  1. I wouldn't have even involved the Tree Officer, I would have just taken pictures and done the work. Nobody will disagree with you on that Dean it's fooked.

    bad news

Dave's funeral is today RIP mate.
  3. I thought it was a dig at Steve:001_tongue:
  4. 64 cubic feet now convert that to cubic metres with an online calculator. 1.8m3
  5. Scott and co. are quite correct there is no legal defintion of a garden. If you used the garden as an angle you could argue a 500ha estate in scotland was a garden ! I've often said to the FC that a garden based tree removal situation is a failed crop and then re-stocking often isn't an issue. The other issue to bear in mind is that if the FC and TO aren't interested the EA often is so to summarise get everything in place it isn't worth the rick Ben.
  6. Who are you working for in Surrey mate, that used to be my stamping ground until recently. I'd echo the advise above a big gob and small sap wood cuts pretty much will allways work. I've never had a barber chair up a tree and i've taken some huge top out in the middle of woods on some jobs.
  7. I doubt it mate, as i said i haven't seen it but they want to get rid and i have the contacts to get rid lol He doesn't want me to chip it with firewood prices as high as they are.
  8. I made a contact today in the Warwick area who has firewood for sale by the wagon load in 2mtr lengths. I haven't seen it yet but if anyone wants the details i'll pass on his no. to the first 4 people that pm me as i don't want to inundate him with calls when i'm trying to do business with them myself !
  9. I disagree Ben, If you take 2mtrs of every branch the tree will have exactly the same crown shape just smaller. This is how I did all my reductions. As soon as you start trying to "improve" the shape of the tree that leads to the scenario you suggest. I to prefer reduction via thinning it's just hard to convince the client lol !

    bad news

This guy was a friend of Anna's. I,m not going to ellaborate on the facts because it's not my place. Very sad news and yes he was newly qualified past the 10 week at Merrist Wood back in July but he was no fool. A tragic accident
  11. One of our sites down south where we produce G30 spec chip with a low moisture content for small scale heating plants....
  12. I've had one of Honey's for a similar price about 2 years ago....
  13. I use poplar kindling on my fires all the time as it's free
  14. A few pics off my phone. 6 Wagon loads of chip from 11 poplars and a a couple of willows. Ben and Steve and their team did a good job an hopefully all was completed to the clients satisfaction.
  15. Ben I have alot of experience at this sort of work. Arrange a site meeting and get every thing agreed on spec and written down or at least some marking on the ground to avoid your fingers being burned. If it's local to you give me a bell I'll happily walk the site with you when i'm in the area. Regards, Matt.
  16. 4 30 ton artics arriving Monday Ben.
  17. I find that a little disturbing Matt. I can completley empathise with the climbing accident as I reckon most of us have had a branch let go early and dropped the saw to catch it. But the rest of your post ! I'm not having a go but in 16 years of chainsaw use in every enviroment possible I've never even nicked my trousers !
  18. Tripped over on the ground and fell onto a switched off 357 10 stitches in my forearm. I shudder to think what a running would do

    Gloves

There's no easy answer to this one. Mountaineering gloves are warm and you can manipulate krabs and ropes easily but they are ment for cold dry condtions so don't wear well. Seal skinz are good and you can get them with better grip levels now for winter climbing. Personally I use the latex impregnated cotton gloves off ebay. If the weather is cack bin them off when they get wet and open a dry pair as they only work out at about 20p each and when climbing they'll keep your hands warm enough. No good for standing around in though !
  20. Hope the weather improves for Monday !
  21. Great idea Dean prehaps Ed could e-mail a link to the relevant person ?
  22. Give Richard Smith a call he'll come in with a big chipper and clear the lot if you want. Richard AHS 07786 221156
  23. Ed will tell you who made it. Hope it works for you.
  24. Chin up mate, things will improve. I know how you feel.
  25. I'd have tied some sandbags up on the opposite side of the tree to counteract that nasty dangerous bulge. Thus avoiding the need for that tricky climbing stuff and enabling me to invoice extra for materials
