  1. I am seriously considering purchasing one of these Log Splitter Hydraulic 14Ton Freestanding / Mounted | eBay does anyone have one or any feed back on using one? its for heavy hobby use rather than everyday commercial use. cheers Matt
  2. I would get quotes for C1 7.5tonner and Cat C rigid as a base our local driving school there is little differance in cost. Then see which you can afford to do after that perhaps just do C1 + E but at the end of the day it depends who you want to work for. the LA's and bigger companys around here seem to be running bigger n bigger rigs.
  3. Nice Landy Al! My rims are grey Modulars they were purchased from Silverline Tyres who advertise in the mags and are rated for the 130's gross weight.
  4. I had a very nasty accident in my old 90 when working in Shropshire i shall not go into details but the 90 ended up in a ditch upside down 1.5 miles from the nearest bit of tarmac, I rang NFU claims line straight away and the service was truly profesional they arranged all recovery overnight storage and recovery to home address the next day. in the initial few moments after informing the NFU the recovery firm started to hassle me with talk of 4x4 hiabs and who was paying, I rang the young lady at the NFU who politely but firmly told the recovery agent they were working for her and not me so don't hassle me. 3 days later I had a phone call to meet the assesor at the local garage to look at the 90 we had some friendly banter and in the end agreed a very fair figure for the vehicle he even allowed me to take my set of mud terrains off and replace with standard wheels provided i had it done before the low loader turned up. 9 days after the initial accident i had a cheque for the payout a totally profesional service I am sure i could insure the 130 elsewhere but i am a great believer in you get what u pay for!
  5. Yep it was on the Loughborough Land Rover Club stand.
  6. I am afraid to say that is now a rapidly changing situation! I know an awful lot of people who have been pulled and told to geta tacho fitted. if you watch any of the tv shows on motorway police, read a commercial vehicle magazine they'll be someone being done for commercial towing without a tacho, A local firm round here was recently pulled and the VOSA guy made a point of telling the driver the vehicle is now flagged and next time they pull it towing it must have a tacho fitted. The legislation has now been around 14 years and times are chaanging.
  7. Pete, Can't Ed sort you out with enough Jiffex or what ever the fuch oil alternative is? Jiffex was what it was when he delt in century oils.
  8. Sorry Steve should have been more specific, if I was using aspen and buying a combi can, I'd buy a new standard combi can over this aspen one. I see there is minimal chance of contamination if your emptying into a combi can bought specifically for Aspen.
  9. Well here is my 2pence worth, we work in remote locations and to be honest if my gaffer gave me that combi can I wouldn't be to impressed! I am sorry but the first aid kit doesn't look that big, I carry two blood stoppers in my pocket as do other lads and we have a pelicase firstaid kit at the RF point. It may mean carrying two items in to the RF point but i'd sooner do that and have comprehensive FA kit than a little one on a combi can, Other points there doesn't seem to be an anti spill spout for the oil? and I am not sure from the pictures how the aspen can fixes to the handle arrangement. I get the overall impression that some one is trying to reinvent the wheel with this. I am sorry but whats wrong with putting aspen in a standard combi can? I have allways used sthil cans with antispill spouts on both halves.
  10. Thank you. I really hope it is achieved. It is a great shame that people do have to raise money for H4H but thats for another thread. There are vehicles coming down from the scottish highlands but I think your right about traveling from NZ! Pics will be added after the event.
  11. Steve I hope you don't mind me posting this, please delete if its not acceptable to the forum. (I just thought there were a lot of landy owners about here) On Easter Sunday there is an event happening at the Motor Heritage Center at Gaydon Warwickshie, its an attempt to break the Guiness world record for the longest convoy of Land Rovers, any model as long as it carries the green oval badge is fine, Now before you all call us a load of sad old so n so's with nowt better to do this whole weekend is in aid of Help for Heros, Not only are we aiming to beat the guiness world record but we also want to raise a shed load of money for the injured lads n lassies that have fought for our country. So please if your doing nowt that weekend jump in yours or even your gaffers landy and come and join the fun either for the Sunday or for the weekend and help us raise lots of money. I have linked the website of the event below, I am not part of the organising committee I am just paying my dues to enter the convoy and give up my weekend to help marshal the event, but thought I'd try and spread the word. Convoy for Heroes Matt
  12. would that be Dan and his 3way tipper off LR addict forum?
  13. was actually on about the top one I had a quote from BH for one and it was over £400 + vat +carriage just for the bumper!
  14. most definately an ex leccy board winch bumper supplied by Bushey Hall Winches.
  15. Pete have you asked Eddie for valve spring compressors? I have used some up there before?
  16. Could try Ross farm machinery at Ross on wye! I had to go there once to collect one of my trailers as they were the only dealer with one. Oh you can also ring IWT and they will tell you what dealers have the trailer you want in stock! thats how I found mine at Ross!
  17. when i bought one a couple of years ago i ordered the trailer and mesh sides seperately, got the trailer within a week mesh sides took 6 weeks as they are special order. If i'd ordered as one item i would have had to wait for the lot for 6 weeks.
  18. I am afraid not if you are paying an employee to do something in a manner you encourage that is well known to be against hSE good practice and there is a serious accident, An Employer would be in very serious trouble and the excuse the operator knew what he was doing wouldn't wash!
  19. if you ask me you are doing the equivalent of comparing a tractor to a lawn mower!! Yes a defender is cold, drafty, thirsty, requires TLC and not the most comfortable machine in the world but its a tool to do a job and that job is to tow all day long be driven through horrible muck and be washed out at the end of the day! The other two you describe are a jack of all trades and a master of none. Only you can decide what your using it for. But a defender can tow 3500kg and can if required have a Tachograph fitted easily.
  20. Just about to go out so not got time to do pics but look for Vigiled or securiled light units from Delta Design. Google Padoink strange name but they were the cheapest online supplier
  21. from what I remember from the Agri regs only the 1st trailer can be loaded, second has to be empty.
  22. I'd be interested John please post the results, Even working for a large government agency we are still guesstimating trigger time!
  23. thanks all for your input, I am awaiting a few emails from suppliers but a few of you here should have pm's!
  24. No price comparisons yet on a 13hp as everywhere is shut for the holidays but, on an 8hp engine there is less than 100 quid between the petrol and diesel versions.
  25. 13hp was recommended by the specs of the pump i have in mind from the local hydraulic place. there ain't that many splitters running such a big engine on the road towable splitters on the net most are between 6-10hp. I have been looking at dumpers/digger engines so who knows i may go down that route i am just trying to get the ideas at the moment.
