mushroom bursting open the ants head was great
