  1. I allways have diesel avliable where the splitter will operate I won't have to plan fetching petrol, plus the fact red diesel is cheaper than petrol at £1.28 a litre.
  2. thanks Chaps, keep the links coming, I have not set a budget yet i am looking at options first!
  3. I have a new trailed log splitter on the drawing board, I want this splitter to be stand alone and not rely on the Land Rover for Hydraulics. Therefore I am after a 13hp diesel engine, Does anyone know of any suppliers of small diesel engines? I have found not alot online at all, except petrol ones and i don't really want petrol! any links/suggestions appreciated Thanks Matt
  4. Tell him to get a Disco 3 Stevie and get busy with the stihl saw and welder! I'd love to see a D3 tipper!
  5. also worth noting the original chocks don't fit much wider tyres than 7.50/16.
  6. Go on>............ please explain that statement. David, once upon a time thoose chocks were a genuine Land Rover accessory I will try and find the book I have at work which is a genuine Land Rover book and see if it has the part no's for the chocks. Matt
  7. charlie, theese are the winch chocks we use at work for soft ground they work fairly well. WINCH CHALLENGE WHEEL CHOCKS ( 1 PAIR ) on eBay (end time 26-Nov-10 14:48:14 GMT)
  8. This is a point i have discussed endlessly at work! there in my opinnion should be no weak link betweeen the winch and what its attached to. all shackles and straps should be rated above the pull of the winch. The overload protection should come in one of the following forms, Electric winch - additional overload control box Hydraulic - should have a relief valve blow before the line is over swl PTO - there will be a slip clutch in the system set to a pre defined torque. I understand you are talking about a felling operation here, but i find it quite concerning people talk about weak links, if theese do fail you'll have recoiling winch rope causing damage to a vehicle or god forbid a human! oh and contry to popular belief even fibre winch ropes recoil!
  9. Pete, Goose fair has been and gone! Loughborough is the last big fair of the year! We went through town at 07.00 this am, the council were in sweeping for the remeberance parade the one way system was back together and the county council were hiabing in the big pillars for the christmas decs! I say every year i will go down and watch the breakdown of it. the only sign the fair has been is that the magic mouse is still on granby street carpark. it requires a mobile crane to dismantle, and they are not allowed to work on dismantle while the rememberance parade is in the town centre. I once had the afternoon off school to watch the set up, chaos it isn't it works like clockwork everyone knows where everything is going and in what order, a lot of the drivers park their trailers inch perfect first time too.
  10. If you were pete so was I! As I have heard this also.
  11. True Dean! but i do find some trailers with indespension unit axles don't tow at all well empty! We have a brand new Ifor tipper at work it is superb makes some jobs so easy.
  12. Sorry David my eyes must be getting worse with old age!
  13. :001_smile:cracking vehicle I really like that winch bumper
  14. Is that the new landy in one of the pics David? if so why haven't we seen any pictures since the long thread regarding its specification prior to purchasing? lol
  15. great pics Pete! was that the 98 floods?
  16. Mick, I can't actually remember the flows and pressure of my set up, I will have a look in the tech details when I get home. My splitter was made from bits of ebay and off cuts of steel out my mates scrap skip. I would think you'd have enough pressure to run a splitter of some description like I say I'll check mine later. One thought whats the size of your hyd tank? how much oil does it hold? do you have an oil cooler in the system? I have no cooler but 45 litres of oil on board splitting will get the oil quite warm if you have a small oil capacity or no cooler. 1500rpm is quite a lot above a 300tdi tick over. as regards a tipper conversion i have binned the the idea as i just don't need it now. as regards tyres i run BF Goodrich and they certainly don't bulge even at a little over maximum GVW.
  17. Its still on Josh, they are just some old pics I found on the pc.
  18. just looking through the pc time for a few more pics me thinks moving a tractor more to come as i find them,
  19. I was the rather nervous 16 yr old that bolted the tipping gear to the P reg transit and all i can remember is Eddie telling me not to scratch it!! I did a few bits with Jim on the Iveco too but not much. I had the glourious job of wire brushing the new body for the bedford when it was upside down in the fab shop so Jim could weld it up, we then lifted it out and into the yard to get the Transit inside. I would love to see the Bedford finnished and working.
  20. Yes! two of my mates used to work for Harley after I left Eddies, infact one of them was another JL George employ that swapped spanners for sawdust! Didn't Harley also have your old high sided transit? the Landy I still see most weeks.
  21. I used to drool from a distance over that 130 everytime you bought it up to Eddies, Pete, you have some great pics, do you have any of your mog or of Ed's big International working when you had a chipper on it?
  22. We have the H14 on TD5's at work I may be able to get some pics of the drive shaft route (if i can find some where half clean) Also I was told by PG winches when they were still trading it was very simple to convert to HYD power. You can mount a motor where the steering box would be on an LHD vehicle then run a short shaft to the winch. Not a huge job to remove from a vehicle either well worth the effort
  23. size of machine is down to your access and space avliable on site? no point having a 13 tonner if you ain't got room to swing a cat! if you can work it comfortably in the space you have go for a 13 tonner. if the budget is there go for a grab and rotator it'll make life much much easier,
