  1. No the Alfa just says you know nothing about cars lmao Similar thing is hill walkers who think their mountaineers and carry loads of carabiners on their rucksacs lol
  2. I did very very well selling crane bags of logs on ebay a couple of years ago, used to go out with the valmet on a saturday with an ifor trailer behind and crane them onto there drives. 60.00 delivered mixed. Twas the best time i ever had for firewood.

    amicide

I was involved in commercial spraying for over 10 years. Mainly on Heathland Project so Timbrel, Roundup Biactive-pro and Asulox where the order of the day. We had to wear full nylon suits and rspirators when spraying Asulox on bracken, even know if i close my eyes i can still taste that awful stuff and smell it For stump treatment in arb I have always painted stumps with neat roundup, that is all that is required. It would be interesting to run a poll and see how many arb contractors hold nptc spraying tickets versus the number that treat stumps. I'm not saying that those who are un-trained and treat stumps aren't competent but you can get in a hell of a lot of trouble if you use chemicals without the correct protocol in place. I use amicide crystals on sycamore stumps etc when i worked for a LA some 9 years ago. I didn't like it because the crystals encouraged scavenging from mammals and birds and also the general public and children often fiddled wondering what the hell it was in a hole in a stump. Obviousley in Mrs Jones's back garden this wouldn't be an issue but we went over to Roundup which is approved for this use on the product label.
  4. Dean I'm not trying to insinuate you don't keep you books in order. Tax and VAT inspections are random, the very fact you can't provide records going back 3 years will be the thing that DOES get you into trouble. I know loads of people that have had random investigations and have been picked up on all manor of silly things.
  5. Try Countryside Jobs Service, Fountains, Tillhill, Lowther Forestry and Regional Electricity Boards. Try and llok for recession proof industries mate it's getting rough out here !
  6. Something smells there, check your insurance proposal form to see what you insured your tools as. Also if it comes to it name and shame the insurer on here and then email the loss adjuster a link. In these times they'll unlikley want to lose business and a 7k payment probably only equates to 2 tree surgeons annual polices.
  7. Try telling the tax man that when you get investigated ! 3 years is the maximum i believe now Dave. It's serious poop time if you can't provide those records Dean.
  8. Wow I like the simplicity of that !!
  9. Just noticed your in my old neck of the woods, whereabouts in Guildford are you based then mate ?
  10. DO NOT get rid of your 3.5 tonner to get a mog, if you have to sell it to finance getting the Mog then don't get a Mog. My biggest mistake was solely relying on one vehicle. If (when) the Mog breaks down you won't be able to continue working. They are fantastically versatile piceces of kit but you need a good one, and good advice when you are looking to buy....good luck.
  11. Your firewood obssesed at the moment lol
  12. By the time they realise it's no good for small installations the whole lot will be to rotten for the power stations as well...heh ho...
  13. They will just ask for a copy of your accounts, it is quite normal on larger contracts and tenders to have to provide VERY detailed financial information whether you are LTD or a sole trader. You should rarely come across these situations in Arb unless your going for LA long term tenders.
  14. Not got rid of your chip yet then Bob lol
  15. That's what we get told all the time when pricing up chipping !
  16. If it's small and taking bigger bites then surely there would be alot of stress on the thing and it would destroy it's self very quickly ! What about all the material that's to small for firewood or needles and leaves etc.....
  17. Nice helpfull post there Jason ! I'd be around 12-1500 but do it by hand with 3 men.
  18. I'd like to think not if you have a good accountant lol, some of the biggest companies in this country are sole traders Peter, Eddie Stobbart, Jenkinson Forestry Products etc. To be taken seriousley you just have to run a professional company not be LTD Just my opinion lol
  19. Dean, just work 24 HRS like the rest of us ! With this 24/7 culture there's nothing you can't do round the clock
  20. ALOT more paperwork ! limited liability is a nonsense as because your a small company you'd have a hard job proving you didn't know your going tits up. A a small company you as a director will have to put up a personal garuntee for almost all borrowing. I'd avoid it, I was told to go LTD by the Prince's Trust some 7 years ago when the first 20k of profit was tax free. All that has changed now. Speak to your accountant is the best advice mate....
  21. Glad it's all gone well for you
  22. Sadly this type of incident is all to common and the perpetrators cowardly scum....
  23. We have just done a job for a property developer through a through a tree surgeon and they've made both of us jump through impossible hoops. Really be careful who you work for at the moment. Don't take on work until you've checked thoroughly that the client can pay. You can threaten legal action till your blue in the face but if the firm goes tits up you won't get a penny. Ed was lucky with the blue machine, they are so big there's little chance of them going under but as most of us work for mid-size developers the threat of non-payment is very real at the moment.
  24. Forget the political bull and just think of our lads and lasses doing their bit all over the world. I was born in a military garrison town and have got friends serving all over the world. Luckily I have lost anyone close. What pees me off more than anything else is when Laura from X Factor gets more news coverage than the gurkha who lost his life recently. You'll never get the younger generations to connect with conflicts past and present as it's so completley alien to anything they know or understand.....sad but true....
