  1. If you are not force seasoning, such as in a poly tunnel or kiln, any weather is good for the logs to be exposed to, with the exception of rain of course.
  2. I think Alan is usually shrude enough to have insurance in place, but unfortunately if his premiums go up as a result of claims from less than careful hirers, it will be such as me who get hired in insurance, that it will be passed on to.
  3. Outside in open sided crates with cover over the top is best.
  4. Looks like a few balls of band were salvaged!
  5. The "problem" is you wont find out if there is one until you stick a saw in them! Its not how they feel, the speed you dry them, or even if they shrink! They are part of your PPE and it says "Do not tumble dry"!
  6. Looked at them but whats the set up with one thats not down rated, do you not need an "O" license?
  7. Same here, its not a bad policy following the initial outlay. You always have a clean pair to put on if you get blathered, and they last twice as long too:thumbup:
  8. Ok, the reason I asked for close ups was, I actually built one similar over xmas but somehow Ive not managed to get the angles quite right where the saw connects to the bench. Mine is a static table unlike your belt but sliding the log along is not hard as the maximum I put through is approx 10". The problem with mine is where I have it "hinged" on the table, the back handle of the saw is low down when you start the cut and is hard work on the back. NOT good for me! If I lift the saw pivot higher, the handle seems uncomfortably high when finishing the cut. My attachment of saw to bench is slightly different too and not sure if it adds to my problem, but I have the bar pinched in a clamp, a bit like the ones on an alaskan mill. This clamp is part of the hinge. I may be able to get pics tomorrow if the weather allows.
  9. Ok Ged, Im giving you a chance here to step up. I realise sometimes new members here can get a tough time when they voice strong opinions straight away. So come on, give me some reassurance that the timber you use is untreated, and more importantly give me an idea how much your kindling would be. Say if I collected a load of 300 nets from you. I am not interested in how efficient your process is either.
  10. Washing them is not a good idea to start with, and I believe they should only have a handfull of washes per lifetime. All the tumbling round and round doesnt do them any good. Sure there was a thread about how it affected the fibres a while back.
  11. Very nice work. I like the idea of using an old conveyor. Have you any close-ups of how the saw is attached/swings on the frame?
  12. It tells you when you try sending it. Wel thats what has always happened to me.
  13. Huddersfield usually:001_tt2:
  14. Out of curiosity, how do you find the hardwood kindling goes compared to softwood. Are there any advantages?
  15. Dean, if its No 7 its definately oil pressure. Weren't Nos 1 or 2 on though? Should have been if oil pressure light was on. Going from memory, here's a few I know; No4; eng oil temp No5; hyd oil temp No6; hyd oil pressure No7; eng oil pressure No8; High beam No9; Charge No10; engine air filter No11; hyd oil filter Hope that helps Dean, been a few sleeps since i was on a mechanical horse!
  16. Been watching too Lorry but not commented so far. Always a worrying time when they just have the flu, let alone something like this. Nice to see improvements, but you and the missus should take credit for your actions. Be proud of yourselves and celebrate, you deserve it. All the best to all of you mate. Pete.
  17. Think I would be training them horses a little about dragging timber and sod the connies in B'ham! Firewood heaven:thumbup1:
  18. Thats why you are run off your feet fella, get the price up to reality. You will earn more money without the graft.
  19. He he, it can do that, easily:thumbup:
  20. I have neighbours where one of them is reg disabled due to yuppie flue. They have a nice new big volvo as a disability car, but he never uses it. His partner travels the country in it, using it for work, stays away for long periods with it and the disabled fella gets a lift from family when needed even using public transport, gets the shopping delivered, chemists do the free delivery and still boasts going abroad on holiday every month of last year. I wonder does he really qualify for a disability car? I just love the feeling of starting the V8 going for a needless blast at 10mpg in it and return knowing I earned every penny of my jolly out. It does disturb the tranquility of the neighbourhood a little too:thumbup1:
  21. The VAT thing is throwing things out of proportion IMO. Its all the secondary rises that have a bigger effect, the VAT increase is just the bit hitting the news at the moment. Jon simply asked if people were putting up prices, thats all. If you are VAT reg or not, costs are rising. It also makes very little difference to me how much VAT is as Im not reg'd, I look at what my costs are. I dont care how much of it my supplier has donated to the government, his brothel or his pooch parlor for that matter. Its the amount he bills me for, total. Therefore if that amount has gone up, It puts my costs up regardless of why. Therefore I pass it on
  22. This time next year it will be over £2/liter. No mocking here.
  23. I got flu and a chest infection:thumbdown:
