  1. Nice work, and I agree, its the way forward.
  2. Alfie is jealous now, I'll have to splice him up something in Tachyon!
  3. Phew, i thought you were serious!
  4. The 2 ring kind is different to the ropeguide. With the 2 ring version, you simply adjust it down to the required length, then run the climbing line through both rings as normal. With the ropeguide the pulley goes through the ring, then the rope runs on just the pulley.
  5. I used a similar set up for a bit, only with a 9mm dyneema sling instead of the prussic. Works, but not ideal.
  6. I take it you don't have a family?
  7. Dogs are great for the opportunist thief. Someone really serious will get around a dog. Sorry to hear about your kit though, was it the two longest items in the container and therefore not in a lock box?
  8. I used to work for a Local Authority.
  9. You could always add root pruning to your list of services. Why would a tree root want to grow under the foundations of a house anyway? Can't be much water under there.
  10. Do you start the cuts with a smaller saw? On the rare occasions I have an 88 up a tree, I start all the cuts with a 44, then swap it for the 88 and finish them. I would be very tempted to cut massive blocks and push them off with the block driver, and leave them on the ground until I came down with the big saw. Anything to reduce the amount of time with it in the tree really.
  11. Ouch indeed to the 88. Out of interest, how thick did you go with the big rings with the block driver?

    Ident please

Hamamelis mollis, Witch Hazel. And yes, it should be flowering now.
  13. Your quals are still valid. The only thing that has changed really is the requirement to do refresher training. Since you have been off the tools for a while it may be worth updating your nptcs. You could do medium fell, CS32, which includes takedown of hung up trees, and aerial rescue CS38, and that would give you pretty much a full set. You should also get a first aid ticket. Good luck.

    Descenders

Expensive and bulky, as well as annoying to use. Any tips? Get a thinner rope and your choices are much wider.
  15. If its in big lumps sell it on to a carver.
  16. Objections from members of the public willl probably be the biggest hurdle. Try to get the ad in at a time when everyone is busy, ie christmas or school holidays. Also, get the application form ready, then put the ad in before you send anything off, that way if you get loads of objections you can have a rethink before paying the application fees.
  17. I think he was referring to the barmaid mate!
  18. I thought for short term hire, ie week or less, you didnt need an O licence. To answer your first question, you would need to apply for a normal licence, inc operating centre and inspection arrangements, even though you dont run a vehicle yourself. Patrick, it depends how big your drive is. If you have a big detached house with lots of offroad parking and no close neighbours, then you will probably get it. If you have a suburban semi and the drive is just big enough to squeeze the truck onto, probably not. The only way to find out is to apply.
  19. Patrick, you specify where you want to have your inspections done, so long as the person you choose is qualified to do them it doesnt matter whether its the main agent or a backstreet garage.
  20. I got it when I worked for Stockport Council, they offered it to me on the provisio that I went on call for highway gritting. Once I had C, I still needed C+E to tow the chipper with the 7.5 tonner, so they paid for that too. SAS sounds cooler though, I'll go with that.
  21. Yes, I had quotes from both of them, I went with arbinsure.
  22. No, I have a man who does them. You can do your own, but you have to be able to show that you are competent and have the facilities.
  23. Depends how the mog is registered. Ag registered, no o licence. If its registered as a truck, then you do need an o licence.
  24. Yes, undoubtably. There are a few green waste sites around that area, but they all charge.
