So, in theory, do you think it would be possible in such as Marks case to have "Durham county logs" go into a job do the cutting, then "Mark Bloggs" go in with his private hgv to carry out the timber for his personal use of firewood?

Here's mine. After years of using cheap tosh, I chipped out and have not regretted it a bit. I have size 48 (14 UK) have worn them almost every day for two years (even on holiday, walking & trekking around, weekends etc) and they are still waterproof. I could be interested at the right money for milling, if you decide to sell. They are numb to use, not to current HSE, and not used that often in tree work any more, but are a good lugging saw, ideal for the mill. Cant help you on the cross over with 880 though.

I've had one for about 3 years now, and even a big bird like me hasn't loosened them off yet! Only thing I've found is, as Rich says, its not the most comfy harness!

Ok, in that case, if some kind of loader is out of the equasion, so are big bags. If I were you, I'd go along with any of the suggested options that have been offered for making "pies" of logs, be it harris fence, stock netting, pallets or what ever to create walls of the pies with false floor to keep them aloft. Mostly with the intension of selling bulk(assuming you can deliver bulk), although it means double handling this will be short term if its viable to go into in a bigger way in the future. If you make the pies in reasonable sizes, but not too big so it takes weeks to fill one, then when it comes to sell, you know all the logs in that one pie are seasoned together. Another thing you may want to try, is fill some small nets(the sprout net type) as you split. You can stack these and cover them as with the pies and will cut down on handling later if you can sell some small bags. Be careful though, as these net types usually perish quickly so dont try hanging on to them 'till the next season, they will fall apart.

So Dr, give us a bit more info. How much are you intending to do, is it for profit, yourself, do you have a budget, etc, etc.

Often the "Norris Coles" of the world do have a good point, afterall, its likely you are causing him a nuisance. I dare say if "his" dog left a nuisance in your garden you would complain, so why are you aloud to cause it in his garden?

I'd say looking at the basic box in their pics, its not bad for the money. Spending that amount of coin on a steel one is a waste in my opinion.

Just seen you're talking of a lwb tranny. I'd stay well clear of steel! By the time its built, carrying a couple of blokes and some kit, the payload will be less than 500kgs. Any clues how much TGS would quote for one of theirs, look tidy?

Make walls out of pallets, fill with logs (slightly heaped) and cover top with tarp before winter. (water will run off due to heaping in center yet air will flow very freely)

Do half now, the other half in a year, you'll have the answer! Lol! Seriously, I wouldnt dare leave oak rings to dry out, especially if splitting by hand!
