  1. Cheers Treewolf, my size is 235/85 16 but thanks anyway:thumbup1: If by any chance yours are right size Steve, I would be very appreciative, in a beer token kind of way:thumbup:
  2. Good to hear from you Pete, I really would like to see yours in action sometime, sounds immense.
  3. If only I could find an old tread BFG MT! I have 3 very good ones but struggling to find a fourth to make the set. The best all time MT tyre ever made IMO.
  4. 3120 sounds scary! Tomorrow will be a decision day Chris, I may end up with a 560 yet:sneaky2:

    poor pay

I was keeping out of this, but I feel you have missed the point! Starting a thread like this is acceptable when its put up for open discussion, whereas, I personally feel there is a problem when someone starts a thread offering work and plenty of folk jump in to criticize the terms offered, and yet are not in the market themselves. Perhaps in future if people dont agree with the state of the industry, a thread should be started, not totally derail the good will of the individual opportunities being offered to those looking for work
  6. Very interesting costings, and possibly a different way of looking at it. I think there are possibly two ways of justifying the majority of firewood production. There are those who depend on it as a main income and those who run firewood as a sideline because "they might aswell". I guess I fall into the latter one, as we are primerily tree surgeons and have the opportunity to use arisings from treework and turn them into a job when its quiet, wet etc. Those however who depend on firewood as a main income need to sharpen the pencil more I guess. Im in the fortunate position to make firewood pay and be worthwhile doing without over complicating things. Having said that, although our timber is "free", the costings are very different and production is more labour intensive than say someone buying in nice straight cordwood putting 20+ cube per day through a processor with one man.
  7. Haha, its not the 361 you need to worry about Chris, its the 360! Its now running .325 16" bar and 9 pin:scared1: Sounds great then, Im looking into a 560 and obviously I like to tinker when they are out of warranty, so, as long as the auto tune has the parimeters to cope with a saw thats breathing more than standard we are on a go:thumbup:
  8. Nice one to have Ian, well done.
  9. As title really, just curious as to any thoughts on the "new generation" saws abilities to have even basic muffler mods? With all the sealed up carbs, auto tune tune etc is it the beginning of the end for saw modding, or does it mean the modding technology needs to move with the times for us to keep getting "the buzz"?
  10. Can't beat the dare devil stunt Mark, but bet I could beat that midrift you got going on there mate:thumbup:
  11. That depends how good your trailer brakes are IMO. If your being "pushed" by the load on your trailer, its brakes are either not upto the job or are in need of attention.
  12. On the drive I have a transit and 2x td5 defenders that all work hard, a 110 V8 petrol and a 3.0l quattro A6. An average over 20mpg is nothing less than a dream for any of them:thumbup:
  13. We have had several trips from ours, both plain and vented. Some of the plain ones are 4 years old now and only lost a few of them now. Not sure the vented will last as long though.
  14. I get all mine from MCA but wont be getting any more vented. In comparison to standard tote bags they are not as strong, seem to "flop" when in transit/handling and are twice the money. Will only be buying standard bags from now on and cutting "windows" in sides and base:thumbup1: PS, negative comments not pointed at MCA, they are spot on, just the whole vented theory doesn't work well for me.
  15. Cheers for that, we call them Dollies:thumbup: Used them on dutch light houses but never on tunnels.
  16. Is it full skip you have? Most available is semi, but if it is full it should run upto 3 foot with that saw. Getting a bar for it at that size is likely to be the expensive part though. If this is a one off, can you not borrow a big saw, or even get someone in to do it for you?
  17. Yes. I usally sell over 100 cube a year. In some eyes that maybe classed as playing at firewood, but Im a tree surgeon that does firewood as a secondary basis for wet days etc, and to turn arb waste into product. I do intend to supply a high end product though, so charge accordingly for the premium quality. In 900mm bags laid out singly, I can get 150 bags in easily. I dare say if I stacked 2 high 250 would be easy to acheive. Not sure what you mean by tiers? Its guaranteed for 5 years, upto 10 is possible but I will be happy with 7. If you mean for the poly tunnel, it cost a total of £620. This was for new plastic and second hand steelwork. Labour costs of £600 to erect. If on a lifespan of only 5 years(plastic only of course) say £250 per annum. If there were only 100 cube per year, at £2.50 per cube I can accept that considering the benifits associated with solar kilning. I have not worked out costs for producing the product recently. Totally agree, thats why its working for me and possibly will do even if I did say 500 cube a year, but doubling the cost of investment doesnt mean doubling of profit. Sorry mate, got a bit burned out by this point, and I have had wine! Lol!
  18. They are 27foot hoops, spaced at 8 feet, 12 bays long. I think its around 12 feet high. We usually split outside(unless its raining) straight into bags on pallets and put in the tunnel with a small tractor with forks on the rear. When it comes to delivery we pick them up with front end loader tractor straight into truck/trailer. The hoops/doorway is high enough for access with a medium sized tractor with a cab on. Although its nearly 100foot long, circulation is good with no doors on, and acheives 16% M.C. in one summer on hardwoods.
  19. Here's mine, its cheeper to set up, free to run, greener, and much bigger!
