  1. The most comfortable boots I have ever had with spikes are my new klima air zermatts. I used to find my haix useless with spikes too.
  2. Seems to work ok for me. 5th result in a couple of months. Plus the google maps and the sponsored link result. Google Lots of people have said the same about flash based sites though, I might consider having it rebuilt in html sometime.
  3. I use a company called Hostso. It cost £8.28 a year. Support from the designer for the first year is inclusive, within reasonable limits.
  4. Good move. I only had a 2.5" diameter tip today, but I dont recommend it tbh....
  5. Bit brittle and snappy on the twigs, I did a reduction on one today and you do need to be a bit careful out on the tips. Dismantle should be ok though, the timber seems strong enough.
  6. Get it built by a pro. Mine cost £250, much better than wasting loads of my time when I could be out earning money imo.
  7. Isnt that called cloud pruning?
  8. It is peculiar how some local authorities have completely different interpretations of the law and how to implement it. Bit like tree officers I suppose.... I looked into the law throughly when I lived in Manchester, as I had a clean burn but not approved stove burning seasoned wood in a smoke control area. A neighbour complained about the smell of woodsmoke. Even though the stove was as good as an approved model I had to stop burning wood or risk prosecution.
  9. What area does you brother live in?
  10. Nope. From the official government website "Under the Clean Air Act local authorities may declare the whole or part of the district of the authority to be a smoke control area. It is an offence to emit smoke from a chimney of a building, from a furnace or from any fixed boiler if located in a designated smoke control area. It is also an offence to acquire an “unauthorised fuel” for use within a smoke control area unless it is used in an “exempt” appliance (“exempted” from the controls which generally apply in the smoke control area). The current maximum level of fine is £1,000 for each offence." No difference between light and dark smoke in smoke control areas. You can be prosecuted for causing dark smoke from a chimney in a non smoke control area though.
  11. If no-one complains then you shouldnt get any bother. If someone does complain then the council will ask you to stop burning wood. In my experience prosecution is unlikely at this stage. Wood is not a smokeless fuel as defined under smoke control regs. You can burn wood in an approved clean burn stove, or you can burn an approved smokeless fuel in any stove.
  12. Let me guess, a full rack of redirects?
  13. No, he wants a groundsperson with a chipper ticket......
  14. I have now sold all the timber as a job lot to a local carver. Thanks for all your interest.
  15. You cant. In addition, every part of the yew tree is toxic, including the leaves (needles) which are shed all year round. Your options are: 1. Move House 2. Fell the tree 3. Fence the tree off to prevent access by children. Dont worry about the cats, they have more sense than to try to eat yew berries.
  16. You'll be lucky. I was quoted £55 plus vat per tonne delivered in for mixed hardwood thinnings. I dont see how you could possibly make any money on that.
  17. Haha hahahahahahahaha haha (sorry)

Yes, did you get stuck in the traffic through our traffic lights?

3 loads in the end. Probably could have squeezed it all on 2, but those large diameter pieces were just too chunky to get much on.

Some more pics off my phone, in no particular order.
  22. More.
  23. Heres some pics of the bigger pieces.
  24. Financially, no its not worth it. To make it worthwhile, you will need to get insurance to work as a loler inspector, and then to make that worthwhile you will need to spend hours sorting through other peoples kit, which will often arrive in a fertiliser sack smelling of diesel, with no markings or records. They will then be very disappointed when you fail a load of kit and never use you again. However, I would still do it just for the personal satisfaction and amount of knowledge you will gain by doing the course. Plus you can inspect your own kit should you feel so inclined.
  25. Absolutely, I'll get some pictures tomorrow and put them up here so you can see whats available.
