  1. Yep, can see clearly here. I think the graining will be facinating when finished. Here's some big blanks from another nearby tree; .
  2. Must be something wrong with your eyesight! Its HUGE! Here's an even bigger one I sold a few years back; .
  3. 10% reduction will not initiate retrenchment on cedar. Bracing possible?
  4. Ok, so I guess comparisons possibly shouldn't be made between the two mechanisms, BUT, they will be. So, from my point, although my amount of climbing time is much reduced to how it used to be, I still do bits and pieces. Therefore, the plus points I see in this HH is that there is no tether. I can only see an issue with having to deal constantly with this, being cumbersome and generally getting in the way. One point I can see is that the RW rides higher in the set up due to being above the hitch, therefore a good chance of being smacked in the face by it, if, for instance you were to stand on a branch without advancing. Perhaps those with experience of the RW may be able to throw light on the differences, as, as yet I have not made a decision for the way forward for me yet, although the HH mechanism is ticking the boxes for me so far, as an aid to an ageing, overweight grumpy. Very interested in your feedback Pete.
  5. If you are talking of anything over 9" and dont mind dragging a lump around, you'll struggle to beat a vermeer. Oh, possibly with the exception of a bandit
  6. Very sad, a mountain of a guy. I did hear a story years ago, he first started life as a street fighter and was head hunted to star as an extra purely because of his size. The rest was history as they say. RIP
  7. Done that before on more than one occasion! Sure gets some funny looks, but it will get you home:thumbup:
  8. Like Chris here, around 9". Never been asked for bigger, but occasionally get asked for granny logs.
  9. I never climb in the rain- too horrible. If rain is forecast and the jobs booked in- subbie climbs. Simple!
  10. Lots of variables, can depend dramatically on area, but also jobs you are taking on, size of chipper etc, etc. There have been lots of threads done on this, and the general results varied between £250 and £800 a day.
  11. Sounds like a bit of a contradiction if I understand you right? If you intend bolting the subframe on the 130 using the same points, it will overhang the axle the same amout, therefore making very little difference to the axle loading. Also given the 130 chassis is heavier, you may even be worse off. In theory the gap behind the cab should be 20 inches. You are correct though, in thinking the 130 will carry better(axle loading), but the load needs to be nearer the front. Having the gap, or toolbox behind the cab does not help this. In reality you are looking for a new box to overcome your problem if a 130 is the way you are thinking. Hope that makes sense, and I think my understanding is correct:001_huh:
  12. They've done similar here too. I wonder if all the ones we have taken down would have flushed up too?
  13. Just to clarify, the Tories did win. Im not saying I agree with the coalition idea, BUT, the Tories did get the most votes, and therefore there is a Tory prime minister. Only in politics should you need a given size majority before anyone wins!
  14. Yep, that goes for every gpvernment I guess, but I get your point. "We" as a nation vote them in, but sometimes I feel whatever party gets "in" they are immediately shot down, accused of allsorts, ans sometimes distracted from the job. Perhaps a case of in a perfect world, but wouldn't it be nice, if once they are voted in, they are fully supported. Then after their term "we" can vote again! Would be especially helpful given the current climate instead of wasting time bickering. Wasn't meaning you in particular Steve, its just been hammered down our throats (I actually blame the media for a lot of the worry and caution spread accross the country, but that's another one!) for so long now but in fact the recession is over now as things have been stable for a while now. Guess its turned into a term people are using to describe the new harder times. In reality we should just accept its the new "norm".
  15. I feel people need to stop calling the present situation the "recession", stop moaning about the state of the economy, and just face up to facts, this is how its going to be for the foreseeable, we will see more tax rises, higher consumer prices, folk out of work & businesses struggling to survive. The wonder years like 10 years ago have gone for long time yet.
  16. One could always comment that the tories wouldn't have to be so unpopular by imposing higher taxes, had they not been left with such a mess when they got into power... Like it or not, regardless who is in power there are many years of higher taxes to come.
  17. Go over your accountants head then, ask the VAT man
  18. Ian, I've only just found this thread and am totally gutted. The reason being, we actually drove past norwich today! If only I had opened my eyes earlier we could have called in. All the same, looks like it was a great time for all there, the heat has been a killer today though!
  19. I have used a lefty Husq 61 years ago. Was bought specially from Sweden in early '80's
  20. Very good. In the right place it makes sense:thumbup1:
